Personalization via collaboration in web retrieval systems: a context based approach
World Wide Web is a source of information, and searches on the Web can be analyzed to detect patterns in Web users' search behaviors and information needs to effectively handle the users' subsequent needs. The rationale is that the information need of a user at a particular time point occurs in a particular context, and queries are derived from that need. In this paper, we discuss an extension of our personalization approach that was originally developed for a traditional bibliographic retrieval system but has been adapted and extended with a collaborative model for the Web retrieval environment. We start with a brief introduction of our personalization approach in a traditional information retrieval system. Then, based on the differences in the nature of documents, users and search tasks between traditional and Web retrieval environments, we describe our extensions of integrating collaboration in personalization in the Web retrieval environment. The architecture for the extension integrates machine learning techniques for the purpose of better modeling users' search tasks. Finally, a user-oriented evaluation of Web-based adaptive retrieval systems is presented as an important aspect of the overall strategy for personalization
Web Site Recommendation Modelling Assisted by Ontologies Networks
Web site recommendation systems help to get high quality information. The modeling of recommendation system involves the combination of many features:metrics of quality, quality criteria, recommendation criteria, user profile, specific domain, among others. At the moment of the specification of a recommendation system it must be guaranteed a right interrelation of all of this features. In this paper we propose a ontology network based process for web site recommendation modeling. This ontology network conceptualizes the different domains (web site domain, quality assurance domain, user context domain, recommendation criteria domain, specific domain) in a set of interrelated ontologies. Basically, this work introduces the semantic relationships that were used to construct this ontology network. Moreover, it shows the usefulness of this ontology network for the detection of possible inconsistencies when specifying recommendation criteria. Context-based user grouping for multi-casting in heterogeneous radio networks
Along with the rise of sophisticated smartphones and smart spaces, the
availability of both static and dynamic context information has steadily been
increasing in recent years. Due to the popularity of social networks, these
data are complemented by profile information about individual users. Making
use of this information by classifying users in wireless networks enables
targeted content and advertisement delivery as well as optimizing network
resources, in particular bandwidth utilization, by facilitating group-based
multi-casting. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a
web service for advanced user classification based on user, network, and
environmental context information. The service employs simple and advanced
clustering algorithms for forming classes of users. Available service
functionalities include group formation, context-aware adaptation, and
deletion as well as the exposure of group characteristics. Moreover, the
results of a performance evaluation, where the service has been integrated in
a simulator modeling user behavior in heterogeneous wireless systems, are
presented
Developing ontologies for representing data about key performance indicators
Multiple indicators are of interest in smart cities at different scales and for different stakeholders. In open environments, such as The Web, or when indicator information has to be interchanged across systems, contextual information (e.g., unit of measurement, measurement method) should be transmitted together with the data and the lack of such information might cause undesirable effects. Describing the data by means of ontologies increases interoperability among datasets and applications. However, methodological guidance is crucial during ontology development in order to transform the art of modeling in an engineering activity. In the current paper, we present a methodological approach for modelling data about Key Performance Indicators and their context with an application example of such guidelines
Designing websites with eXtensible web (xWeb) methodology
Today, eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is fast emerging as the dominant standard for storing, describing, representing and interchanging data among various enterprises systems and databases in the context of complex web enterprises information systems (EIS). Conversely, for web EIS (such as e-commerce and portals) to be successful, it is important to apply a high level, model driven solutions and meta-data vocabularies to design and implementation techniques that are capable of handling heterogonous schemas and documents. For this, we need a methodology that provides a higher level of abstraction of the domain in question with rigorously defined standards that are to be more widely understood by all stakeholders of the system. To-date, UML has proven itself as the language of choice for modeling EIS using OO techniques. With the introduction of XML Schema, which provides rich facilities for constraining and defining enterprise XML content, the combination of UML and XML technologies provide a good platform (and the flexibility) for modeling, designing and representing complex enterprise contents for building successful EIS. In this paper, we show how a layered view model coupled with a proven user interface analysis framework (WUiAM) is utilized in providing architectural construct and abstract website model (called eXtensible Web, xWeb), to model, design and implement simple, user-centred, collaborative websites at varying levels of abstraction. The uniqueness xWeb is that the model data (web user interface definitions, website data descriptions and constraints) and the web content are captured and represented at the conceptual level using views (one model) and can be deployed (multiple platform specific models) using one or more implementation models
Enriching Linked Data with Semantics from Domain-Specific Diagrammatic Models
One key driver of the Linked Data paradigm is the ability to lift data graphs from legacy systems by employing various adapters and RDFizers (e.g., D2RQ for relational databases, XLWrap for spreadsheets). Such approaches aim towards removing boundaries of enterprise data silos by opening them to cross-organizational linking within a “Web of Data”. An insufficiently tapped source of machine-readable semantics is the underlying graph nature of diagrammatic conceptual models – a kind of information that is richer compared to what is typically lifted from table schemata, especially when a domain-specific modeling language is employed. The paper advocates an approach to Linked Data enrichment based on a diagrammatic model RDFizer originally developed in the context of the ComVantage FP7 research project. A minimal but illustrative example is provided from which arguments will be generalized, leading to a proposed vision of “conceptual model”-aware information systems
Multiple viewpoint modelling framework enabling integrated product-process design
Nowadays, companies have to cope with numerous constraints at organisational and technical levels in order to improve their competitiveness edges such as productivity, efficiency, and flexibility. Integrated product-process design becomes more and more complex to manage because of increasingly customized products related to various stakeholders and concerns geographically distributed. It is still represents a huge challenge, especially in the early phases of product development process. In such a context, the management of information within integrated product-process design highlights needs in a consistent engineering model that enables product lifecycle management (PLM) integration. The paper presents a novel multiple viewpoint framework called multiple viewpoint assembly oriented, considering product design and assembly process domains in the broader context of concurrent engineering and PLM. The proposed framework describes the consistency, the propagation of information change, and mechanisms of views generation among the product lifecycle stages in order to support assembly oriented design philosophy. A cloud-based integration platform for enterprise application integration: a model-driven engineering approach
This article addresses major information systems integration problems, approaches, technologies, and tools within the context of Model-Driven Software Engineering. The Guaraná integration platform is introduced as an innovative platform amongst state-of-the-art technologies available for enterprises to design and implement integration solutions. In this article, we present its domain-specific modeling language and its industrial cloud-based web development platform, which supports the design and implementation of integration solutions. Adapting Content Delivery to Limited Resources and Inferred User Interest
This paper discusses adaptation policies for information systems
that are subject to dynamic and stochastic contexts such as mobile
access to multimedia web sites. In our approach, adaptation agents
apply sequential decisional policies under uncertainty. We focus on
the modeling of such decisional processes depending on whether the
context is fully or partially observable. Our case study is a movie
browsing service in a mobile environment that we model by using
Markov decision processes (MDPs) and partially observable MDP
(POMDP). We derive adaptation policies for this service, that take
into account the limited resources such as the network bandwidth. We
further refine these policies according to the partially observable
users' interest level estimated from implicit feedback. Our
theoretical models are validated through numerous simulations
Web Services-Enhanced Agile Modeling and Integrating Business Processes
In a global business context with continuous changes, the enterprises have to
enhance their operational efficiency, to react more quickly, to ensure the
flexibility of their business processes, and to build new collaboration
pathways with external partners. To achieve this goal, they must use e-business
methods, mechanisms and techniques while capitalizing on the potential of new
information and communication technologies. In this context, we propose a
standards, model and Web services-based approach for modeling and integrating
agile enterprise business processes. The purpose is to benefit from Web
services characteristics to enhance the processes design and realize their
dynamic integration. The choice of focusing on Web services is essentially
justified by their broad adoption by enterprises as well as their capability to
warranty interoperability between both intra and inter-enterprises systems.
Thereby, we propose in this chapter a metamodel for describing business
processes, and discuss their dynamic integration by addressing the Web services
discovery issue. On the one hand, the proposed metamodel is in line with the
W3C Web services standards, namely, WSDL, SAWSDL and WS-Policy. It considers
the use of BPMN standard to describe the behavioral aspect of business
processes and completes their design using UML diagrams describing their
functional, non-functional and semantic aspects. On other hand, our approach
for integrating processes is in line with BPEL standard recommended to
orchestrate Web services. To realize executable business processes, this
approach recommends the use of semantic matching and selection mechanisms in
