A New Analysis Method for Simulations Using Node Categorizations

Most research concerning the influence of network structure on phenomena taking place on the network focus on relationships between global statistics of the network structure and characteristic properties of those phenomena, even though local structure has a significant effect on the dynamics of some phenomena. In the present paper, we propose a new analysis method for phenomena on networks based on a categorization of nodes. First, local statistics such as the average path length and the clustering coefficient for a node are calculated and assigned to the respective node. Then, the nodes are categorized using the self-organizing map (SOM) algorithm. Characteristic properties of the phenomena of interest are visualized for each category of nodes. The validity of our method is demonstrated using the results of two simulation models. The proposed method is useful as a research tool to understand the behavior of networks, in particular, for the large-scale networks that existing visualization techniques cannot work well.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures. Game analytics - maximizing the value of player data

During the years of the Information Age, technological advances in the computers, satellites, data transfer, optics, and digital storage has led to the collection of an immense mass of data on everything from business to astronomy, counting on the power of digital computing to sort through the amalgam of information and generate meaning from the data. Initially, in the 1970s and 1980s of the previous century, data were stored on disparate structures and very rapidly became overwhelming. The initial chaos led to the creation of structured databases and database management systems to assist with the management of large corpuses of data, and notably, the effective and efficient retrieval of information from databases. The rise of the database management system increased the already rapid pace of information gathering.peer-reviewe

A survey of machine learning techniques applied to self organizing cellular networks

In this paper, a survey of the literature of the past fifteen years involving Machine Learning (ML) algorithms applied to self organizing cellular networks is performed. In order for future networks to overcome the current limitations and address the issues of current cellular systems, it is clear that more intelligence needs to be deployed, so that a fully autonomous and flexible network can be enabled. This paper focuses on the learning perspective of Self Organizing Networks (SON) solutions and provides, not only an overview of the most common ML techniques encountered in cellular networks, but also manages to classify each paper in terms of its learning solution, while also giving some examples. The authors also classify each paper in terms of its self-organizing use-case and discuss how each proposed solution performed. In addition, a comparison between the most commonly found ML algorithms in terms of certain SON metrics is performed and general guidelines on when to choose each ML algorithm for each SON function are proposed. Lastly, this work also provides future research directions and new paradigms that the use of more robust and intelligent algorithms, together with data gathered by operators, can bring to the cellular networks domain and fully enable the concept of SON in the near future

Gaming for Healthcare: A Bibliometric Analysis in Business and Management

The purpose of this paper is to scrutinize and classify the literature linking gaming for healthcare and management phenomena. An objective bibliometric analysis is conducted, supported by subjective assessments based on studies focused on the linking of gaming for healthcare and management fields. From the analysis and its evaluation, three clusters depicting literature linking gaming for healthcare and management phenomena are showed: management and governance public/private healthcare system; gaming and knowledge/strategic management; management health/medical insurance system using game theory. Moreover, the study shows the limits of existing literature on this topic and proposes future research topics. This is one of the first attempts to comprehend the research stream which, over time, has paved the way to the intersection between gaming for healthcare and management fields

An adaptive meta-search engine considering the user’s field of interest

AbstractExisting meta-search engines return web search results based on the page relevancy to the query, their popularity and content. It is necessary to provide a meta-search engine capable of ranking results considering the user’s field of interest. Social networks can be useful to find the users’ tendencies, favorites, skills, and interests. In this paper we propose MSE, a meta-search engine for document retrieval utilizing social information of the user. In this approach, each user is assumed to have a profile containing his fields of interest. MSE extracts main phrases from the title and short description of receiving results from underlying search engines. Then it clusters the main phrases by a Self-Organizing Map neural network. Generated clusters are then ranked on the basis of the user’s field of interest. We have compared the proposed MSE against two other meta-search engines. The experimental results show the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed method

Which learning approaches, pedagogical methods and teaching tools can educators at higher education institutions use to teach sustainable entrepreneurship? Sustainable entrepreneurship education combines those aspects from entrepreneurship and sustainability education to teach students the skills and competences needed to contribute to a sustainable society by acting entrepreneurially. Although there is consensus that these skills and competences are crucial to have, how they are taught is still debated. Using a review of the literature and interviews with practitioners and educators, this report offers an overview and discussion of 13 learning approaches, 15 pedagogical methods and 24 teaching tools for sustainable entrepreneurship education. The identified methods and tools are further divided into categories regarding their usage in business and higher education, making this report an inspirational hands-on toolkit for educators
