Building and Adaptive Learning Mechanism to Assist eLearning Students

    Get PDF
Intelligent Tutoring System has been developed to provide an individualized learning environment in order to prompt learning interests and learning efficiency for online education. In this paper, based on the concept of intelligent tutoring system and educational product function, we establish a distance learning environment where students receive learning contents that best suit their needs. In this environment, we adopt clustering theory by utilizing SOM algorithm in the system and analyze the relationship between students’ personal background, interests and learning result. The workload of instructors is relieved and student’s learning ability and interests are considered in providing adequate learning contents which lead to more effective teaching effect and learning result. The proposed system is applied to the construction of an online 3D virtual museum

FORGE: An eLearning Framework for Remote Laboratory Experimentation on FIRE Testbed Infrastructure

The Forging Online Education through FIRE (FORGE) initiative provides educators and learners in higher education with access to world-class FIRE testbed infrastructure. FORGE supports experimentally driven research in an eLearning environment by complementing traditional classroom and online courses with interactive remote laboratory experiments. The project has achieved its objectives by defining and implementing a framework called FORGEBox. This framework offers the methodology, environment, tools and resources to support the creation of HTML-based online educational material capable accessing virtualized and physical FIRE testbed infrastruc- ture easily. FORGEBox also captures valuable quantitative and qualitative learning analytic information using questionnaires and Learning Analytics that can help optimise and support student learning. To date, FORGE has produced courses covering a wide range of networking and communication domains. These are freely available from FORGEBox.eu and have resulted in over 24,000 experiments undertaken by more than 1,800 students across 10 countries worldwide. This work has shown that the use of remote high- performance testbed facilities for hands-on remote experimentation can have a valuable impact on the learning experience for both educators and learners. Additionally, certain challenges in developing FIRE-based courseware have been identified, which has led to a set of recommendations in order to support the use of FIRE facilities for teaching and learning purposes

Adaptive intelligent personalised learning (AIPL) environment

As individuals the ideal learning scenario would be a learning environment tailored just for how we like to learn, personalised to our requirements. This has previously been almost inconceivable given the complexities of learning, the constraints within the environments in which we teach, and the need for global repositories of knowledge to facilitate this process. Whilst it is still not necessarily achievable in its full sense this research project represents a path towards this ideal. In this thesis, findings from research into the development of a model (the Adaptive Intelligent Personalised Learning (AIPL)), the creation of a prototype implementation of a system designed around this model (the AIPL environment) and the construction of a suite of intelligent algorithms (Personalised Adaptive Filtering System (PAFS)) for personalised learning are presented and evaluated. A mixed methods approach is used in the evaluation of the AIPL environment. The AIPL model is built on the premise of an ideal system being one which does not just consider the individual but also considers groupings of likeminded individuals and their power to influence learner choice. The results show that: (1) There is a positive correlation for using group-learning-paradigms. (2) Using personalisation as a learning aid can help to facilitate individual learning and encourage learning on-line. (3) Using learning styles as a way of identifying and categorising the individuals can improve their on-line learning experience. (4) Using Adaptive Information Retrieval techniques linked to group-learning-paradigms can reduce and improve the problem of mis-matching. A number of approaches for further work to extend and expand upon the work presented are highlighted at the end of the Thesis

In the evolving landscape of global education, Artificial Intelligence's (AI) integration into Learning Management Systems (LMS) promises a transformative shift. This paper presents Mozambique's journey in this domain, comparing it with global advancements. While the Mozambican higher education sector stands at the cusp of a digital revolution, its engagement with AI in LMS remains foundational. This is juxtaposed against the global trend where AI tools, such as ChatGPT, are rapidly becoming standard in many educational platforms, enhancing personalization, efficiency, and data-driven insights. The benefits of AI integration, such as tailored learning experiences and administrative automation, are counterbalanced by challenges, including data privacy concerns and over-reliance on technology. Drawing from real-world case studies, the paper highlights pioneering endeavours that showcase AI's potential in reshaping educational paradigms. As Mozambique navigates its unique challenges, insights from global best practices offer a roadmap for harnessing the transformative potential of AI in LMS, aiming to elevate its higher education sector to new heights.

ABSTRACT: In MOOCs, learning analytics have to be addressed to the various types of learners that participate. This deliverable describes indicators that enable both teachers and learner to monitor the progress and performance as well as identify whether there are learners at risk of dropping out. How these indicators should be computed and displayed to end users by means of dashboards is also explained. Furthermore a proposal based on xAPI statements for storing relevant data and events is provided

Abstract. Intelligent Tutoring System Builder (ITSB) is an authoring tool designed and developed to aid teachers in constructing intelligent tutoring systems in a multidisciplinary fields. The teacher is needed to create a set of pedagogical fundamentals, which, in line, are inured to automatically build up a broad tutor framework and construct an intelligent tutoring system. In this paper an explanation of the theory and the architecture of the tool is outlined. A presentation of several system components, the requirements of the different components, integration of these components in ITSB tool are shown. Furthermore, implanting of requirements, cognitive principle, and common design fundamentals in the tool to ease the use of teachers. A variety of design matters, an example of building an intelligent tutoring system for teaching Java language using ITSB tool and an evaluation are presented
