    This study analyzes and designs the Swarm intelligence (SI) that Self-organizing migrating algorithm (SOMA) represents to solve industrial practice as well as academic optimization problems, and applies them to swarm robotics. Specifically, the characteristics of SOMA are clarified, shaping the basis for the analysis of SOMA's strengths and weaknesses for the release of SOMA T3A, SOMA Pareto, and iSOMA, with outstanding performance, confirmed by well-known test suites from IEEE CEC 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. Besides, the dynamic path planning problem for swarm robotics is handled by the proposed algorithms considered as a prime instance. The computational and simulation results on Matlab have proven the performance of the novel algorithms as well as the correctness of the obstacle avoidance method for mobile robots and drones. Furthermore, two out of the three proposed versions achieved the tie for 3rd (the same ranking with HyDE-DF) and 5th place in the 100-Digit Challenge at CEC 2019, GECCO 2019, and SEMCCO 2019 competition, something that any other version of SOMA has yet to do. They show promising possibilities that SOMA and SI algorithms offer.Tato práce se zabývá analýzou a vylepšením hejnové inteligence, kterou představuje samoorganizující se migrační algoritmus s možností využití v průmyslové praxi a se zaměřením na hejnovou robotiku. Je analyzován algoritmus SOMA, identifikovány silné a slabé stránky a navrženy nové verze SOMA jako SOMA T3A, SOMA Pareto, iSOMA s vynikajícím výkonem, potvrzeným známými testovacími sadami IEEE CEC 2013, 2015, 2017 a 2019. Tyto verze jsou pak aplikovány na problém s dynamickým plánováním dráhy pro hejnovou robotiku. Výsledky výpočtů a simulace v Matlabu prokázaly výkonnost nových algoritmů a správnost metody umožňující vyhýbání se překážkám u mobilních robotů a dronů. Kromě toho dvě ze tří navržených verzí dosáhly na 3. a 5. místo v soutěži 100-Digit Challenge na CEC 2019, GECCO 2019 a SEMCCO 2019, což je potvrzení navržených inovací.     On Challenging Techniques for Constrained Global Optimization

    This chapter aims to address the challenging and demanding issue of solving a continuous nonlinear constrained global optimization problem. We propose four stochastic methods that rely on a population of points to diversify the search for a global solution: genetic algorithm, differential evolution, artificial fish swarm algorithm and electromagnetism-like mechanism. The performance of different variants of these algorithms is analyzed using a benchmark set of problems. Three different strategies to handle the equality and inequality constraints of the problem are addressed. An augmented Lagrangian-based technique, the tournament selection based on feasibility and dominance rules, and a strategy based on ranking objective and constraint violation are presented and tested. Numerical experiments are reported showing the effectiveness of our suggestions.     A Comprehensive Survey on Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm and Its Applications

    Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a heuristic global optimization method, proposed originally by Kennedy and Eberhart in 1995. It is now one of the most commonly used optimization techniques. This survey presented a comprehensive investigation of PSO. On one hand, we provided advances with PSO, including its modifications (including quantum-behaved PSO, bare-bones PSO, chaotic PSO, and fuzzy PSO), population topology (as fully connected, von Neumann, ring, star, random, etc.), hybridization (with genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, Tabu search, artificial immune system, ant colony algorithm, artificial bee colony, differential evolution, harmonic search, and biogeography-based optimization), extensions (to multiobjective, constrained, discrete, and binary optimization), theoretical analysis (parameter selection and tuning, and convergence analysis), and parallel implementation (in multicore, multiprocessor, GPU, and cloud computing forms). On the other hand, we offered a survey on applications of PSO to the following eight fields: electrical and electronic engineering, automation control systems, communication theory, operations research, mechanical engineering, fuel and energy, medicine, chemistry, and biology. It is hoped that this survey would be beneficial for the researchers studying PSO algorithms

    Conformance Checking and Simulation-based Evolutionary Optimization for Deployment and Reconfiguration of Software in the Cloud

    Many SaaS providers nowadays want to leverage the cloud's capabilities also for their existing applications, for example, to enable sound scalability and cost-effectiveness. This thesis provides the approach CloudMIG that supports SaaS providers to migrate those applications to IaaS and PaaS-based cloud environments. CloudMIG consists of a step-by-step process and focuses on two core components. (1) Restrictions imposed by specific cloud environments (so-called cloud environment constraints (CECs)), such as a limited file system access or forbidden method calls, can be validated by an automatic conformance checking approach. (2) A cloud deployment option (CDO) determines which cloud environment, cloud resource types, deployment architecture, and runtime reconfiguration rules for exploiting a cloud's elasticity should be used. The implied performance and costs can differ in orders of magnitude. CDOs can be automatically optimized with the help of our simulation-based genetic algorithm CDOXplorer. Extensive lab experiments and an experiment in an industrial context show CloudMIG's applicability and the excellent performance of its two core components

    EDMON - Electronic Disease Surveillance and Monitoring Network: A Personalized Health Model-based Digital Infectious Disease Detection Mechanism using Self-Recorded Data from People with Type 1 Diabetes

    Through time, we as a society have been tested with infectious disease outbreaks of different magnitude, which often pose major public health challenges. To mitigate the challenges, research endeavors have been focused on early detection mechanisms through identifying potential data sources, mode of data collection and transmission, case and outbreak detection methods. Driven by the ubiquitous nature of smartphones and wearables, the current endeavor is targeted towards individualizing the surveillance effort through a personalized health model, where the case detection is realized by exploiting self-collected physiological data from wearables and smartphones. This dissertation aims to demonstrate the concept of a personalized health model as a case detector for outbreak detection by utilizing self-recorded data from people with type 1 diabetes. The results have shown that infection onset triggers substantial deviations, i.e. prolonged hyperglycemia regardless of higher insulin injections and fewer carbohydrate consumptions. Per the findings, key parameters such as blood glucose level, insulin, carbohydrate, and insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio are found to carry high discriminative power. A personalized health model devised based on a one-class classifier and unsupervised method using selected parameters achieved promising detection performance. Experimental results show the superior performance of the one-class classifier and, models such as one-class support vector machine, k-nearest neighbor and, k-means achieved better performance. Further, the result also revealed the effect of input parameters, data granularity, and sample sizes on model performances. The presented results have practical significance for understanding the effect of infection episodes amongst people with type 1 diabetes, and the potential of a personalized health model in outbreak detection settings. The added benefit of the personalized health model concept introduced in this dissertation lies in its usefulness beyond the surveillance purpose, i.e. to devise decision support tools and learning platforms for the patient to manage infection-induced crises

    An Approach Based on Particle Swarm Optimization for Inspection of Spacecraft Hulls by a Swarm of Miniaturized Robots

    The remoteness and hazards that are inherent to the operating environments of space infrastructures promote their need for automated robotic inspection. In particular, micrometeoroid and orbital debris impact and structural fatigue are common sources of damage to spacecraft hulls. Vibration sensing has been used to detect structural damage in spacecraft hulls as well as in structural health monitoring practices in industry by deploying static sensors. In this paper, we propose using a swarm of miniaturized vibration-sensing mobile robots realizing a network of mobile sensors. We present a distributed inspection algorithm based on the bio-inspired particle swarm optimization and evolutionary algorithm niching techniques to deliver the task of enumeration and localization of an a priori unknown number of vibration sources on a simplified 2.5D spacecraft surface. Our algorithm is deployed on a swarm of simulated cm-scale wheeled robots. These are guided in their inspection task by sensing vibrations arising from failure points on the surface which are detected by on-board accelerometers. We study three performance metrics: (1) proximity of the localized sources to the ground truth locations, (2) time to localize each source, and (3) time to finish the inspection task given a 75% inspection coverage threshold.     Adapting Swarm Intelligence For The Self-Assembly And Optimization Of Networks

    While self-assembly is a fairly active area of research in swarm intelligence and robotics, relatively little attention has been paid to the issues surrounding the construction of network structures. Here, methods developed previously for modeling and controlling the collective movements of groups of agents are extended to serve as the basis for self-assembly or "growth" of networks, using neural networks as a concrete application to evaluate this novel approach. One of the central innovations incorporated into the model presented here is having network connections arise as persistent "trails" left behind moving agents, trails that are reminiscent of pheromone deposits made by agents in ant colony optimization models. The resulting network connections are thus essentially a record of agent movements. The model's effectiveness is demonstrated by using it to produce two large networks that support subsequent learning of topographic and feature maps. Improvements produced by the incorporation of collective movements are also examined through computational experiments. These results indicate that methods for directing collective movements can be extended to support and facilitate network self-assembly. Additionally, the traditional self-assembly problem is extended to include the generation of network structures based on optimality criteria, rather than on target structures that are specified a priori. It is demonstrated that endowing the network components involved in the self-assembly process with the ability to engage in collective movements can be an effective means of generating computationally optimal network structures. This is confirmed on a number of challenging test problems from the domains of trajectory generation, time-series forecasting, and control. Further, this extension of the model is used to illuminate an important relationship between particle swarm optimization, which usually occurs in high dimensional abstract spaces, and self-assembly, which is normally grounded in real and simulated 2D and 3D physical spaces
