The Internet of Things is the next technological revolution after the revolution of computer and internet. IoT integrates the new technologies of computing and communication (e.g. Sensor networks, RFID, Mobile communication and IPV6 etc). The Internet of Things is an emerging topic of technical, social, and economic significance. The term Internet of Things generally refers to scenarios where network connectivity and computing capability extends to objects, sensors and everyday items not normally considered computers, allowing these devices to generate exchange and consume data with minimal human intervention. Internet connect “all people”, Internet of Things connect “all things”. Interconnection of Things or Objects or Machines, e.g., sensors, actuators, mobile phones, electronic devices, home appliances, any existing items and interact with each other via Interne

This paper considers the current progress of the Internet of Things in the real world and presents various tangible applications of IoT in field of agriculture, industries, smart retails, automated systems, smart buildings, automotive IoT, wearable items, transportation, covid -19, e-health, security and intrusion detection. The paper also provides overview of the collaborative applications of the Internet of Things with Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Wireless Sensor Networks, Cloud Computing, Data Management, Cryptography and Blockchain to disseminate its applications for a better understanding of the research community to apply IoT in further innovative fields

Multiple software product lines to configure applications of internet of things

    Get PDF
Software product lines (SPL) emulate the industrial production lines that are capable of generating large volumes of products through reuse schemes and mass production. A multi product line (MPL) aims to reuse of several SPL. Feature models are often used to manage the existing resources of SPLs and define valid products through notations and relationships such as mandatory, optional, and alternative features. The main contribution of this study is a method to manage the variability of multiple SPL and generate a new portfolio of products for Internet of Things (IoT). For this, the problem of developing a universal feature model (FM) for an MPL from merging the FMs of the individual SPLs with a Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE) technique is addressed. In addition, the authors propose a multi-objective optimisation model to maximise the reusability and compatibility between features and minimise the development cost. The model facilitates the design of an MPL-feature model. Authors' empirical results show that the proposed model solved by genetic algorithms allows to configure a variety of software products and to determine the scope of the MPL

With the rise of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, the seamless connection between the physical and digital worlds has been realized. This review paper aims to conduct a science mapping review of IoT applications in industrial management and to identify mainstream research topics, research gaps, and future research directions. Using VOSviewer as a visualization tool, 142 articles retrieved from the Scopus database were quantitatively discussed using scientometric analysis. Additionally, a follow-up qualitative discussion was focused on mainstream research topics, existing research gaps, and future research directions as the main research goals. The results revealed influential findings for the co-occurrence of keywords, journals, countries, authors, and documents analyses. Moreover, it was found that the existing research mainly focused on four main research topics including (1) application of IoT in manufacturing based on cyber-physical systems, (2) IoT-related technologies on logistics and supply chain management, (3) The impact of IoT on business models, and (4) Industrial IoT (IIoT) in the context of Industry 4.0. On this basis, the existing research gaps and future research directions are proposed. This review paper would help relevant practitioners and researchers to better understand the existing body of knowledge and lay the foundation for further research

The central role in development of information society is taken by smart cities and their novel services through the use of modern technology and smart solutions. The key enabler and driver of smart cities is Internet of Things (IoT). In this paper, we have conducted a systematic literature review in order to investigate proposed smart city services driven by IoT. We have formulated the review protocol to define the research question/s, search strategy, selection criteria, study quality assessment, and data extraction strategy. We have defined the following main research question: What are the reported applications of Internet of Things in the development of smart city services? The papers were categorized by the smart city services they proposed or described. We have recognized the following categories: traffic and transport; environment monitoring; accessibility & healthcare; waste management; public lighting; energy management; city infrastructure; and other

    Get PDF
The development of an efficient and cost-effective solution to solve a complex problem (e.g., dynamic detection of toxic gases) is an important research issue in the industrial applications of Internet of Things (IoT). An industrial intelligent ecosystem enables the collection of massive data from the various devices (e.g., sensor-embedded wireless devices) dynamically collaborating with humans. Effectively collaborative analytics based on the collected massive data from humans and devices is quite essential to improve the efficiency of industrial production/service. In this study, we propose a Collaborative Sensing Intelligence (CSI) framework, combining collaborative intelligence and industrial sensing intelligence. The proposed CSI facilitates the cooperativity of analytics with integrating massive spatio-temporal data from different sources and time points. To deploy the CSI for achieving intelligent and efficient industrial production/service, the key challenges and open issues are discussed as well
