Accounting history hobbies; My old books
I began my collection of old accounting books in 1978 when my wife took me into a small antique store in New Hope, Pennsylvania. While she was looking at furniture I browsed through some old books and came across a copy of A Practical System of Bookkeeping by Ira Mayhew, published in 1855. I was intrigued by this small volume and purchased it. This led to my starting a collection of accounting and bookkeeping books published prior to 1900
E-Preservation of Old and Rare Books: A Structured Approach for Creating a Digital Collection
Antique books, old and rare documents are fragile and vulnerable to different hazards. Preserving them for an extended period is a real challenge. From ancient times people started expressing their knowledge by writing and keeping records and subsequently started collecting and storing these at later ages as antique materials. These can be seen in different museums, libraries, archives, individual households, and other places all over the world. Preserving and conserving these antique, old and rare books, documents etc. in good condition is a challenge for librarians, conservators, preservation administrators or persons associated with storing these. In this paper, details of the digital preservation of such a collection available in the Directorate of Historical and Antiquarian Studies (DHAS), Guwahati, Assam, India, are discussed. DHAS is a Government of Assam wing and is mainly mandated to collect, preserve and research historical and antiquarian resources. The collection of DHAS is one of the oldest collections and has been serving as a study and research centre in Assam since 1928. A special drive has been taken for the digital preservation of an identified part of the collection, with grant support from the National Archive of India. This paper discusses the entire project process starting from the project proposal formulation to the structuring of the digital collection. The paper sequentially discusses the different steps of the entire work of digitization of a collection of 241 old and rare books from the main collection of DHAS

ANTIQUE BOOKS FROM THE COLLECTION OF ARCHBISHOP JÓZEF TEODOROWICZ: A MINOR CONTRIBUTION TO THE RESEARCH OF BIBLIOPHILISM IN THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE POLISH ARMENIANS
Armenian Archbishop Józef Teodorowicz (1864-1938) had a collection of antique books, comprising at least 145 titles in a few languages: Latin, Polish, German, and French. Armenian antique books, published with great artistry in Venice and Constantinople, were especially interesting among these works. It was determined that over 80 percent of collection concerned different branches of theology. The rest, i.e. 20 percent, included works of philosophy, ethics, canon law, rhetoric, literature, and linguistics. During the Second World War, after the capture of Lwów by Soviet troops, the collection was partially destroyed and dispersed. In August 1940, preserved fragments were included into the collections belonging to the Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Socialistic Soviet Republic (Lviv Branch). Today, the preserved fragments of the collection from the library of Archbishop Teodorowicz are kept in two institutions: the Division of Antique Books of the Wasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library in Lviv and the Unit of Antique Books of the Ossoliński National Institute in Wrocław

Late antiquity and the antiquarian
Arnaldo Momigliano, the most influential modern student of antiquarianism, advanced the view that there was a late antique antiquarianism, but also lamented the absence of study of the history of antiquarianism in this period. Part of the challenge, however, has been to define the object of such a study. Rather than "finding" antiquarianism in late antiquity as Momigliano did, this article argues that a history that offers explicit analogies between late antique evidence and the avowed antiquarianism of early modern Europe allows a more self-conscious and critical history of late antique engagement with the past. The article offers three examples of this form of analysis, comparing practices of statue collecting in Renaissance Rome and the late RomanWest, learned treatises on the Roman army by Vegetius and Justus Lipsius, and feelings of attachment to a local past as a modern antiquarian stereotype and in a pair of letters to and from Augustine of Hippo

The author presented the basic analytic techniques, especially the
chromatography, useful in the conservation of the antique books. He indicated the
possibilities of the use of EDS technique, electron microscopy and roentgen
fluorescence. These techniques are found to be helpful in the registration of the
changes that happen in the antique paper and in the observation of its morphology.
The basic chemical investigations related with the antique books were commented as
