    A batch-service queueing model with a discrete batch Markovian arrival process

    Queueing systems with batch service have been investigated extensively during the past decades. However, nearly all the studied models share the common feature that an uncorrelated arrival process is considered, which is unrealistic in several real-life situations. In this paper, we study a discrete-time queueing model, with a server that only initiates service when the amount of customers in system (system content) reaches or exceeds a threshold. Correlation is taken into account by assuming a discrete batch Markovian arrival process (D-BMAP), i.e. the distribution of the number of customer arrivals per slot depends on a background state which is determined by a first-order Markov chain. We deduce the probability generating function of the system content at random slot marks and we examine the influence of correlation in the arrival process on the behavior of the system. We show that correlation merely has a small impact on the threshold that minimizes the mean system content. In addition, we demonstrate that correlation might have a significant influence on the system content and therefore has to be included in the model

           Present paper surveys the literature on bulk queueing models. The concept of bulk arrivals and bulk services has gained a tremendous significance in present situations. Due to congestion problem everywhere (banks, metro stations, bus stops, railway reservation, traffic … etc.) researchers have to focus their attention to develop models and mechanism to deal with the same. A number of models have been developed in the area of queueing theory incorporating bulk queueing models. These bulk queueing models can be applied to resolve the congestion problems. Through this survey, an attempt has been made to review the work done on bulk queues, modeling various phenomenons. The goal is to provide sufficient information to analysts, managers and industry people who are interested in using queueing theory to model congestion problems and want to locate the details of relevant models

    Analysis of a multi-server queueing model with vacations and optional secondary services

    In this paper we study a multi-server queueing model in which the customer arrive according to a Markovian arrival process. The customers may require, with a certain probability, an optional secondary service upon completion of a primary service. The secondary services are offered (in batches of varying size) when any of the following conditions holds good: (a) upon completion of a service a free server finds no primary customer waiting in the queue and there is at least one secondary customer (including possibly the primary customer becoming a secondary customer) waiting for service; (b) upon completion of a primary service, the customer requires a secondary service and at that time the number of customers needing a secondary service hits a pre-determined threshold value; (c) a server returning from a vacation finds no primary customer but at least one secondary customer waiting. The servers take vacation when there are no customers (either primary or secondary) waiting to receive service. The model is studied as a QBD-process using matrix-analytic methods and some illustrative examples arediscussed

    Transient behavior of M[x]/G/1 Retrial Queueing Model with Non Persistent Customers, Random break down, Delaying Repair and Bernoulli Vacation

    In this paper we consider a single server batch arrival non-Markovian retrial queueing model with non persistent customers. In accordance with Poisson process, customers arrive in batches with arrival rate  and are served one by one with first come first served basis. The server is being considered as unreliable that it may encounter break down at any time. In order to resume its service the server has to be sent for repair, but the repair does not start immediately so that there is a waiting time before the repair process. The customer, who finds the server busy upon arrival, can either join the orbit with probability p or he/she can leave the system with probability 1-p. More details can be found in the full paper.     Batch arrival bulk service queue with unreliable server, second optional service, two different vacations and restricted admissibility policy

    This paper is concerned with batch arrival queue with an additional second optional service to a batch of customers with dissimilar service rate where the idea of restricted admissibility of arriving batch of customers is also introduced. The server may take two different vacations (i) Emergency vacation-during service the server may go for vacation to an emergency call and after completion of the vacation, the server continues the remaining service to a batch of customers. (ii) Bernoulli vacation-after completion of first essential or second optional service, the server may take a vacation or may remain in the system to serve the next unit, if any. While the server is functioning with first essential or second optional service, it may break off for a short period of time. As a result of breakdown, a batch of customers, either in first essential or second optional service is interrupted. The service channel will be sent to repair process immediately. The repair process presumed to be general distribution. Here, we assumed that the customers just being served before server breakdown wait for the server to complete its remaining service after the completion of the repair process. We derived the queue size distribution at a random epoch and at a departure epoch under the steady state condition. Moreover, various system performance measures, the mean queue size and the average waiting time in the queue have been obtained explicitly. Some particular cases and special cases are determined. A numerical result is also introduced
