Parallel Mining Operating Systems: From Digital Twins to Mining Intelligence

    Get PDF
With the rapid development and modernization requirement of global coal industry, there is an emerging need for intelligent and unmanned mining systems. In this paper, the Intelligent Mining Operating System (IMOS) is proposed and developed, based on the parallel management and control of mining operating infrastructure that integrates the intelligent mining theory, the ACP-based (Artificial societies, Computational experiments, Parallel execution) parallel intelligence approaches, and the new generation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. To satisfy the intelligent and unmanned demand of open-pit mines, the IMOS architecture is developed by integrating the theory of digital quadruplets. The main subsystems and functions of IMOS are elaborated in detail, including a single-vehicle operating subsystem, multi-vehicle collaboration subsystem, vehicle-road collaboration subsystem, unmanned intelligent subsystem, dispatch management subsystem, parallel management and control subsystem, supervisory subsystem, remote takeover subsystem, and communication subsystem. The IMOS presented in this paper is the first integrated solution for intelligent and unmanned mines in China, and has been implemented over ten main open pits in the past few years. Its deployment and utilization will effectively improve the production efficiency and safety level of open-pit mines, promote the construction of ecological mines, and bring great significance to the realization of sustainable mining development

Emergency medical supplies scheduling during public health emergencies: algorithm design based on AI techniques

    Get PDF
Based on AI technology, this study proposes a novel large-scale emergency medical supplies scheduling (EMSS) algorithm to address the issues of low turnover efficiency of medical supplies and unbalanced supply and demand point scheduling in public health emergencies. We construct a fairness index using an improved Gini coefficient by considering the demand for emergency medical supplies (EMS), actual distribution, and the degree of emergency at disaster sites. We developed a bi-objective optimisation model with a minimum Gini index and scheduling time. We employ a heterogeneous ant colony algorithm to solve the Pareto boundary based on reinforcement learning. A reinforcement learning mechanism is introduced to update and exchange pheromones among populations, with reward factors set to adjust pheromones and improve algorithm convergence speed. The effectiveness of the algorithm for a large EMSS problem is verified by comparing its comprehensive performance against a super-large capacity evaluation index. Results demonstrate the algorithm's effectiveness in reducing convergence time and facilitating escape from local optima in EMSS problems. The algorithm addresses the issue of demand differences at each disaster point affecting fair distribution. This study optimises early-stage EMSS schemes for public health events to minimise losses and casualties while mitigating emotional distress among disaster victims

Robotic autonomous systems for earthmoving equipment operating in volatile conditions and teaming capacity: a survey

Abstract There has been an increasing interest in the application of robotic autonomous systems (RASs) for construction and mining, particularly the use of RAS technologies to respond to the emergent issues for earthmoving equipment operating in volatile environments and for the need of multiplatform cooperation. Researchers and practitioners are in need of techniques and developments to deal with these challenges. To address this topic for earthmoving automation, this paper presents a comprehensive survey of significant contributions and recent advances, as reported in the literature, databases of professional societies, and technical documentation from the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM). In dealing with volatile environments, advances in sensing, communication and software, data analytics, as well as self-driving technologies can be made to work reliably and have drastically increased safety. It is envisaged that an automated earthmoving site within this decade will manifest the collaboration of bulldozers, graders, and excavators to undertake ground-based tasks without operators behind the cabin controls; in some cases, the machines will be without cabins. It is worth for relevant small- and medium-sized enterprises developing their products to meet the market demands in this area. The study also discusses on future directions for research and development to provide green solutions to earthmoving.</jats:p

Milestones in Autonomous Driving and Intelligent Vehicles Part \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral1}: Control, Computing System Design, Communication, HD Map, Testing, and Human Behaviors

    Get PDF
Interest in autonomous driving (AD) and intelligent vehicles (IVs) is growing at a rapid pace due to the convenience, safety, and economic benefits. Although a number of surveys have reviewed research achievements in this field, they are still limited in specific tasks and lack systematic summaries and research directions in the future. Our work is divided into 3 independent articles and the first part is a Survey of Surveys (SoS) for total technologies of AD and IVs that involves the history, summarizes the milestones, and provides the perspectives, ethics, and future research directions. This is the second part (Part \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral1} for this technical survey) to review the development of control, computing system design, communication, High Definition map (HD map), testing, and human behaviors in IVs. In addition, the third part (Part \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral2} for this technical survey) is to review the perception and planning sections. The objective of this paper is to involve all the sections of AD, summarize the latest technical milestones, and guide abecedarians to quickly understand the development of AD and IVs. Combining the SoS and Part \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral2}, we anticipate that this work will bring novel and diverse insights to researchers and abecedarians, and serve as a bridge between past and future.Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures, 3 table

Optimization and Communication in UAV Networks

UAVs are becoming a reality and attract increasing attention. They can be remotely controlled or completely autonomous and be used alone or as a fleet and in a large set of applications. They are constrained by hardware since they cannot be too heavy and rely on batteries. Their use still raises a large set of exciting new challenges in terms of trajectory optimization and positioning when they are used alone or in cooperation, and communication when they evolve in swarm, to name but a few examples. This book presents some new original contributions regarding UAV or UAV swarm optimization and communication aspects
