Materials play significant role in the domestic economy and defense with the fast growth of science and technology field. New materials are the core of fresh technologies and the three pillars of modern science and technology are materials science, power technology and data science. The prior properties of the partition panel by using recycled diapers waste depend on the origin of waste deposits and its chemical constituents. This study presents the influence of the ratio on the mechanical properties of polymer in diapers waste reinforced with binder matrix for partition panel application. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of different ratio of diapers waste polymer reinforced epoxy-matrix with regards to mechanical properties and morphology analysis. The polymer includes polypropylene, polystyrene, polyethylene and superabsorbent polymer (SAP) were used as reinforcing material. The tensile and bending resistance for ratio of 0.4 diapers waste polymers indicated the optimum ratio for fabricating the partition panel. Samples with 0.4 ratios of diapers waste polymers have highest stiffness of elasticity reading with 76.06 MPa. A correlation between the micro structural analysis using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the mechanical properties of the material has been discussed

Latest Developments in Industrial Hybrid Machine Tools that Combine Additive and Subtractive Operations

    Get PDF
Hybrid machine tools combining additive and subtractive processes have arisen as a solution to increasing manufacture requirements, boosting the potentials of both technologies, while compensating and minimizing their limitations. Nevertheless, the idea of hybrid machines is relatively new and there is a notable lack of knowledge about the implications arisen from their in-practice use. Therefore, the main goal of the present paper is to fill the existing gap, giving an insight into the current advancements and pending tasks of hybrid machines both from an academic and industrial perspective. To that end, the technical-economical potentials and challenges emerging from their use are identified and critically discussed. In addition, the current situation and future perspectives of hybrid machines from the point of view of process planning, monitoring, and inspection are analyzed. On the one hand, it is found that hybrid machines enable a more efficient use of the resources available, as well as the production of previously unattainable complex parts. On the other hand, it is concluded that there are still some technological challenges derived from the interaction of additive and subtractive processes to be overcome (e.g., process planning, decision planning, use of cutting fluids, and need for a post-processing) before a full implantation of hybrid machines is fulfilledSpecial thanks are addressed to the Industry and Competitiveness Spanish Ministry for the support on the DPI2016-79889-R INTEGRADDI project and to the PARADDISE project H2020-IND-CE-2016-17/H2020-FOF-2016 of the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program

Global industrial trend is shifting towards next industrial revolution Industry 4.0. It is becoming increasingly important for modern manufacturing industries to develop a Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) system by integrating the various operational and information processing functions in design and manufacturing. In spite of being active in research for almost four decades, it is clear that new functionalities are needed to integrate and realize a completely optimal process planning which can be fully compliant towards Smart Factory. In order to develop a CIM system, Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP) plays a key role and therefore it has been the focus of many researchers. In order to gain insight into the current state-of-the-art of CAPP methodologies, 96 research papers have been reviewed. Subsequent sections discuss the different CAPP approaches adopted by researchers to automate different process planning tasks. This paper aims at addressing the key approaches involved and future directions towards Smart Manufacturing

E -commerce for the metal removal industry

The popularity of outsourcing fabrication introduces a problem, namely an inevitable loss of data as information is translated from design to fabrication or from one system to another. Unsatisfactory information, delivered to the outsourcing facility, and inefficient communications between design and fabrication certainly cause enormous economic losses from late product delivery or bad product quality. To overcome these data transferring problems and to improve communications between the design and fabrication sides, a design and manufacturing methodology for custom machined parts in E-Commerce is suggested and implemented in this dissertation. This methodology is based on the idea of a Clean Interface like the Mead-Conway approach for VLSI chip fabrication [MEAD81]. Essential design information for fabricating parts properly with NC (Numerical Controlled) milling machines is expressed in machining/manufacturing features, fabrication friendly terminologies, and is represented by a new language called NCML (Numerical Control Markup Language). NCML is based on XML (Extensible Markup Language)---the document-processing standard proposed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). NCML is designed to include the minimum requisite information necessary for the manufacturer to produce the product. The designer defines NCML, which overcomes geographical separation between design and manufacturing, and minimizes unnecessary interactions caused from lack of information. To prove the possibility of custom machine part fabrication and E-Commerce with NCML, three software systems are implemented. These three systems are FACILE/Design, FACILE/Fabricate, and E-Mill. FACILE is a prototype CAD/CAM system developed to verify NCML feasibility as an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) format. FACILE/Design is a system based on manufacturing features like holes, contours, and pockets. It can be used to create geometric models, verify the design, and create NCML files. The NCML file is imported by FACILE/Fabricate and turned into G-codes by applying appropriate cutting conditions. Simplified machining simulation and cost estimation tools using NCML inputs are also developed to show some examples of NCML applications that can help design and manufacturing activities. To demonstrate how NCML could be used in a web-based application, an E-Business model called E-Mill has been implemented. E-Mill is a market place for machined parts whose data is encoded in NCML. To make E-Mill a feasible E-Commerce model, two-way communication based on NCML data and the visualization of 3D geometric models in the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) are equipped with a competitive matchmaking mechanism. In this dissertation, a whole system based on NCML bridges the gap between design and manufacturing. As a part of the NCML validation process for the new system, the pros and cons of NCML design features are discussed. A system for cost estimation is calibrated and compared to real cutting results for the purpose of validation

Fractal grids can be used to design turbulent flows with low power losses and high turbulence intensities for intense yet economic mixing over a region of designed length and location. The introducing circle grid perforated plate is the main aim of this present paper. In this numerical work, we want to ascertain a new approach in turbulence generators on the structure of premixes flames using perforated plate fractal-grids pattern. In this paper, we compared circle grid perforated plate by varies using its diameters, spacing and number of holes on the plate. The result showed good perceptivity of the fractal generated turbulence and the fractal flow physics. The turbulent intensity can be increased by a grid with higher blockage ratio

A comparison of processing techniques for producing prototype injection moulding inserts.

    Get PDF
This project involves the investigation of processing techniques for producing low-cost moulding inserts used in the particulate injection moulding (PIM) process. Prototype moulds were made from both additive and subtractive processes as well as a combination of the two. The general motivation for this was to reduce the entry cost of users when considering PIM. PIM cavity inserts were first made by conventional machining from a polymer block using the pocket NC desktop mill. PIM cavity inserts were also made by fused filament deposition modelling using the Tiertime UP plus 3D printer. The injection moulding trials manifested in surface finish and part removal defects. The feedstock was a titanium metal blend which is brittle in comparison to commodity polymers. That in combination with the mesoscale features, small cross-sections and complex geometries were considered the main problems. For both processing methods, fixes were identified and made to test the theory. These consisted of a blended approach that saw a combination of both the additive and subtractive processes being used. The parts produced from the three processing methods are investigated and their respective merits and issues are discussed
