Challenges in Bridging Social Semantics and Formal Semantics on the Web

    Get PDF
This paper describes several results of Wimmics, a research lab which names stands for: web-instrumented man-machine interactions, communities, and semantics. The approaches introduced here rely on graph-oriented knowledge representation, reasoning and operationalization to model and support actors, actions and interactions in web-based epistemic communities. The re-search results are applied to support and foster interactions in online communities and manage their resources

Sentiment Lexicon Adaptation with Context and Semantics for the Social Web

Sentiment analysis over social streams offers governments and organisations a fast and effective way to monitor the publics' feelings towards policies, brands, business, etc. General purpose sentiment lexicons have been used to compute sentiment from social streams, since they are simple and effective. They calculate the overall sentiment of texts by using a general collection of words, with predetermined sentiment orientation and strength. However, words' sentiment often vary with the contexts in which they appear, and new words might be encountered that are not covered by the lexicon, particularly in social media environments where content emerges and changes rapidly and constantly. In this paper, we propose a lexicon adaptation approach that uses contextual as well as semantic information extracted from DBPedia to update the words' weighted sentiment orientations and to add new words to the lexicon. We evaluate our approach on three different Twitter datasets, and show that enriching the lexicon with contextual and semantic information improves sentiment computation by 3.4% in average accuracy, and by 2.8% in average F1 measure

Sociology Paradigms for Dynamic Integration of Devices into a Context-Aware System

Ubiquitous and m obile context - aware computing is an essential component of the smart cities infrastructure. Widely available wireless networks, the maturity level of distributed computing and the increasing number of mobile devices have significantly influenced the human experience with computing. In the present paper, we discuss the need for a model that will be able to represent a formal structure of a context - aware system in a device . The core functionality of the model is expected to expose context - aware behaviour and support dynamic integration of mobile devices and context - aware behaviour. The major contribution of this work is to identify deficiencies of the existing model which is using the notions from sociology such as Role, Ownership and Responsibility. The authors gratefully acknowledge funding from the European Commission through the GEO-C project (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2014, Grant Agreement Number 642332, http://www.geo-c.eu/)

Requirements Catalog for Business Process Modeling Recommender Systems

    Get PDF
The manual construction of business process models is a time-consuming and error-prone task. To improve the quality of business process models, several modeling support techniques have been suggested spanning from strict auto-completion of a business process model with pre-defined model elements to suggesting closely matching recommendations. While recommendation systems are widely used and auto-completion functions are a standard feature of programming tools, such techniques have not been exploited for business process modeling although implementation strategies have already been suggested. Therefore, this paper collects requirements from different perspectives (literature and empirical studies) of how to effectively and efficiently assist process modelers in their modeling task. The condensation of requirements represents a comprehensive catalog, which constitutes a solid foundation to implement effective and efficient Process Modeling Recommender Systems (PMRSs). We expect that our contribution will fertilize the field of modeling support techniques to make them a common feature of BPM tools

Assessment of baby Bibs. GC-MS screening, migration into saliva and insight of toxicity with QSAR tools

    Get PDF
Plastic baby Bibs are, according to the European legislation, food contact materials. Therefore, compositional and migration limits applicable to plastics should be observed. This work aimed at identifying potential migrants in Bibs from European market and determining the migration into artificial saliva. Bibs were subjected to screening analyses (GC-MS). Thirty substances non-authorised in European or Swiss legislation were detected: phthalates, light stabilizers, flame retardants and photoinitiators. Irgacure 184, Cyclohexanone, Tinuvin 770, Isophorone and 9-Octadecenamide, (Z)- were detected in saliva after contact with selected Bibs. The migration values render two samples noncompliant although results should be interpreted with caution given the experimental conditions. In order to gain insight on the toxicity of migrants, QSAR tools were applied. Substances non-evaluated or not-listed were analysed with free software regarding their Cramer class (ToxTree and their predicted mutagenicity, carcinogenicity and developmental toxicity (VEGA). Results indicate that surveillance is required: monitoring Bibs'compliance, application of GMPs and traceability.N/

“Buon appetito!” - Analyzing Happiness in Italian Tweets

We report the results of an exploratory study aimed at investigating the language of happiness in Italian tweets. Specifically, we conduct a time-wise analysis of the happiness load of tweets by leveraging a lexicon of happiness extracted from 8.6M tweets. Furthermore, we report the results of a statistical linguistic analysis aimed at extracting the most frequent concepts associated with the happy and sad words in our lexicon.
