Design of sliding-mode observer for a class of uncertain neutral stochastic systems
© 2016 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. The problem of robust H∞ control for a class of uncertain neutral stochastic systems (NSS) is investigated by utilising the sliding-mode observer (SMO) technique. This paper presents a novel observer and integral-type sliding-surface design, based on which a new sufficient condition guaranteeing the resultant sliding-mode dynamics (SMDs) to be mean-square exponentially stable with a prescribed level of H∞ performance is derived. Then, an adaptive reaching motion controller is synthesised to lead the system to the predesigned sliding surface in finite-time almost surely. Finally, two illustrative examples are exhibited to verify the validity and superiority of the developed scheme
New advances in H∞ control and filtering for nonlinear systems
The main objective of this special issue is to
summarise recent advances in H∞ control and filtering
for nonlinear systems, including time-delay, hybrid and
stochastic systems. The published papers provide new
ideas and approaches, clearly indicating the advances
made in problem statements, methodologies or applications
with respect to the existing results. The special
issue also includes papers focusing on advanced and
non-traditional methods and presenting considerable
novelties in theoretical background or experimental
setup. Some papers present applications to newly
emerging fields, such as network-based control and

Observer-Based Robust Passive Control for a Class of Uncertain Neutral Systems: An Integral Sliding Mode Approach
The problem of integral sliding mode control (ISMC) with passivity is investigated for a class of uncertain neutral systems with time-varying delay (NTSTD) and external disturbance. The system states are unavailable. An ISMC strategy is proposed based on the state estimate. By employing a novel sliding functional, a new sufficient criterion of robust asymptotic stability and passivity for both the error system and the sliding mode (SM) dynamic system is derived via linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Then, a SM controller is synthesized to guarantee the reachability of the sliding surface predefined in the state estimate space. Finally, a numerical example shows the feasibility and superiority of the obtained result
Singular Value Decomposition-Based Method for Sliding Mode Control and Optimization of Nonlinear Neutral Systems
The sliding mode control and optimization are investigated for a class of nonlinear
neutral systems with the unmatched nonlinear term. In the framework of Lyapunov stability theory,
the existence conditions for the designed sliding surface and the stability bound α∗ are derived via
twice transformations. The further results are to develop an efficient sliding mode control law with
tuned parameters to attract the state trajectories onto the sliding surface in finite time and remain
there for all the subsequent time. Finally, some comparisons are made to show the advantages of our
proposed method
Terminal Sliding Mode Control with Adaptive Law for Uncertain Nonlinear System
A novel nonsingular terminal sliding mode controller is proposed for a second-order system with unmodeled dynamics uncertainties and external disturbances. We need not achieve the knowledge for boundaries of uncertainties and external disturbances in advance. The adaptive control gains are obtained to estimate the uncertain parameters and external disturbances which are unknown but bounded. The closed loop system stability is ensured with robustness and adaptation by the Lyapunov stability theorem in finite time. An illustrative example of second-order nonlinear system with unmodeled dynamics and external disturbances is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented scheme
Nonlinear Systems
Open Mathematics is a challenging notion for theoretical modeling, technical analysis, and numerical simulation in physics and mathematics, as well as in many other fields, as highly correlated nonlinear phenomena, evolving over a large range of time scales and length scales, control the underlying systems and processes in their spatiotemporal evolution. Indeed, available data, be they physical, biological, or financial, and technologically complex systems and stochastic systems, such as mechanical or electronic devices, can be managed from the same conceptual approach, both analytically and through computer simulation, using effective nonlinear dynamics methods. The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight papers that show the dynamics, control, optimization and applications of nonlinear systems. This has recently become an increasingly popular subject, with impressive growth concerning applications in engineering, economics, biology, and medicine, and can be considered a veritable contribution to the literature. Original papers relating to the objective presented above are especially welcome subjects. Potential topics include, but are not limited to: Stability analysis of discrete and continuous dynamical systems; Nonlinear dynamics in biological complex systems; Stability and stabilization of stochastic systems; Mathematical models in statistics and probability; Synchronization of oscillators and chaotic systems; Optimization methods of complex systems; Reliability modeling and system optimization; Computation and control over networked systems
Synchronization Control for Stochastic Neural Networks with Mixed Time-Varying Delays
Synchronization control of stochastic neural networks with time-varying discrete and continuous delays has been investigated. A novel control scheme is proposed using the Lyapunov functional method and linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. Sufficient conditions have been derived to ensure the global asymptotical mean-square stability for the error system, and thus the drive system synchronizes with the response system. Also, the control gain matrix can be obtained. With these effective methods, synchronization can be achieved. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the theoretical results
Optimized state feedback regulation of 3DOF helicopter system via extremum seeking
In this paper, an optimized state feedback regulation of a 3 degree of freedom (DOF) helicopter is designed via extremum seeking (ES) technique. Multi-parameter ES is applied to optimize the tracking performance via tuning State Vector Feedback with Integration of the Control Error (SVFBICE).
Discrete multivariable version of ES is developed to minimize a cost function that measures the performance of the controller. The cost function is a function of the error between the actual and desired axis positions. The controller parameters are updated online as the optimization takes place. This method significantly decreases the time in obtaining optimal controller parameters. Simulations were conducted for the online optimization under both fixed and varying operating conditions. The results demonstrate the usefulness of using ES for preserving the maximum attainable performance
