    Preventive Maintenance Supply Chain Management Optimal Scheduling on VMACL Machines by Implementing Simulation Annealing Algorithms

    PT. Braja Mukti Cakra uses various types of engines to produce parts for truck cars. Vertical Lathe Automatic Chucking Machine (VMACL) is a machine that has the highest frequency of damage when compared to other machines. To reduce damage costs, preventive maintenance is well scheduled. This scheduling problem solving is done using the Annealing Simulation Algorithm. The results of the analysis give direction that the scheduling that must be done are: The maintenance action schedule for the Lifter component is at month 1,6,7,22,24,34, for the Insert component at 4,15,18,27,33 months, and for the Door component at the 2nd month, 12,13,16,17,30,36. Replacement actions for the Lifter component were carried out in the 4,5th month, 1,17,20,29, for the Insert component in the 9,19,22,23,35 months, and for the Door component in the 1,20,27 months. . Scheduling for 36 months using the Simulated Annealing Algorithm will cost IDR. 84,119,244.60 and produce greater reliability than the previous reliability of 58.44%

    This book, as a Special Issue, is a collection of some of the latest advancements in designing and scheduling smart manufacturing systems. The smart manufacturing concept is undoubtedly considered a paradigm shift in manufacturing technology. This conception is part of the Industry 4.0 strategy, or equivalent national policies, and brings new challenges and opportunities for the companies that are facing tough global competition. Industry 4.0 should not only be perceived as one of many possible strategies for manufacturing companies, but also as an important practice within organizations. The main focus of Industry 4.0 implementation is to combine production, information technology, and the internet. The presented Special Issue consists of ten research papers presenting the latest works in the field. The papers include various topics, which can be divided into three categories—(i) designing and scheduling manufacturing systems (seven articles), (ii) machining process optimization (two articles), (iii) digital insurance platforms (one article). Most of the mentioned research problems are solved in these articles by using genetic algorithms, the harmony search algorithm, the hybrid bat algorithm, the combined whale optimization algorithm, and other optimization and decision-making methods. The above-mentioned groups of articles are briefly described in this order in this book

    Adaptive Order Dispatching based on Reinforcement Learning: Application in a Complex Job Shop in the Semiconductor Industry

    Heutige Produktionssysteme tendieren durch die Marktanforderungen getrieben zu immer kleineren Losgrößen, höherer Produktvielfalt und größerer Komplexität der Materialflusssysteme. Diese Entwicklungen stellen bestehende Produktionssteuerungsmethoden in Frage. Im Zuge der Digitalisierung bieten datenbasierte Algorithmen des maschinellen Lernens einen alternativen Ansatz zur Optimierung von Produktionsabläufen. Aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse zeigen eine hohe Leistungsfähigkeit von Verfahren des Reinforcement Learning (RL) in einem breiten Anwendungsspektrum. Im Bereich der Produktionssteuerung haben sich jedoch bisher nur wenige Autoren damit befasst. Eine umfassende Untersuchung verschiedener RL-Ansätze sowie eine Anwendung in der Praxis wurden noch nicht durchgeführt. Unter den Aufgaben der Produktionsplanung und -steuerung gewährleistet die Auftragssteuerung (order dispatching) eine hohe Leistungsfähigkeit und Flexibilität der Produktionsabläufe, um eine hohe Kapazitätsauslastung und kurze Durchlaufzeiten zu erreichen. Motiviert durch komplexe Werkstattfertigungssysteme, wie sie in der Halbleiterindustrie zu finden sind, schließt diese Arbeit die Forschungslücke und befasst sich mit der Anwendung von RL für eine adaptive Auftragssteuerung. Die Einbeziehung realer Systemdaten ermöglicht eine genauere Erfassung des Systemverhaltens als statische Heuristiken oder mathematische Optimierungsverfahren. Zusätzlich wird der manuelle Aufwand reduziert, indem auf die Inferenzfähigkeiten des RL zurückgegriffen wird. Die vorgestellte Methodik fokussiert die Modellierung und Implementierung von RL-Agenten als Dispatching-Entscheidungseinheit. Bekannte Herausforderungen der RL-Modellierung in Bezug auf Zustand, Aktion und Belohnungsfunktion werden untersucht. Die Modellierungsalternativen werden auf der Grundlage von zwei realen Produktionsszenarien eines Halbleiterherstellers analysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass RL-Agenten adaptive Steuerungsstrategien erlernen können und bestehende regelbasierte Benchmarkheuristiken übertreffen. Die Erweiterung der Zustandsrepräsentation verbessert die Leistung deutlich, wenn ein Zusammenhang mit den Belohnungszielen besteht. Die Belohnung kann so gestaltet werden, dass sie die Optimierung mehrerer Zielgrößen ermöglicht. Schließlich erreichen spezifische RL-Agenten-Konfigurationen nicht nur eine hohe Leistung in einem Szenario, sondern weisen eine Robustheit bei sich ändernden Systemeigenschaften auf. Damit stellt die Forschungsarbeit einen wesentlichen Beitrag in Richtung selbstoptimierender und autonomer Produktionssysteme dar. Produktionsingenieure müssen das Potenzial datenbasierter, lernender Verfahren bewerten, um in Bezug auf Flexibilität wettbewerbsfähig zu bleiben und gleichzeitig den Aufwand für den Entwurf, den Betrieb und die Überwachung von Produktionssteuerungssystemen in einem vernünftigen Gleichgewicht zu halten

    A review of data mining applications in semiconductor manufacturing

However, this vast amount of information and hidden knowledge implicit in all of this data could be utilized more efficiently. With the help of data mining techniques unknown relationships can be systematically discovered. The production of semiconductors is a highly complex process, which entails several subprocesses that employ a diverse array of equipment. The size of the semiconductors signifies a high number of units can be produced, which require huge amounts of data in order to be able to control and improve the semiconductor manufacturing process. Therefore, in this paper a structured review is made through a sample of 137 papers of the published articles in the scientific community regarding data mining applications in semiconductor manufacturing. A detailed bibliometric analysis is also made. All data mining applications are classified in function of the application area.     Multi-agent deep reinforcement learning based Predictive Maintenance on parallel machines

    In the context of Industry 4.0, companies understand the advantages of performing Predictive Maintenance (PdM). However, when moving towards PdM, several considerations must be carefully examined. First, they need to have a sufficient number of production machines and relative fault data to generate maintenance predictions. Second, they need to adopt the right maintenance approach, which, ideally, should self-adapt to the machinery, priorities of the organization, technician skills, but also to be able to deal with uncertainty. Reinforcement learning (RL) is envisioned as a key technique in this regard due to its inherent ability to learn by interacting through trials and errors, but very few RL-based maintenance frameworks have been proposed so far in the literature, or are limited in several respects. This paper proposes a new multi-agent approach that learns a maintenance policy performed by technicians, under the uncertainty of multiple machine failures. This approach comprises RL agents that partially observe the state of each machine to coordinate the decision-making in maintenance scheduling, resulting in the dynamic assignment of maintenance tasks to technicians (with different skills) over a set of machines. Experimental evaluation shows that our RL-based maintenance policy outperforms traditional maintenance policies (incl., corrective and preventive ones) in terms of failure prevention and downtime, improving by ≈75% the overall performance

    The objectives of 301 projects placed under contract by the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) are described. These projects were selected competitively from among proposals submitted to NASA in response to the 1991 SBIR Program Solicitation. The basic document consists of edited, non-proprietary abstracts of the winning proposals submitted by small businesses. The abstracts are presented under the 15 technical topics within which Phase 1 proposals were solicited. Each project was assigned a sequential identifying number from 001 to 301, in order of its appearance in the body of the report. Appendixes to provide additional information about the SBIR program and permit cross-reference of the 1991 Phase 1 projects by company name, location by state, principal investigator, NASA Field Center responsible for management of each project, and NASA contract number are included
