A Multi-channel Application Framework for Customer Care Service Using Best-First Search Technique
It has become imperative to find a solution to the dissatisfaction in response by mobile
service providers when interacting with their customer care centres. Problems faced with
Human to Human Interaction (H2H) between customer care centres and their customers
include delayed response time, inconsistent solutions to questions or enquires and lack of
dedicated access channels for interaction with customer care centres in some cases.
This paper presents a framework and development techniques for a multi-channel
application providing Human to System (H2S) interaction for customer care centre of a
mobile telecommunication provider. The proposed solution is called Interactive Customer
Service Agent (ICSA). Based on single-authoring, it will provide three media of interaction
with the customer care centre of a mobile telecommunication operator: voice, phone and
web browsing. A mathematical search technique called Best-First Search to generate

Web - Based GIS for Tourist Guide with SMS / MMS Technology
Web Based GIS is a system that combines two applications which are wireless
communication and web site application. The main objectives ofthe system are to ease
tourist in finding certain location in Malacca and to also to help them to access to the
required location in a shortest period oftime. Other objectives are to develop a system
that is accessible to the user in terms of location and computer technology that are used,
to develop a system that can provide accurate location and information for tourist, to
help administrator in order to monitor the system and to develop a user-friendly
interface or system by applying HCI elements. Usually, people view map using paper
map and this process is inefficient and will cost a lot oftime in finding the paper map.
Besides, it is difficult for the tourist to find certain location in a state. It consumes a lot
of times in looking the location that we want without having any idea where the
location is. The scope ofthis project is only limited to Malacca. The system will focus
on Bandar Malacca's map and information concerning the map. Other than that, there
is a research about Web Based GIS and ArcIMS ( system requirements, the best
viewers, publish data on website). Waterfall model has been chosen as the methodology
in developing this system
eStorys: A visual storyboard system supporting back-channel communication for emergencies
This is the post-print version of the final paper published in Journal of Visual Languages & Computing. The published article is available from the link below. Changes resulting from the publishing process, such as peer review, editing, corrections, structural formatting, and other quality control mechanisms may not be reflected in this document. Changes may have been made to this work since it was submitted for publication. Copyright @ 2010 Elsevier B.V.In this paper we present a new web mashup system for helping people and professionals to retrieve information about emergencies and disasters. Today, the use of the web during emergencies, is confirmed by the employment of systems like Flickr, Twitter or Facebook as demonstrated in the cases of Hurricane Katrina, the July 7, 2005 London bombings, and the April 16, 2007 shootings at Virginia Polytechnic University. Many pieces of information are currently available on the web that can be useful for emergency purposes and range from messages on forums and blogs to georeferenced photos. We present here a system that, by mixing information available on the web, is able to help both people and emergency professionals in rapidly obtaining data on emergency situations by using multiple web channels. In this paper we introduce a visual system, providing a combination of tools that demonstrated to be effective in such emergency situations, such as spatio/temporal search features, recommendation and filtering tools, and storyboards. We demonstrated the efficacy of our system by means of an analytic evaluation (comparing it with others available on the web), an usability evaluation made by expert users (students adequately trained) and an experimental evaluation with 34 participants.Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and

mLearning, development and delivery : creating opportunity and enterprise within the HE in FE context
This research project was funded by ESCalate in 2006-7 to support Somerset College in developing the curriculum, as well as widening participation via the use of mobile communications technologies such as mp3 players and mobile phones. The Project represents a highly topical and timely engagement with the opportunities for learning provided by the burgeoning use of mobile computing/ communications devices. Activities bring together colleagues from Teacher Education and Multimedia Computing in an innovative approach to designing for and delivering the curriculum. The Project addresses pedagogic issues and also vitally involves current and future learners, providing them with a new context for skills development and entrepreneurship. Anticipated outcomes include informed development of new HE modules and professional CPD activities which address the skills and context of this emerging approach to delivering the curriculum. The Project also intends to trial and evaluate the use of mobile technologies to support a blended learning approach to programme delivery and the development of a FD module which could be delivered via a mobile computing device. An interim report and a final project report are available as Word and PDF file
A service-oriented infrastructure for collaborative learning in virtual knowledge spaces
Classical knowledge production is an author-centered process. The emergence of cooperative internet technologies such as wikis or blogs shows a shift towards stronger cooperative production and communication of knowledge, closing the gap between readers and authors. The incorporation of such participatory mechanisms into CSCL/CSCW systems raises several new requirements. We present an open service infrastructure that provides an architecture meeting these demands, while integrating itself into a network of already-established services.Education for the 21 st century - impact of ICT and Digital Resources ConferenceRed de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI

eMath 3.0: building blocks for a social and semantic Web for online mathematics & elearning
In this paper we present recent developments in content markup for mathematics, and a corresponding software stack that functions as an enabling technology for a social and semantic web for the STEM disciplines. We show the potential of this technology in two eMath 3.0 applications: PlanetMathRedux, a re-implementation of the mathematical encyclopedia PlanetMath.org, and PantaRheiRedux, a community reader for course materials. These applications indicate both present and potential uses for this software as a basis for eLearning applications in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics through the addition of suitable pedagogies
