A review of convex approaches for control, observation and safety of linear parameter varying and Takagi-Sugeno systems
This paper provides a review about the concept of convex systems based on Takagi-Sugeno, linear parameter varying (LPV) and quasi-LPV modeling. These paradigms are capable of hiding the nonlinearities by means of an equivalent description which uses a set of linear models interpolated by appropriately defined weighing functions. Convex systems have become very popular since they allow applying extended linear techniques based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to complex nonlinear systems. This survey aims at providing the reader with a significant overview of the existing LMI-based techniques for convex systems in the fields of control, observation and safety. Firstly, a detailed review of stability, feedback, tracking and model predictive control (MPC) convex controllers is considered. Secondly, the problem of state estimation is addressed through the design of proportional, proportional-integral, unknown input and descriptor observers. Finally, safety of convex systems is discussed by describing popular techniques for fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control (FTC).Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Among different kinds of models for fuzzy systems, the so-called Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model has been quite popular due to its convenient and simple dynamic structure as well as its capability of approximating any smooth nonlinear function to any specified accuracy within any compact set. In terms of such a model, the performance analysis and the design of controllers and filters play important roles in the research of fuzzy systems. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the T-S fuzzy control and filtering problems with various network-induced phenomena. The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include communication delays, packet dropouts, signal quantization, and randomly occurring uncertainties (ROUs). With such network-induced phenomena, the developments on T-S fuzzy control and filtering issues are reviewed in detail. In addition, some latest results on this topic are highlighted. In the end, conclusions are drawn and some possible future research directions are pointed out. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61134009, 61329301, 11301118 and 61174136, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province of China under Grant BK20130017, the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities of China under Grant CUSF-DH-D-2013061, the Royal Society of the U.K., and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

This paper is concerned with the passivity and passification problems of the stochastic discrete-time T-S fuzzy systems with delay. We first propose the definition of passivity in the sense of expectation. Then, by utilizing the Lyapunov functional method, the stochastic analysis combined with the matrix inequality techniques, a sufficient condition in terms of linear matrix inequalities is presented, ensuring the passivity performance of the T-S fuzzy models. Finally, based on this criterion, state feedback controller is designed, and several criteria are obtained to make the closed-loop system passive in the sense of expectation. The results acquired in this paper are delay dependent in the sense that they depend on not only the lower bound but also the upper bound of the time-varying delay. Numerical examples are also provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of our criteria. This work was supported in part by the Royal Society Sino–British Fellowship Trust Award of the U.K., by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 60804028, by the Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education for New Teachers in China under Grant 200802861044, and by the Teaching and Research Fund for Excellent Young Teachers at Southeast University of China

Observer-based H∞ control for systems with repeated scalar nonlinearities and multiple packet losses
This paper is concerned with the H∞ control problem for a class of systems with repeated scalar nonlinearities and multiple missing measurements. The nonlinear system is described by a discrete-time state equation involving a repeated scalar nonlinearity, which typically appears in recurrent neural networks. The measurement missing phenomenon is assumed to occur, simultaneously, in the communication channels from the sensor to the controller and from the controller to the actuator, where the missing probability for each sensor/actuator is governed by an individual random variable satisfying a certain probabilistic distribution in the interval [0 1]. Attention is focused on the analysis and design of an observer-based feedback controller such that the closed-loop control system is stochastically stable and preserves a guaranteed H∞ performance. Sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of admissible controllers. It is shown that the controller design problem under consideration is solvable if certain linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are feasible. Three examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed theoretical result

A sequence of random variables, all of which are mutually independent but obey the Bernoulli distribution, is introduced to account for the probabilistic communication delays. The measurement-missing phenomenon occurs in a random way. The missing probability for each sensor satisfies a certain probabilistic distribution in the interval. Here, the attention is focused on the analysis and design of H∞ fuzzy output-feedback controllers such that the closed-loop Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-control system is exponentially stable in the mean square. The disturbance-rejection attenuation is constrained to a given level by means of the H∞-performance index. Intensive analysis is carried out to obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of admissible output feedback controllers, which ensures the exponential stability as well as the prescribed H∞ performance. The cone-complementarity-linearization procedure is employed to cast the controller-design problem into a sequential minimization one that is solved by the semi-definite program method. Simulation results are utilized to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design technique in this paper. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, U.K., under Grant GR/S27658/01, in part by the Royal Society, U.K., in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of

Fuzzy adaptive tracking control within the full envelope for an unmanned aerial vehicle
AbstractMotivated by the autopilot of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with a wide flight envelope span experiencing large parametric variations in the presence of uncertainties, a fuzzy adaptive tracking controller (FATC) is proposed. The controller consists of a fuzzy baseline controller and an adaptive increment, and the main highlight is that the fuzzy baseline controller and adaptation laws are both based on the fuzzy multiple Lyapunov function approach, which helps to reduce the conservatism for the large envelope and guarantees satisfactory tracking performances with strong robustness simultaneously within the whole envelope. The constraint condition of the fuzzy baseline controller is provided in the form of linear matrix inequality (LMI), and it specifies the satisfactory tracking performances in the absence of uncertainties. The adaptive increment ensures the uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) predication errors to recover satisfactory responses in the presence of uncertainties. Simulation results show that the proposed controller helps to achieve high-accuracy tracking of airspeed and altitude desirable commands with strong robustness to uncertainties throughout the entire flight envelope
Integral Sliding Mode Control for Markovian Jump T-S Fuzzy Descriptor Systems Based on the Super-Twisting Algorithm
This paper investigates integral sliding mode control problems for Markovian jump T-S fuzzy descriptor systems via the super-twisting algorithm. A new integral sliding surface which is continuous is constructed and an integral sliding mode control scheme based on a variable gain super-twisting algorithm is presented to guarantee the well-posedness of the state trajectories between two consecutive switchings. The stability of the sliding motion is analyzed by considering the descriptor redundancy and the properties of fuzzy membership functions. It is shown that the proposed variable gain super-twisting algorithm is an extension of the classical single-input case to the multi-input case. Finally, a bio-economic system is numerically simulated to verify the merits of the method proposed

POLYNOMIAL STATIC OUTPUT FEEDBACK H ∞ CONTROL FOR CONTINUOUS-TIME LINEAR SYSTEMS VIA DESCRIPTOR APPROACH
International audienceThis paper deals with the problem of the robust static output feedback H ∞ control (SOFC) for continuous linear systems with polytopic uncertainties. The controller has been gotten by the use of descriptor redundancy. Under this approach a sufficient condition is provided for the existence of a solution to the problem. Thus, the advantage of this method is to obtain more free matrices in the design condition, also the polynomial approach helps to have a less conservative result. In the end, the performance of the method is shown by several examples
