    The European Industrial Data Space (EIDS)

    This research work has been performed in the framework of the Boost 4.0 Big Data lighthouse initiative, a project that has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement no. 780732. This datadriven digital transformation research is also endorsed by the Digital Factory Alliance (DFA)The path that the European Commission foresees to leverage data in the best possible way for the sake of European citizens and the digital single market clearly addresses the need for a European Data Space. This data space must follow the rules, derived from European values. The European Data Strategy rests on four pillars: (1) Governance framework for access and use; (2) Investments in Europe’s data capabilities and infrastructures; (3) Competences and skills of individuals and SMEs; (4) Common European Data Spaces in nine strategic areas such as industrial manufacturing, mobility, health, and energy. The project BOOST 4.0 developed a prototype for the industrial manufacturing sector, called European Industrial Data Space (EIDS), an endeavour of 53 companies. The publication will show the developed architectural pattern as well as the developed components and introduce the required infrastructure that was developed for the EIDS. Additionally, the population of such a data space with Big Data enabled services and platforms is described and will be enriched with the perspective of the pilots that have been build based on EIDS.publishersversionpublishe

    Uma solução de implantação auto-adaptativa para plataformas Android

Consequentemente, essas aplicações móveis podem exigir tolerar falhas em tempo de execução. No entanto, a maioria das aplicações móveis de hoje são implantados usando configurações estáticas, tornando difícil tolerar falhas durante a sua execução. Nós propomos uma infraestrutura de implantação auto-adaptativa para lidar com este problema. A nossa solução oferece um circuito autônomo que administra o modelo de configuração atual da aplicação usando um modelo de características dinâmico associado com o modelo arquitetônico da mesma. Consequently, these mobile applications may require tolerating failures at runtime. However, most of the today¿s mobile applications are deployed using static configurations, making difficult to tolerate failure during their execution. We propose an adaptive deployment infrastructure to deal with this problem. Our solution offers an autonomic loop that manages the current configuration model of the application using a dynamic feature model associated with the architectural model. During runtime, according to the dynamic feature selection, the deployed architectural model can be modified to provide a new deployment solution.     Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), in the past two decades, has become the most influential and dominant programming paradigm for developing large and complex software systems. With OOP, developers can rely on design patterns that are widely accepted as solutions for recurring problems and used to develop flexible, reusable and modular software. However, recent studies have shown that Objected-Oriented Abstractions are not able to modularize these pattern concerns and tend to lead to programs with poor modularity. Feature-Oriented Programming (FOP) is an extension of OOP that aims to improve the modularity and to support software variability in OOP by refining classes and methods. In this thesis, based upon the work of integrating an online tutor systems, ASSISTments, with other online learning management systems, we evaluate FOP with respect to modularity. This proof-of-concept effort demonstrates how to reduce the effort in designing integration code

    WeaFQAs: A Software Product Line Approach for Customizing and Weaving Efficient Functional Quality Attributes

    Fecha de Lectura de Tesis: 10 de julio de 2018Los atributos de calidad funcionales (FQA) son aquellos que tienen una clara implicación en la funcionalidad del sistema, es decir, existen unos componentes específicos que deben ser incorporados a la arquitectura software del sistema para satisfacer sus requisitos de atributos de calidad. Ejemplos de FQAs son seguridad, usabilidad, o persistencia. Modelar estos atributos es una tarea compleja. Por un lado, se componen de muchas características relacionadas, por ejemplo seguridad está compuesto, entre otros, por autenticación, confidencialidad y encriptación. Tienen dependencias entre ellos, por ejemplo, seguridad puede ser requerido por usabilidad o persistencia. Por otro lado, tienen muchos puntos de variabilidad: una aplicación concreta puede requerir autenticación y control de acceso mientras que otra puede necesitar sólo encriptación. Además, su funcionalidad suele estar dispersa afectando a varios componentes del sistema en desarrollo. El objetivo de esta tesis es definir una línea de productos software orientada a aspectos que permita: (1) modelar las similitudes y la variabilidad de los FQAs desde las primeras etapas del proceso de desarrollo, (2) gestionar las dependencias existentes entre los FQAs, (3) independizar el modelado de los FQAs de la arquitectura de la aplicación afectada, (4) configurar los FQAs en base a los requisitos de cada aplicación teniendo además en cuenta propiedades no funcionales como el rendimiento y el consumo energético de cada solución, (5) incorporar las configuraciones a la arquitectura de la aplicación de manera automática; y (6) gestionar la evolución de los FQAs cuando los requisitos cambien en el futuro. Como resultado se ha definido WeaFQAs, un proceso software para gestionar los FQAs que cubre todos los puntos mencionados. Se han realizado y comparado dos instanciaciones de WeaFQAs usando diferentes lenguajes de variabilidad y de modelado, además de proporcionar soporte con una herramienta basada en el lenguaje CVL

    A fragmentising interface to a large corpus of digitized text: (Post)humanism and non-consumptive reading via features

    While the idea of distant reading does not rule out the possibility of close reading of the individual components of the corpus of digitized text that is being distant-read, this ceases to be the case when parts of the corpus are, for reasons relating to intellectual property, not accessible for consumption through downloading followed by close reading. Copyright restrictions on material in collections of digitized text such as the HathiTrust Digital Library (HTDL) necessitates providing facilities for non-consumptive reading, one of the approaches to which consists of providing users with features from the text in the form of small fragments of text, instead of the text itself. We argue that, contrary to expectation, the fragmentary quality of the features generated by the reading interface does not necessarily imply that the mode of reading enabled and mediated by these features points in an anti-humanist direction. We pose the fragmentariness of the features as paradigmatic of the fragmentation with which digital techniques tend, more generally, to trouble the humanities. We then generalize our argument to put our work on feature-based non-consumptive reading in dialogue with contemporary debates that are currently taking place in philosophy and in cultural theory and criticism about posthumanism and agency. While the locus of agency in such a non-consumptive practice of reading does not coincide with the customary figure of the singular human subject as reader, it is possible to accommodate this fragmentising practice within the terms of an ampler notion of agency imagined as dispersed across an entire technosocial ensemble.     Modeling Business Process Variability

    This master thesis presents research findings on business process variability modeling. Its main goal is to analyze inherent problems of business process variability and solve them simply, innovatively and effectively. To achieve this goal, process variability is defined by analyzing scientific literature, its main problems identified and is illustrated using a healthcare running example: process variability is classified into process variability within the domain space and over time. These two forms of process variability respectively lead to process variability modeling and process model evolution problems. After defining the main problems inherent to process variability, the focus of this research project is defined: solving process variability modeling problems. First current business process modeling languages are evaluated to assess the effectiveness of their respective modeling concepts when modeling process variability, using a newly created set of evaluation criteria and the healthcare running example. The following business process modeling languages are evaluated: Event driven process chains (EPC), the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) and Configurable EPC (C-EPC). Business process variability modeling and Software product line engineering have similar problems. Therefore the variability modeling concepts developed by software product line engineering are analyzed. Feature diagrams and software configuration management are the main variability management concepts provided by software product line engineering. To apply these variability management concepts to model process variability meant combining them with existing business modeling languages. Riebisch feature diagrams are combined with C-EPC to form Feature-EPC. Applying software configuration management, meant merging Change Oriented Versioning with basic EPC to create COV-EPC, and merging the Proteus Configuration Language with basic EPC to design PCL-EPC. Finally these newly created business process modeling languages are also evaluated using the newly designed evaluation criteria and the healthcare running example. EPC or BPMN are not suited to model business process variability within the domain space. C-EPC provide explicit means to model business process variability, however the process models tend to get big very fast. Furthermore the syntax, the contextual constraints and the semantics of the configuration requirements and guidelines used to configure the C-EPC process models are unclear. Feature-EPC improve C-EPC with domain modeling capability and clearly defined configuration rules: their syntax, contextual constraints and semantics have been clearly defined using a context free grammar in Backus-Naur form. Furthermore, consistent combinations of features and configuration rules are ensured using respectively constraints and a conflict resolution algorithm. However, Feature-EPC and C-EPC suffer from the same weakness: large configurable process models. In COV-EPC and PCL-EPC the problem of large configurable process models is solved. COV-EPC ensures consistent combinations of options and configuration rules using respectively validities and a conflict resolution algorithm. PCL-EPC guarantees consistent combinations of process fragments by means of a PCL specification

    A Digitization and Conversion Tool for Imaged Drawings to Intelligent Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)

    In the Fourth Industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence technology and big data science are emerging rapidly. To apply these informational technologies to the engineering industries, it is essential to digitize the data that are currently archived in image or hard-copy format. For previously created design drawings, the consistency between the design products is reduced in the digitization process, and the accuracy and reliability of estimates of the equipment and materials by the digitized drawings are remarkably low. In this paper, we propose a method and system of automatically recognizing and extracting design information from imaged piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) drawings and automatically generating digitized drawings based on the extracted data by using digital image processing techniques such as template matching and sliding window method. First, the symbols are recognized by template matching and extracted from the imaged P&ID drawing and registered automatically in the database. Then, lines and text are recognized and extracted from in the imaged P&ID drawing using the sliding window method and aspect ratio calculation, respectively. The extracted symbols for equipment and lines are associated with the attributes of the closest text and are stored in the database in neutral format. It is mapped with the predefined intelligent P&ID information and transformed to commercial P&ID tool formats with the associated information stored. As illustrated through the validation case studies, the intelligent digitized drawings generated by the above automatic conversion system, the consistency of the design product is maintained, and the problems experienced with the traditional and manual P&ID input method by engineering companies, such as time consumption, missing items, and misspellings, are solved through the final fine-tune validation process.11Ysciescopu
