    Get PDF
Evolutionary algorithms are applied to the on- line generation of servo-motor control systems. In this paper, the evolving population of controllers is evaluated at run-time via hardware in the loop, rather than on a simulated model. Disturbances are also introduced at run-time in order to pro- duce robust performance. Multiobjective optimisation of both PI and Fuzzy Logic controllers is considered. Finally an on-line implementation of Genetic Programming is presented based around the Simulink standard blockset. The on-line designed controllers are shown to be robust to both system noise and ex- ternal disturbances while still demonstrating excellent steady- state and dvnamic characteristics

Three-phase induction motor (TIM) is widely used in industrial application like paper mills, water treatment and sewage plants in the urban area. In these applications, the speed of TIM is very important that should be not varying with applied load torque. In this study, direct on line (DOL) motor starting without controller is modelled to evaluate the motor response when connected directly to main supply. Conventional PI controller for stator direct current and stator quadrature current of induction motor are designed as an inner loop controller as well as a second conventional PI controller is designed in the outer loop for controlling the TIM speed. Proposed combined PI-lead (CPIL) controllers for inner and outer loops are designed to improve the overall performance of the TIM as compared with the conventional controller. In this paper, dynamic adjustment grasshopper optimization algorithm (DAGOA) is proposed for tuning the proposed controller of the system. Numerical results based on well-selected test function demonstrate that DAGOA has a better performance in terms of speed of convergence, solution accuracy and reliability than SGOA. The study results revealed that the currents and speed of TIM system using CPIL-DAGOA are faster than system using conventional PI and CPIL controllers tuned by SGOA. Moreover, the speed controller of TIM system with CPIL controlling scheme based on DAGOA reached the steady state faster than others when applied load torque

    Get PDF
The need for tuning the PI controller is to improve its performance metrics such as rise time, settling time and overshoot. This paper proposed the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) tuning method of a Proportional Integral (PI) controller for fixed speed Wind Turbine. The objective is to overcome the limitations in using the PSO and GA tuning methods for tuning the PI controller, such as quick convergence occurring too soon into a local optimum, and the controller step input response. The GWO, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and the Genetic Algorithm (GA) tuning methods were implemented in the Matlab 2016b to search the optimal gains of the Proportional and Integral controller through minimization of the objective function. A comparison was made between the results obtained from the GWO tuning method against PSO and GA tuning techniques. The GWO computed the smallest value of the objective function minimized. It exhibited faster convergence and better time response specification compared to other methods. These and more performance indicators show the superiority of the GWO tuning method

Simulation-based coyote optimization algorithm to determine gains of PI controller for enhancing the performance of solar PV water-pumping system

    Get PDF
In this study, a simulation-based coyote optimization algorithm (COA) to identify the gains of PI to ameliorate the water-pumping system performance fed from the photovoltaic system is presented. The aim is to develop a stand-alone water-pumping system powered by solar energy, i.e., without the need of electric power from the utility grid. The voltage of the DC bus was adopted as a good candidate to guarantee the extraction of the maximum power under partial shading conditions. In such a system, two proportional-integral (PI) controllers, at least, are necessary. The adjustment of (Proportional-Integral) controllers are always carried out by classical and tiresome trials and errors techniques which becomes a hard task and time-consuming. In order to overcome this problem, an optimization problem was reformulated and modeled under functional time-domain constraints, aiming at tuning these decision variables. For achieving the desired operational characteristics of the PV water-pumping system for both rotor speed and DC-link voltage, simultaneously, the proposed COA algorithm is adopted. It is carried out through resolving a multiobjective optimization problem employing the weighted-sum technique. Inspired on theCanis latransspecies, the COA algorithm is successfully investigated to resolve such a problem by taking into account some constraints in terms of time-domain performance as well as producing the maximum power from the photovoltaic generation system. To assess the efficiency of the suggested COA method, the classical Ziegler-Nichols and trial-error tuning methods for the DC-link voltage and rotor speed dynamics, were compared. The main outcomes ensured the effectiveness and superiority of the COA algorithm. Compared to the other reported techniques, it is superior in terms of convergence rapidity and solution qualities

Speed control of an induction motor is an important part of the operation of an induction motor. One method of regulating motor speed is the addition of a PID controller. PID parameters must be tuned properly to get the optimal speed. In this study, the PID controller tuning method uses an artificial intelligence method based on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). ACO algorithm in an intelligent algorithm that is inspired by the behavior of ants looking for food sources in groups with traces of feromone left behind. In this study, food sources are represented as optimal parameters of PID. From the computational results obtained optimal parameters respectively, P (Proportional) 0.5359, I (Integral) 0.1173, D (Derivative) 0.0427. ACO computing found the optimal parameters in the 21st iteration with a minimum fitness function of 11.8914. Case studies are used with two variations of the speed of the induction motor input. With optimal tuning, the performance of the induction motor is increasing, marked by a minimum overshoot of 1.08 pu and a speed variation of both overshoots of 1,201 pu, whereas without control 1.49 pu and 1.28 pu, as well as with PID trial control of 1.22 pu and 1.23 pu respectively. The benefits of this research can be used as a reference for the operation of induction motors, by tuning the Ant Colony intelligent method for the PID controller in real-time with the addition of microcontroller components

Fractional-order proportional integral derivative (FOPID) controllers are becoming increasingly popular for various industrial applications due to the advantages they can offer. Among these applications, heating and temperature control systems are receiving significant attention, applying FOPID controllers to achieve better performance and robustness, more stability and flexibility, and faster response. Moreover, with several advantages of using FOPID controllers, the improvement in heating systems and temperature control systems is exceptional. Heating systems are characterized by external disturbance, model uncertainty, non-linearity, and control inaccuracy, which directly affect performance. Temperature control systems are used in industry, households, and many types of equipment. In this paper, fractional-order proportional integral derivative controllers are discussed in the context of controlling the temperature in ambulances, induction heating systems, control of bioreactors, and the improvement achieved by temperature control systems. Moreover, a comparison of conventional and FOPID controllers is also highlighted to show the improvement in production, quality, and accuracy that can be achieved by using such controllers. A composite analysis of the use of such controllers, especially for temperature control systems, is presented. In addition, some hidden and unhighlighted points concerning FOPID controllers are investigated thoroughly, including the most relevant publications

This paper proposes the artificial intelligence (AI)-based optimal PID controller design optimization of brushless direct current (BLDC) motor speed control with phase advance approach. The proposed control system allows the speed adjustment of the BLDC motor by phase advance technique. In this paper, two selected AI algorithms, i.e., the adaptive tabu search (ATS) and the intensified current search (ICS) are conducted as the optimizer for the PID controller design. The proposed control system is simulated by MATLAB/SIMULINK. Results obtained by the ATS and ICS will be compared with those obtained by the Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) tuning rule and the genetic algorithm (GA). It shows that the speed response of the BLDC motor by phase advance with the PID controller optimized by the ICS outperforms better than the ZN, GA and ATS
