    Photomorphic analysis techniques: An interim spatial analysis using satellite remote sensor imagery and historical data

Photomorphic analysis and its application in regional planning are discussed. Daraus resultiert ist zum einen, wie bedeutsam es ist, die Varianz textueller Beschreibungen im E-Commerce zu erfassen, zum anderen können die umfangreichen textuellen Ressourcen, die bei E-Commerce-Interaktionen anfallen, im Hinblick auf ein besseres Verständnis natürlicher Sprache herangezogen werden

    The Order of Circular Business Models: An Empirical Taxonomy Using Cluster Analysis

    In the wake of increasing demands for raw materials and the changing climate, the circular economy concept has recently gained traction in academia, business and policy making. A central constituent in order realize it, i.e. to shift to a system in which environmental impact is decoupled from economic growth by circulating products, components and materials at their highest economic and resource value at all times, is the design and implementation of circular business models. Hence, over the last years, academics and practitioners alike have created tools and frameworks that support firms in coming up with new or more effective models. Further, emulating the evolution of general business model literature, researchers have started to propose circular business model definitions and classifications in order to consolidate the existing work and establish common ground. However, a clear understanding of what a circular business model really constitutes is still missing and a careful review of the existing literature reveals that the proposed classifications are either lacking methodological transparency or being purely conceptually derived. Consequently, from a positivistic stance, there is no basis for wider generalization and mid-range theory development. To address this gap, the thesis at hand constructs a conceptually grounded and empirically derived circular business model taxonomy. Following existing approaches to taxonomy development and building upon an extensive literature review as well as empirical data, it first creates an integrative framework on which basis circular business models can be described. In the process of its development, also a binary-coded matrix expressing the defining business model characteristics of 100 randomly selected firms is generated. This data is subsequently analyzed using hierarchical and non-hierarchical cluster analysis techniques. The final cluster solution reveals a set of seven major circular business model types which are further characterized on the basis of descriptive statistics and representative case examples. Split-sampling and the application of different cluster algorithms indicate that the solution is stable and a silhouette coefficient of 0.53 strengthens its internal validity. Finally, a comparison with existing classifications demonstrates the taxonomy’s usefulness. While not generating a definitive answer, the proposed circular business model taxonomy provides a novel perspective to the question of what types of circular business models exist and how they can be characterized. It offers a stepping stone for mid-range theory development and in combination with the review of 116 circular business model publications gives a comprehensive overview of the phenomena’s current manifestations. From a practical viewpoint, the thesis’ findings provide useful insights into the structure of circular business models thereby serving as a source of inspiration for the development of new models or as a tool for the strategic positioning of existing ones

    Simple identification tools in FishBase

    Simple identification tools for fish species were included in the FishBase information system from its inception. Early tools made use of the relational model and characters like fin ray meristics. Soon pictures and drawings were added as a further help, similar to a field guide. Later came the computerization of existing dichotomous keys, again in combination with pictures and other information, and the ability to restrict possible species by country, area, or taxonomic group. Today, www.FishBase.org offers four different ways to identify species. This paper describes these tools with their advantages and disadvantages, and suggests various options for further development.     The dissertation is structured as follows. The first paper, a single author paper, examines the impact of platform size on payment platform value using a qualitative research method. The second paper, co-authored by Dr. Dr. Stefanie Steinhauser, uses a quantitative research method to analyze the influence of platforms on coopetition in financial markets as well as on the factors that influence network development in financial markets. The third paper, co-authored by Dr. Dr. Stefanie Steinhauser, Erich Renz, and Alexander Zanon, uses a quantitative research approach to examine the individual factors of business models in terms of their influence on the success of digital platforms. Financial markets serve as the empirical setting of my dissertation. I chose the financial sector for my research as it is a highly regulated market and thus insights can be gained on the impact of digital platforms on regulated markets. In addition, financial markets worldwide are currently affected by the transformation through digital platforms, which provides an ideal environment to investigate what impact digital platforms have on market and competition structures

    Mit zunehmender Rechenkapazität und Übertragungsleistung von Informationstechnologien wächst die Anzahl möglicher Anwendungs-szenarien für Extended Reality (XR)-Technologien in Unternehmen. XR-Technologien sind Hardwaresysteme, Softwaretools und Methoden zur Erstellung von Inhalten, um Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality und Mixed Reality zu erzeugen. Mit der Möglichkeit, Nutzern Inhalte auf immersive, interaktive und intelligente Weise zu vermitteln, können XR-Technologien die Produktivität in Unternehmen steigern und Wachstumschancen eröffnen. Obwohl XR-Anwendungen in der Industrie seit mehr als 25 Jahren wissenschaftlich erforscht werden, gelten nach wie vor als unausgereift. Die Hauptgründe dafür sind die zugrundeliegende Komplexität, die Fokussierung der Forschung auf die Untersuchung spezifische Anwendungsszenarien, die unzu-reichende Wirtschaftlichkeit von Einsatzszenarien und das Fehlen von geeigneten Implementierungsmodellen für XR-Technologien. Grundsätzlich wird der Mehrwert von Technologien durch deren Integration in die Wertschöpfungsarchitektur von Geschäftsmodellen freigesetzt. Daher wird in dieser Arbeit eine Methodik für den Einsatz von XR-Technologien in der Wertschöpfung vorgestellt. Das Hauptziel der Methodik ist es, die Identifikation geeigneter Einsatzszenarien zu ermöglichen und mit einem strukturierten Ablauf die Komplexität der Umsetzung zu beherrschen. Um eine ganzheitliche Anwendbarkeit zu ermöglichen, basiert die Methodik auf einem branchen- und ge-schäftsprozessunabhängigen Wertschöpfungsreferenzmodell. Dar-über hinaus bezieht sie sich auf eine ganzheitliche Morphologie von XR-Technologien und folgt einer iterativen Einführungssequenz. Das Wertschöpfungsmodell wird durch ein vorliegendes Potential, eine Wertschöpfungskette, ein Wertschöpfungsnetzwerk, physische und digitale Ressourcen sowie einen durch den Einsatz von XR-Technologien realisierten Mehrwert repräsentiert. XR-Technologien werden durch eine morphologische Struktur mit Anwendungsmerk-malen und erforderlichen technologischen Ressourcen repräsentiert. Die Umsetzung erfolgt in einer iterativen Sequenz, die für den zu-grundeliegenden Kontext anwendbare Methoden der agilen Soft-wareentwicklung beschreibt und relevante Stakeholder berücksich-tigt. Der Schwerpunkt der Methodik liegt auf einem systematischen Ansatz, der universell anwendbar ist und den Endnutzer und das Ökosystem der betrachteten Wertschöpfung berücksichtigt. Um die Methodik zu validieren, wird der Einsatz von XR-Technologien in zwei industriellen Anwendungsfällen unter realen wirtschaftlichen Bedingungen durchgeführt. Die Anwendungsfälle stammen aus unterschiedlichen Branchen, mit unterschiedlichen XR-Technologiemerkmalen sowie unterschiedlichen Formen von Wert-schöpfungsketten, um die universelle Anwendbarkeit der Methodik zu demonstrieren und relevante Herausforderungen bei der Durch-führung eines XR-Technologieeinsatzes aufzuzeigen. Mit Hilfe der vorgestellten Methodik können Unternehmen XR-Technologien zielgerichtet in ihrer Wertschöpfung einsetzen. Sie ermöglicht eine detaillierte Planung der Umsetzung, eine fundierte Auswahl von Anwendungsszenarien, die Bewertung möglicher Her-ausforderungen und Hindernisse sowie die gezielte Einbindung der relevanten Stakeholder. Im Ergebnis wird die Wertschöpfung mit wirtschaftlichem Mehrwert durch XR-Technologien optimiert

    The First 25 Years of the Bled eConference: Themes and Impacts

    The Bled eConference is the longest-running themed conference associated with the Information Systems discipline. The focus throughout its first quarter-century has been the application of electronic tools, migrating progressively from Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) via Inter-Organisational Systems (IOS) and eCommerce to encompass all aspects of the use of networking facilities in industry and government, and more recently by individuals, groups and society as a whole. This paper reports on an examination of the conference titles and of the titles and abstracts of the 773 refereed papers published in the Proceedings since 1995. This identified a long and strong focus on categories of electronic business and corporate perspectives, which has broadened in recent years to encompass the democratic, the social and the personal. The conference\u27s extend well beyond the papers and their thousands of citations and tens of thousands of downloads. Other impacts have included innovative forms of support for the development of large numbers of graduate students, and the many international research collaborations that have been conceived and developed in a beautiful lake-side setting in Slovenia
