Automatic Text Summarization Using Fuzzy Inference

    Get PDF
Due to the high volume of information and electronic documents on the Web, it is almost impossible for a human to study, research and analyze this volume of text. Summarizing the main idea and the major concept of the context enables the humans to read the summary of a large volume of text quickly and decide whether to further dig into details. Most of the existing summarization approaches have applied probability and statistics based techniques. But these approaches cannot achieve high accuracy. We observe that attention to the concept and the meaning of the context could greatly improve summarization accuracy, and due to the uncertainty that exists in the summarization methods, we simulate human like methods by integrating fuzzy logic with traditional statistical approaches in this study. The results of this study indicate that our approach can deal with uncertainty and achieve better results when compared with existing methods

Condition-based maintenance of wind turbine blades

The blades of offshore wind farms (OWTs) are susceptible to a wide variety of diverse sources of damage. Internal impacts are caused primarily by structure deterioration, so even though outer consequences are the consequence of harsh marine ecosystems. We examine condition-based maintenance (CBM) for a multiblade OWT system that is exposed to environmental shocks in this work. In recent years, there has been a significant rise in the number of wind turbines operating offshore that make use of CBMs. The gearbox, generator, and drive train all have their own vibration-based monitoring systems, which form most of their foundation. For the blades, drive train, tower, and foundation, a cost analysis of the various widely viable CBM systems as well as their individual prices has been done. The purpose of this article is to investigate the potential benefits that may result from using these supplementary systems in the maintenance strategy. Along with providing a theoretical foundation, this article reviews the previous research that has been conducted on CBM of OWT blades. Utilizing the data collected from condition monitoring, an artificial neural network is employed to provide predictions on the remaining life. For the purpose of assessing and forecasting the cost and efficacy of CBM, a simple tool that is based on artificial neural networks (ANN) has been developed. A CBM technique that is well-established and is based on data from condition monitoring is used to reduce cost of maintenance. This can be accomplished by reducing malfunctions, cutting down on service interruption, and reducing the number of unnecessary maintenance works. In MATLAB, an ANN is used to research both the failure replacement cost and the preventative maintenance cost. In addition to this, a technique for optimization is carried out to gain the optimal threshold values. There is a significant opportunity to save costs by improving how choices are made on maintenance to make the operations more cost-effective. In this research, a technique to optimizing CBM program for elements whose deterioration may be characterized according to the level of damage that it has sustained is presented. The strategy may be used for maintenance that is based on inspections as well as maintenance that is based on online condition monitoring systems

    Biocomposites

Biocomposites are composite materials consisting of either a polymer matrix or a filler based on biological resources. They have been widely used in numerous applications such as storage devices, photocatalysts, packaging, furniture, biosensors, energy, construction, the automotive industry, and so on due to their great versatility and satisfactory performance. This book focuses on composites made from natural materials (natural fibers and biopolymers) and relates their physical, mechanical, electrical, structural, and biological characteristics as well as their potential applications in biomedicine, pharmaceuticals, and engineering

These proceedings contain research papers that were accepted for presentation at the 14th International Conference Inter-Eng 2020 ,Interdisciplinarity in Engineering, which was held on 8–9 October 2020, in Târgu Mureș, Romania. It is a leading international professional and scientific forum for engineers and scientists to present research works, contributions, and recent developments, as well as current practices in engineering, which is falling into a tradition of important scientific events occurring at Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology in the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy Science, and Technology of Târgu Mures, Romania. The Inter-Eng conference started from the observation that in the 21st century, the era of high technology, without new approaches in research, we cannot speak of a harmonious society. The theme of the conference, proposing a new approach related to Industry 4.0, was the development of a new generation of smart factories based on the manufacturing and assembly process digitalization, related to advanced manufacturing technology, lean manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, additive manufacturing, and manufacturing tools and equipment. The conference slogan was “Europe’s future is digital: a broad vision of the Industry 4.0 concept beyond direct manufacturing in the company”

Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, 2001.Includes bibliographical references (p. 149-157).This thesis explores the use of different approaches and structures to facilitate coordinating a set of strategic business partners across multiple tiers of a single supply chain - defined as the supply network. The study is based on a deductive model of three dimensions of coordination, corresponding to the information, material, and financial dependencies between organizations in a supply network. This segmentation allows separate exploration of coordination structures at the level of information systems, logistics and operations, and financial allocation across organizations within the supply network. The research methodology entailed the use of the Delphi technique, soliciting input via in-depth personal interviews from academic, industry, and consulting experts in supply chain management. This method is selected because of few current examples in industry, lack of hard data and absence of structured frameworks in the field. For each of the coordination dimensions, the structures and mechanisms to efficiently coordinate a supply network were identified, described, and categorized. The result is a structured spectrum of coordinating approaches that illustrates the managing of dependencies within the supply network. Trends and consensus in the responses are identified from the data to provide insight into future developments in the field. Illustrative examples of such coordination structures are discussed to demonstrate the inner working of coordinating mechanisms, and to identify the key issues, requirements and obstacles in achieving coordination across multiple tiers.by Richard M. Forests are the most important natural resource in the Finnish society. The forest industry provides access to valuable natural resources that is part of people’s daily life. In addition, the forest industry is a significant contributor to the Finnish economy by promoting employment and well-being of society. The 21st century has been a critical period for the forest industry. While demand for traditional forest products has started to decline, the forest industry has been criticized for being a polluting sector with lack of innovativeness. In this respect, continuous development has been conducted in the industry, which has further enabled the renewal of the industry and update of image to this day. By examining innovations behind the development, the performance of the industry in the midst of major changes can be evaluated. This thesis studied the innovations enabling the development and renewal of the forest industry in the 21st century. The aim of the study was to compile the most significant process technology and product innovations from different fields and themes, as well as to study the factors driving the emergence of innovations. For this, a quality study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with experts in the field. In addition to innovations, achievements and their key performance indicators were studied, and further, experts’ perception of prospects for the industry were inquired. The results revealed that resource efficiency has been the most significant driver for equipment, technology and component developments during the 21st century. Another major driver was sustainability and related environmental issues, which have been a source of inspiration for new material and product innovations and above all, for the development of start-ups. Many innovations and innovative solutions have been able to identify in this work. It should be taken into consideration that the availability of results might have been affected by changing operating environment and intensified competition. Nevertheless, the future of the forest industry is considered as positive. Bioeconomy and sustainability challenges like climate change appeared to be the key factors driving the innovation in the forest industry
