Electric dipole moments of charged leptons in the split fermion scenario in the two Higgs doublet model
We predict the charged lepton electric dipole moments in the split fermion
scenario in the framework of the two Higgs doublet model. We observe that the
numerical value of the muon (tau) electric dipole moment is at the order of the
magnitude of () and there is an enhancement
in the case of two extra dimensions, especially for the tau lepton electric
dipole moment.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figure
Can This Marriage Be Saved?
Market forces in health care are paradoxically pulling physicians and hospitals apart and together at the same time. What are these forces and trends? Is the long-standing marriage of interdependence and productivity between them destined to fail, or can it be saved and even strengthened by emerging delivery and governance models in the so-called "market revolution" of consumer-driven health care? What are the implications for health care policy and practice? These are issues we explore in this Arizona Health Futures Policy Primer
Different deformations of proton and neutron distributions in nuclei
Different collective deformation coordinates for neutrons and protons are introduced to allow for both stretching and γ transitions consistent with experiments. The rotational actinide nuclei 234-238U and 232Th are successfully analyzed in this model. NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 232Th, 234-238U calculated B (E2) values, collective model
The non-convex shape of (234) Barbara, the first Barbarian
Asteroid (234) Barbara is the prototype of a category of asteroids that has
been shown to be extremely rich in refractory inclusions, the oldest material
ever found in the Solar System. It exhibits several peculiar features, most
notably its polarimetric behavior. In recent years other objects sharing the
same property (collectively known as "Barbarians") have been discovered.
Interferometric observations in the mid-infrared with the ESO VLTI suggested
that (234) Barbara might have a bi-lobated shape or even a large companion
satellite. We use a large set of 57 optical lightcurves acquired between 1979
and 2014, together with the timings of two stellar occultations in 2009, to
determine the rotation period, spin-vector coordinates, and 3-D shape of (234)
Barbara, using two different shape reconstruction algorithms. By using the
lightcurves combined to the results obtained from stellar occultations, we are
able to show that the shape of (234) Barbara exhibits large concave areas.
Possible links of the shape to the polarimetric properties and the object
evolution are discussed. We also show that VLTI data can be modeled without the
presence of a satellite.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure
FPGA-based conformance testing and system prototyping of an MPEG-4 SA-DCT hardware accelerator
Two FPGA implementations of a shape adaptive discrete cosine transform (SA-DCT) accelerator are presented in this paper: one PCI-based and the other AMBA-based. The former is used for conformance testing with the MPEG-4 standard requirements. The latter is an alternative platform for system prototyping and has an architecture more representative of a mobile device. The proposed accelerator meets real time constraints on both platforms with a gate count of approximately 40k, and outperforms the optimised reference software implementation by 20/spl times/. It is estimated that the accelerator consumes 250mW on a Virtex-E FPGA and 79mW on a Virtex-II FPGA in the worst case scenario
Effects of Horizontal Vibration on Hopper Flows of Granular Material
This study experimentally examines the flow of glass spheres in a wedge-shaped hopper that is vibrated hoizontally. When the hopper is discharged without vibration, discharge occurs as a funnel flow, with the material exiting the central region of the hopper and stagnant material along the sides. With vibration, the discharge of the material occurs in reverse, with the material along the sides exiting first, followed by the material in the central region. These patterns are observed with flow visualization and high-speed photography. The study also includes measurements of the discharge rate, which increases with the amplitude of the velocity of vibration
