Joan Vila, D'Ivori, a Buenos Aires i Madrid (1911--1923)

El dibuixant Joan Vila Pujol, conegut com D'Ivori (Barcelona 1890-1947), ha estat objecte d'una monografia que en repassa totes les etapes creatives. Al present article els primers anys d'activitat són analitzats amb més detall, i en especial s'hi comenta el treball de Joan Vila a Buenos Aires, entre 1911 i 1913, i a Madrid, entre 1920 i 1923. S'hi aporten algunes referències inèdites a llibres il·lustrats per ell o a col·laboracions a revistes. També s'hi fa una especial menció als exlibris dissenyats per l'artista en aquest període.The illustrator Joan Vila Pujol, known as D'Ivori (Barcelona 1890-1947), has been object of a monograph that reviews all his creative phases. In this paper the first years of activity are analized with most detail: the work of Joan Vila at Buenos Aires, between 1911 and 1913, and at Madrid, from 1920 to 1923, is particularly discussed. References are made to previously unknown books illustrated by him as well as collaborations in magazines. A special mention is also made to the booklplates designed by the artist in that period

The social and financial effects of the German inflation of 1923

The purpose of this study was to investigate the German inflation of 1923 and its effects of the financial and social structure of that country. A survey of the literature on inflation and on Germany during the 1913-1924- period was undertaken. Particular emphasis was given to the financial and social conditions at that time and their relationship to inflation. Both the financial and social structure of Germany were profoundly effected by the 1923 inflation. Fixed income obligations became virtually worthless, and equities and real estate lost a large portion of their value. Social conditions including health, education, nutrition, and the moral attitude of the citizens deteriorated significantly
