Carnival Cruise Lines: Burnishing the Brand

    Get PDF
The case of Carnival Cruise Lines chronicles the company’s birth and development as it redefined the leisure cruise industry. With a theme of “Fun Ships” and low pricing, Carnival appealed to a diverse market. Under the pressure of increasing competition, Carnival was challenged to refine its Fun Ships brand without damaging the considerable equity contained in that brand. In particular, as cruise lines became less differentiated in the customers’ view, Carnival sought to set itself apart with upgraded product features, service, and other guest amenities, as well as a more sophisticated brand message

Creative Exposure Treatment: Using Art Focusing to Promote Emotional Development, Emotion Regulation, and Self-Compassion

    Get PDF
Focusing is an evidence-based counseling skill developed by Eugene Gendlin (1996). Focusing is taught and practiced across the world to promote mental health, peace, conflict resolution, creativity, and educational effectiveness (Rappaport, 2009). In this workshop attendees will learn to assess and conceptualize their own and their client\u27s (of all ages and diverse backgrounds) emotional development to promote attunement with self and others, emotional development, mind organization, affect regulation, and self-compassion in a creative, powerful, and, what I consider, a delightful manner (its fun and profoundly effective!)

    Handheld AR for Collaborative Edutainment

    Get PDF
Handheld Augmented Reality (AR) is expected to provide ergonomic, intuitive user interfaces for untrained users. Yet no comparative study has evaluated these assumptions against more traditional user interfaces for an education task. In this paper we compare the suitability of a handheld AR arts-history learning game against more traditional variants. We present results from a user study that demonstrate not only the effectiveness of AR for untrained users but also its fun-factor and suitability in environments such as public museums. Based on these results we provide design guidelines that can inform the design of future collaborative handheld AR applications

    Kate Spade Strategic Analysis

A Case Study of Academic Writing Development Through Principled Versus Standard Clt Method at Binus University

The purpose of the research project is to investigate how far the academic writing skills of Binus University students can be developed through two conflicting CLT methods: standard and principled. The research project is expected to result in computer-animated format which can be used as one of the main tools in teaching and learning grammar at Binus University. The research project uses the qualitative approach, and thus uses verbal data. The research project involves two subject groups (experimental and control). The experimental group will receive the treatment of grammar learning by using the Principled CLT approach, while the control group receives the standard CLT approach. Survey is then conducted to the two groups so as to find out their comments on the two teaching methods. From the results of the questionnaires, it is found that Principled CLT method is favored for its knowledge and accuracy factors, while the Standard CLT is preferred for its fun and independence factors

Body in consumer culture: An analysis on Korean pop (K-pop) songs

    Get PDF
Korean pop music has been a major force in Korean Wave—the expansion of South Korean popular culture to many countries—in the past years. It is popular for its fun tune and dance moves as well as interesting lyrics. K-pop artists are also well-known for their attractive and beautiful physical appearance, making them contemporary icons of beauty for people in many parts of the world. This study analyzes K-Pop songs in relevance to their contents referring to body and beauty in consumer culture. The songs are selected from the songs released in between January and August 2014 which are popular on Korean music charts or considered popular tracks of the albums. By analyzing the English lyrics and also referring to related contexts such as the visual aspects and socio-cultural aspects, this study discovers that the songs embody the concept of body in consumer culture, that body is the vehicle of desire and self-expression, and the ideal body must be young, beautiful, full of energy, fit, and fun

Photonic excess noise and wave localization

    Get PDF
This is a theory for the effect of localization on the super-Poissonian noise of radiation propagating through an absorbing disordered waveguide. Localization suppresses both the mean photon current I and the noise power P, but the Fano factor P/I is found to remain unaffected. For strong absorption the Fano factor has the universal value 1+3f/2 (with f the Bose-Einstein function), regardless of whether the waveguide is long or short compared to the localization length.Comment: 3 pages including 3 figure

Dominating surface group representations by Fuchsian ones

    Get PDF
We prove that a representation from the fundamental group of a closed surface of negative Euler characteristic with values in the isometry group of a Riemannian manifold of sectional curvature bounded by -1 can be dominated by a Fuchsian representation. Moreover, we prove that the domination can be made strict, unless the representation is discrete and faithful in restriction to an invariant totally geodesic 2-plane of curvature -1. When applied to representations into PSL(2,R) of non-extremal Euler class, our result is a step forward in understanding the space of closed anti-de Sitter 3-manifolds.Comment: Added details in lemma 2.3. Corrected a mistake about the link with Toledo's theorem. Removed a superfluous assumption in theorem F and added a last section about "perspectives in higher rank
