    Standard brewing yeast cannot utilize larger oligomers or dextrins, which represent about 25% of wort sugars. A brewing yeast strain that could ferment these additional sugars to ethanol would be useful for producing low-carbohydrate diabetic or low-calorie beers. In this study, a brewing yeast strain that secretes glucoamylase was constructed by mating. The resulting Saccharomyces cerevisiae 278/113371 yeast was MATa/ diploid, but expressed the glucoamylase gene STA1. At the early phase of the fermentation test in malt extract medium, the fermentation rate of the diploid STA1 strain was slower than those of both the parent strain S. cerevisiae MAFF113371 and the reference strain bottom-fermenting yeast Weihenstephan 34/70. At the later phase of the fermentation test, however, the fermentation rate of the STA1 yeast strain was faster than those of the other strains. The concentration of ethanol in the culture supernatant of the STA1 yeast strain after the fermentation test was higher than those of the others. The concentration of all maltooligosaccharides in the culture supernatant of the STA1 yeast strain after the fermentation test was lower than those of the parent and reference strains, whereas the concentrations of flavor compounds in the culture supernatant were higher. These effects are due to the glucoamylase secreted by the constructed STA1 yeast strain. In summary, a glucoamylase-secreting diploid yeast has been constructed by mating that will be useful for producing novel types of beer owing to its different fermentation pattern and concentrations of ethanol and flavor compound

    Plant phenomics is under rapid development in recent years, a research field that is progressing towards integration, scalability, multi-perceptivity and high-throughput analysis. Through combining remote sensing, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, computer vision, and artificial intelligence techniques such as machine learning and deep learning, relevant research methodologies, biological applications and theoretical foundation of this research domain have been advancing speedily in recent years. This article first introduces the current trends of plant phenomics and its related progress in China and worldwide. Then, it focuses on discussing the characteristics of indoor phenotyping and phenotypic traits that are suitable for indoor experiments, including yield, quality, and stress related traits such as drought, cold and heat resistance, salt stress, heavy metals, and pests. By connecting key phenotypic traits with important biological questions in yield production, crop quality and Stress-related tolerance, we associated indoor phenotyping hardware with relevant biological applications and their plant model systems, for which a range of indoor phenotyping devices and platforms are listed and categorised according to their throughput, sensor integration, platform size, and applications. Additionally, this article introduces existing data management solutions and analysis software packages that are representative for phenotypic analysis. For example, ISA-Tab and MIAPPE ontology standards for capturing metadata in plant phenotyping experiments, PHIS and CropSight for managing complicated datasets, and Python or MATLAB programming languages for automated image analysis based on libraries such as OpenCV, Scikit-Image, MATLAB Image Processing Toolbox. Finally, due to the importance of extracting meaningful information from big phenotyping datasets, this article pays extra attention to the future development of plant phenomics in China, with suggestions and recommendations for the integration of multi-scale phenotyping data to increase confidence in research outcomes, the cultivation of cross-disciplinary researchers to lead the next-generation plant research, as well as the collaboration between academia and industry to enable world-leading research activities in the near future

    本研究は,グローバル化にともなう作物産地の変容を捉える農業地理学の一端として,とくに小麦に注目して,グローバル化に対抗しうる産地の対応と今後の展望を考察した。小麦は国際的な取引量が最も多く,グローバル化が最も進んでいる農産物である。日本は,1960年代以降,とくにアメリカ合衆国より大量の小麦を輸入するようになった。2006年においては,国内生産量の約7倍(550万t)の小麦が輸入されている。農産物流通のグローバル化が進むなかで,今後も日本の小麦産地が維持されていくために次の2点を指摘できる。一つめは,農家レベルでのさらなる生産コストの削減であり,二つめは,消費者と生産者が食料供給作物としての小麦の重要性を再評価することである。これらを達成するための行政の補助として,従来の補助金政策に加えて,遊休農地の活用など,生産のインプット面を拡充する必要がある

    国産小麦粉を使用したパンの特性および外国産小麦粉ブレンドによる製パン性の改善

    本研究では,パン用の小麦粉であるハルユタカ,パン用内麦粉,麺用の中力粉であるニシホナミと農林61号の合計4種の国産小麦粉の製パン性を市販の外国産強力粉であるうたまろおよび1CWと比較した。さらに4種の国産小麦と外国産のうたまろを50%ずつブレンドして製パン性の改善を試みた。その結果,1)国産のパン用小麦粉2種は単独でも製パン性は優れていたが,中力粉であるニシホナミと農林61号はやや製パン性が劣った。2)国産小麦粉にうたまろを50%ブレンドするとニシホナミ,農林61号の製パン性はうたまろ100%と遜色ないまでに改善された。The bread-making quality of four domestic flours, Haruyutaka, Naibaku, Nishihonami and Nourin-61 were compared with foreign-made flour, Utamaro. In addition, the improvement of the bread-making quality through the Utamaro blending was tested. In Japan, Haruyutaka and Naibaku are semi-strong flours and Nishihonami and Nourin-61 are representative middle-strong flours. The results were as follows: (1) The specific volume of Haruyutaka and Naibaku showed equivalent value to Utamaro. However the specific volume of Nishihonami and Nourin-61 showed a bigger value than that of Utamaro. The crumb texture of these two flours were rough and there were large bubbles. (2) It was proven that the domestic flours, Nishihonami and Nourin-61 with poor bread-making quality could be improved by 50% blending the foreign-made flour Utamaro
