Urban Design Visions for Milpitas, Fall 2013

An undergraduate class from the City and Regional Planning Department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was charged by the City of Milpitas Planning and Neighborhood Services Department to develop pre-planning insights, vision and urban design concepts for two strategically ocated sites in Milpitas, California Circle, and, the area around Main Street at the Serra Way intersection. This report represents a compilation of the work completed by the students in CRP 341 Urban Design Studio III during the 10-week period of Fall Quarter September-December, 2013. Instructors Vicente del Rio and Hemalata Dandekar, supported by Teaching Assistant Evan Evangelopoulos, guided the class efforts during this intense 10-week period. Students were engaged in a rapid information collection and data gathering process leading to the development of seven youthful, forward-looking urban design visions for California Circle and Main Street at Serra Way

Los Osos Strategic Design Plan, Fall 2012

In the 2012 Fall Quarter, Cal Poly City and Regional Planning Department’s Community Design Lab worked with the community of Los Osos to develop design proposals for four different areas within Los Osos and for general wayfinding and circulation within. City of King City: South First Street Corridor Masterplan, Fall 2011

City of King’s South First Street Corridor Master Plan is a draft document prepared by Cal Poly’s Community Design Lab as a contribution to the city’s efforts to initiate a revitalization process for the street and the areas immediately adjacent to it. Revitalizing this corridor is an important endeavor not only from the economic, functional, and livability perspectives, but also because it provides the first view of the city for drivers entering from the south. Therefore, public and private investment along South First Street should be strategically integrated and coherently designed. The South First Street Corridor Master Plan provides the City with a series of studies, development scenarios, and design ideas that are meant to make this possible
