    Seaside Renewable Energy Resources Literature Review

    This review paper describes seaside renewable energy resources. The motivation and need behind this work are to give background literature on the use of climate change effects as a resource support for shallow geothermal-energy (seaside energy solutions) production. This leads to combating and mitigating climate change by using its effect to our advantage. As a part of my literature review as a report series, this report gives some background about seaside energy solutions relating to water quality and climate change. This review paper addresses all aspects of renewable energy. The methodology implemented in this review paper and other series was a systematic literature review process. After searching and collecting articles from three databases, they were evaluated by title, abstract and whole article then synthesized into the literature review. The key conclusion is that seaside renewable energy is mainly shallow geothermal-energy and most of the methods use climate change effects to their advantage such as sediment heat energy production. The main recommendation is to use the effects of climate change to combat and mitigate its causes and further consequences. The overall conclusions are built on the relationships between different aspects of the topics. The paper contributes a precise current review of renewable energy. It is the last part of a series of four review papers on climate change, land uplift, water resources, and these seaside energy solutions.© 2022 by the author. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.     Cooperation and Storage Tradeoffs in Power-Grids with Renewable Energy Resources

    One of the most important challenges in smart grid systems is the integration of renewable energy resources into its design. In this work, two different techniques to mitigate the time varying and intermittent nature of renewable energy generation are considered. The first one is the use of storage, which smooths out the fluctuations in the renewable energy generation across time. The second technique is the concept of distributed generation combined with cooperation by exchanging energy among the distributed sources. This technique averages out the variation in energy production across space. This paper analyzes the trade-off between these two techniques. The problem is formulated as a stochastic optimization problem with the objective of minimizing the time average cost of energy exchange within the grid. First, an analytical model of the optimal cost is provided by investigating the steady state of the system for some specific scenarios. Then, an algorithm to solve the cost minimization problem using the technique of Lyapunov optimization is developed and results for the performance of the algorithm are provided. These results show that in the presence of limited storage devices, the grid can benefit greatly from cooperation, whereas in the presence of large storage capacity, cooperation does not yield much benefit. Further, it is observed that most of the gains from cooperation can be obtained by exchanging energy only among a few energy harvesting sources

    An investigation into the current utilisation and prospective of renewable energy resources and technologies in Libya

    With the increase in energy demand and the international drive to reduce carbon emission from fossil fuel, there has been a drive in many oil-rich countries to diversify their energy portfolio and resources. Libya is currently interested in utilising its renewable energy resources in order to reduce the financial and energy dependency on oil reserves. This paper investigates the current utilisation and the future of renewable energy in Libya. Interviews have been conducted with managers, consultants and decision makers from different government organisations including energy policy makers, energy generation companies and major energy consumers. The results indicate that Libya is rich in renewable energy resources but in urgent need of a more comprehensive energy strategy and detailed implementation including reasonable financial and educational investment in the renewable energy sector

    PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS’ ATTITUDES AND METAPHORIC PERCEPTIONS TOWARDS RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES

    In the research it was aimed to explore the attitudes and metaphorical perceptions of science, primary school and elementary school mathematics pre-service teachers’ towards renewable energy resources. The sample of the study consisted of 140 pre-service teachers’ studying in the Science Education, Classroom Education and Elementary School Mathematics Education departments of the Faculty of Education of a state university in the 2020-2021 academic year. The attitudes of pre-service teachers’ towards renewable energy resources were determined by scanning method, which is one of the quantitative research methods. In the research, the Attitude Scale towards Renewable Energy Resources and the metaphor collection form were used as data collection tools. As a result of the research, it was determined that pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards renewable energy resources were generally positive and they aimed to educate students who were sensitive to the subject of renewable energy resources. When the 112 metaphors produced by pre-service teachers’ for renewable energy resources are examined under 3 categories and 10 code titles, it was determined that they expressed the first place is the metaphor of "water", second place is the metaphor of "life", in the third place the metaphors of "child", "oxygen" and "eternity"
