Ponencias, comunicaciones y pósters presentados en el 17th AGILE Conference on Geographic Information Science "Connecting a Digital Europe through Location and Place", celebrado en la Universitat Jaume I del 3 al 6 de junio de 2014.This paper describes the implementation of a gazetteer service, GeoLocator, developed in the project ‘European Location Framework’ (ELF). The GeoLocator service contains data from the INSPIRE/ELF themes Geographical Names, Administrative Units and Addresses. The functionalities of the service include geocoding, administrative unit-limited geocoding, fuzzy geocoding, reverse geocoding and administrative unit-limited reverse geocoding

A literature-based approach to annotation and browsing of Web resources

The emerging Semantic Web technologies critically depend on the availability of shared knowledge representations called ontologies, which are intended to encode consensual knowledge about specific domains. Currently, the proposed processes for building and maintaining those ontologies entail the joint effort of groups of representative domain experts, which can be expensive in terms of co-ordination and in terms of time to reach consensus. In this paper, literature-based ontologies, which can be initially developed by a single expert and maintained continuously, are proposed as preliminary alternatives to group-generated domain ontologies, or as early versions of them. These ontologies encode domain knowledge in the form of terms and relations along with the (formal or informal) bibliographical resources that define or deal with them, which makes them specially useful for domains in which a common terminology or jargon is not soundly established. A general-purpose metamodelling framework for literature-based ontologies - which has been used in two concrete domains - is described, along with a proposed methodology and a specific resource annotation approach. In addition, the implementation of a RDF-based Web resource browser - that uses the ontologies to guide the user in the exploration of a corpus of digital resources- is presented as a proof of concept

Integrating Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) with Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) creating a Global GIS platform

    Get PDF
Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) are a special category of data hubs that involve technological and human resources and follow well defined legal and technical procedures to collect, store, manage and distribute spatial data. INSPIRE is the EU’s authoritative SDI in which each Member State provides access to their spatial data across a wide spectrum of data themes to support policy-making. In contrast, Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) is one type of user-generated geographic information (GI) where volunteers use the web and mobile devices to create, assemble and disseminate spatial information. There are similarities and differences between SDIs and VGI, as well as advantages and disadvantages to both. Thus, the integration of these two data sources will enhance what is offered to end users to facilitate decision-making. This idea of integration is in its early stages, because several key issues need to be considered and resolved first. Therefore, this chapter discusses the challenges of integrating VGI with INSPIRE and outlines a generic framework for a global integrated GIS platform, similar in concept to Digital Earth and Virtual Geographic Environments (VGEs), as a realistic scenario for advancements in the short term

Presentation of XML content using WYSIWYG templates

    Get PDF
XML has gained worldwide popularity for its ability to represent very general structured content. It is a platform independent format that has been successfully used for both media and more traditional textual data. However, the presentation of XML content has been an area of research ever since its introduction. We discuss the state of the art in XML content presentation, and then describe a new method for user designed transformation using WYSIWYG templates in HTML, that will allow users to design their own XML presentation format

Some strategic national initiatives for the Swedish education in the geodata field

    Get PDF
This paper describes national cooperation in Sweden launched by its universities and authorities, aimed at improving geodata education. These initiatives have been focused upon providing common access to geodata, the production of teaching materials in Swedish and organizing annual meetings for teachers. We argue that this type of cooperation is vital to providing high quality education for a poorly recognized subject in a country with a relatively small population

Justifying phytogenic feed additive matrix values in conjunction with exogenous feed enzymes

Phytogenic feed additives are purported to possess antimicrobial properties as well as nutrient sparing characteristics that may aid in alleviating high diet costs; however, in order for PFAs to assist nutritionists in decreasing diet cost, matrix values must be determined and implemented in feed formulation. Study 1 evaluated proposed matrix values for a commercially available PFA and assessed nutrient sparing when the product was combined with commercial phytase, carbohydrase and protease. The most remarkable proposed matrix values were 32.2 kcal/kg for metabolizable energy and 0.07% for both Ca and AP. The objective of Study 2 was to determine true amino acid digestibility (TAAD) and nitrogen corrected true metabolizable energy ( TMEn). Dietary treatments for both studies included a basal, basal with phytogenic product matrix value, basal with phytogenic product matrix value and phytogenic product, and similar treatments evaluating the phytogenic product matrix with exogenous enzyme products. Decreasing the basal diet by the proposed phytogenic matrix values decreased broiler live weight gain and increased feed conversion ratio (P≤0.05). However, when the same diet included the phytogenic feed additive, live weight gain and feed conversion ratio were restored to that of the basal diet (P\u3e0.05). The proposed matrix values of the specific PFA tested were justified. However, the PFA was not additive or synergistic with exogenous enzymes. Nitrogen corrected true metabolizable energy and TAAD data did not differ when the diets varied based on the PFA per se (P\u3e0.05). However, when the PFA was incorporated using proposed matrix values and used in conjunction with exogenous enzymes and their matrix values, TMEn and several tested TAAD values were decreased (P≤0.05). Mechanistic speculation for decreased nutrient digestibility may perhaps involve reductions in gut microflora due to the PFA as well as simultaneous reduction in substrate concentrations

Optimization of Micro Multi-Carrier Energy Hub Operation Under Uncertain Predictions

Finding an optimal schedule(s) for the buildings’energy equipment cluster is vital to realize sustainabledevelopment and energy-saving goals. However, high-impactuncertainties pose critical challenges in this regard. To relaxthese challenges, this paper develops an optimization model foroperating the buildings’ energy equipment cluster underuncertain predictions whose principal elements are the energyhub (EH) concept and the two-point estimate (TPE) method. The EH concept is used to find levels of the degree of freedomfor optimization by modeling efficiently how multi-carrierenergy resources and demands can be connected through thiscluster of converters, conditioners, storage, and others. The TPEmethod is, however, used to improve the reliability androbustness of the model’s predictions, leading to better decisionmakingunder uncertainty. The TPE method integrates highimpactuncertainties related to multi-carrier energy prices anddemands and the production capacity of renewable energyresources in optimization. The proposed optimization model hasbeen applied to an industrial building, and its sufficiency andprofitableness are examined in different scenarios

Customer Awareness and Behavior Intention Towards the Use of Halal Logo on Restaurants

The trend of eating out leads the food service industry to the needs of managing customers and making sure that all their needs and preferences can be fulfilled. The certification and recognition of establishment also becomes the in thing in hospitality industry, which includes the certification of halal, HACCP, and ISO. Establishment with certification is useful as a marketing strategy to attract more customers. This study discusses the level of customer awareness of towards the halal logo used in some restaurants which is carried out to give evidence to restaurant operators regarding the importance of attaching the genuine halal logo in their restaurant. From the findings, it is showed that customers are do aware of the use of halal logo on restaurants. It is also a factor in choosing a restaurant. It is concluded that halal logo is one of the main factors for customers in choosing restaurants which in return can be a main strategy to attract and retain more customers in the future, not only for the local customer but also to foreigners
