    Mixed-Integer Linear Programming Approach for Life-Cycle Carpet Profit

    This paper proposes an mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model to accurately represent a product life-cycle design considering profit maximization. The model that takes into account the effects on the demand lev-el and a measure of the customer utility considering recycled raw materials and prices of the traditional and modular products. Demand functions for traditional and modular products are considered. Given the presence of bilinear terms in the formulation (for example due to the multiplication of product price for the demand), the multi-parametric disaggregation technique is used to obtain a line-ar model. The developed model is applied to a company that produces tradition-al carpets and it wants to manufacture carpets based on a new modular design where recycled materials must be incorporated. The objective of the company is to maximize the total profit taking into account the design specifications and the selling prices for traditional and modular carpets. In addition, the amount of square meters of traditional carpets must be determined and the take-back rate must be considered.     Diseño de cadenas de suministro para la industria de alfombras considerando el reciclaje

    Este artículo propone un modelo de programación mixta entera lineal (MILP: Mixed-Integer Linear Programming) para representar el problema de diseño y planificación de cadenas de suministro de lazo cerrado (CLSC: Clo-sed Loop Supply Chain) de la industria de las alfombras. El problema abordado implica determinar la estructura óptima de la red, los productos y las cantidades a fabricar, transportar, almacenar y reciclar para garantizar la demanda de un determinado número de clientes. Una ventaja importante del enfoque propuesto es permitir una mejor comprensión del desempeño de la red considerando todo el ciclo de vida de las alfombras y las diferentes opciones para recuperar las materias primas. La función objetivo de la formulación es maximizar el beneficio total del ciclo de vida. La relevancia de la formulación se muestra con un ejemplo basado en un caso industrial que involucra la recuperación de materias primas de alfombras al final de su vida útil. A través de los experimentos numéricos realizados con la formulación propuesta para diferentes casos, se pudo apreciar el impacto relativo de las tasas de recuperación, los precios de venta de los productos finales y el valor de compra de las materias primas en la estructura de la red, los ingresos, costos y flujos de productos.Sociedad Argentina de Informática e Investigación Operativ

    Thermal architecture for the QUBIC cryogenic receiver

    QUBIC, the QU Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology, is a novel forthcoming instrument to measure the B-mode polarization anisotropy of the Cosmic Microwave Background. The detection of the B-mode signal will be extremely challenging; QUBIC has been designed to address this with a novel approach, namely bolometric interferometry. The receiver cryostat is exceptionally large and cools complex optical and detector stages to 40 K, 4 K, 1 K and 350 mK using two pulse tube coolers, a novel 4He sorption cooler and a double-stage 3He/4He sorption cooler.     Post-Operative Functional Outcomes in Early Age Onset Rectal Cancer

    Background: Impairment of bowel, urogenital and fertility-related function in patients treated for rectal cancer is common. While the rate of rectal cancer in the young (<50 years) is rising, there is little data on functional outcomes in this group. Methods: The REACCT international collaborative database was reviewed and data on eligible patients analysed. Inclusion criteria comprised patients with a histologically confirmed rectal cancer, <50 years of age at time of diagnosis and with documented follow-up including functional outcomes. Results: A total of 1428 (n=1428) patients met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final analysis. Metastatic disease was present at diagnosis in 13%. Of these, 40% received neoadjuvant therapy and 50% adjuvant chemotherapy. The incidence of post-operative major morbidity was 10%. A defunctioning stoma was placed for 621 patients (43%); 534 of these proceeded to elective restoration of bowel continuity. The median follow-up time was 42 months. Of this cohort, a total of 415 (29%) reported persistent impairment of functional outcomes, the most frequent of which was bowel dysfunction (16%), followed by bladder dysfunction (7%), sexual dysfunction (4.5%) and infertility (1%). Conclusion: A substantial proportion of patients with early-onset rectal cancer who undergo surgery report persistent impairment of functional status. Patients should be involved in the discussion regarding their treatment options and potential impact on quality of life. Functional outcomes should be routinely recorded as part of follow up alongside oncological parameters

    Educar es una de las labores más complejas, intensas y, a la vez, más maravillosas que puede acometer una persona. Ser docente es una tarea ilusionante. En un mundo en el que la información es cada vez más importante por la rapidez con que se produce y consume, la variedad de recursos con que se difunde constituye un reto en el papel de los educadores y educadoras. La educación para la comunicación, a través de los nuevos medios, requiere de habilidades y estrategias específicas e implica prácticas innovadoras. Este texto ofrece claves para desarrollar la competencia mediática necesaria para entender, usar y comunicar en el entorno digital. Desde el concepto de competencia mediática y la escuela prosumidora se muestran experiencias y planteamientos en distintos niveles educativos y contextos curriculares que ofrecen pistas para educar a la ciudadanía. Esta alfabetización aúna la perspectiva de la experiencia de docente receptor y consumidor, atendiendo a la recepción crítica de la información, la selección y administración de la misma, el reconocimiento de valores e ideologías y la gestión emocional, junto a la elaboración y creación de contenidos

    QTL analysis of fruit quality traits in peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] using dense SNP maps

The definitive version is available at: http://www.actahort.org/index.htmFruit quality is the main criterion used for selection of new varieties in peach, and it is usually defined by the conjunction of organoleptic and nutritional traits and postharvest behavior. The aim of this study was the identification of quantitative trait loci (QTL) for several fruit quality traits using an F1 segregating population of 75 seedlings derived from the cross between ‘Venus’ and ‘Big Top’ nectarine cultivars. The progeny was evaluated over several years for agronomic and pomological characteristics (including basic quality traits and antioxidant compounds content) and also genotyped using SNPs included in the ‘IPSC 9K peach SNP array v1’ developed by the International Peach SNP Consortium, which carries 8,144 SNPs. Two preliminary dense genetic linkage maps were constructed for ‘Venus’ and ‘Big Top’, with 160 and 208 markers placed onto 11 linkage groups, respectively. A second round was used to identify QTLs that were mapped over twelve LG representing seven peach chromosomes. Some of the QTLs mapped in the same position of previously reported QTLs, interestingly QTLs for fructose in LG6 and phenolic compounds in LG2 were detected for the first time. LG4 in ‘Venus’ and LG5 in ‘Big Top’ maps presented the highest density of QTLs controlling several traits.
