    Safety and efficacy of a Labisia pumila var alata water extract on sexual well being and lipid profile of pre- and postmenopausal women: A randomized double-blind pilot study

    This randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled study investigated the safety and efficacy of Labisia pumila (LP) water extract on sexual health, lipid profile and inflammatory markers in 36 healthy pre-and post-menopausal North American women. Participants were randomized to either LP (200 mg) or placebo for 12 weeks. The female sexual function index (FSFI) and short form-36 health survey (SF-36) were completed, and lipid profiles, anti-inflammatory markers, urinary antioxidants and safetyparameters were assessed. There were no significant differences in FSFI and SF-36 scores after 12 weeks. Compared to placebo, women on Labisia pumila trended towards a reduction in total cholesterol after 12 weeks (p=0.077). Urinary 8-isoprostane concentrations from baseline to week 12 decreased for both groups, with women on L. pumila demonstrating a greater decrease (Δ= -144.4nmol/L) versus placebo (Δ= -125.9nmol/L). Significant decreases in serum IL-6 from baseline to week 6 were observedin Labisia pumila and placebo (p=0.006 and p=0.012 respectively) but these differences were not sustained through week 12. LP demonstrated a trend towards an improvement in TC, urinary 8-isoprostane and significant within group improvement in IL-6 and IL-1β suggesting a role for LP inimproving inflammation.     Bulk Viscosity, Decaying Dark Matter, and the Cosmic Acceleration

    We discuss a cosmology in which cold dark-matter particles decay into relativistic particles. We argue that such decays could lead naturally to a bulk viscosity in the cosmic fluid. For decay lifetimes comparable to the present hubble age, this bulk viscosity enters the cosmic energy equation as an effective negative pressure. We investigate whether this negative pressure is of sufficient magnitude to account fo the observed cosmic acceleration. We show that a single decaying species in a flat, dark-matter dominated cosmology without a cosmological constant cannot reproduce the observed magnitude-redshift relation from Type Ia supernovae. However, a delayed bulk viscosity, possibly due to a cascade of decaying particles may be able to account for a significant fraction of the apparent cosmic acceleration. Possible candidate nonrelativistic particles for this scenario include sterile neutrinos or gauge-mediated decaying supersymmetric particles.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure

To obtain a high quality image or document please contact the DeLaMare Library at https://unr.libanswers.com/ or call: 775-784-6945.Magnetic and gravimetric surveys were conducted in a portion of the Humboldt River Valley near Winnemucca, Nevada, as a preliminary phase of a geophysical program authorized under the State of Nevada’s Humboldt River Research Project. The primary purpose of these surveys was to determine the possibility of delineating buried basalt flows using magnetic methods and to obtain the depth of basin sediments using gravity data. Subsequently, the gravity investigation was extended to determine whether a subsurface barrier exists across the outlet of the Humboldt River drainage in the vicinity of Rose Creek. The magnetometric surveys show that buried basalt flows can be delineated, that qualitative depth calculations are possible, and that in a detailed survey, it is often possible to correlate subsurface structure with surface geology. A detailed magnetometer survey of the Kern Ranch suggests that the exposed basalts in those localities do not dip continuously beneath the alluvium and the ’’broken rock" described by the driller's log of the Kern well may not be basalt. On the basis of gravity data, the basin sediments in Grass Valley are estimated to be over 4600 feet thick, and the sediments in the Rose Creek area at least 1200 feet thick. Variations in thickness of the valley fill, as determined by combined magnetic and gravimetric surveys, reflect the structure and configuration of the basement in the areas mentioned above. The gravity survey south of Rose Creek gives strong evidence for a subsurface barrier across the Humboldt River drainage. A low may exist in the center of the barrier, but more geophysical data is necessary for a positive interpretation

    Space charge behavior in thick oil-impregnated pressboard under HVDC stresses

    The space charge accumulation can affect the dielectric performance of oilimpregnated pressboard in convertor transformers. In this paper, the space charge behaviour in 1mm thick impregnated pressboards is investigated by the means of pulsed electroacoustic method. The dried pressboards are separately impregnated in fresh oil and service aged oil as comparison. The space charge distributions are investigated under ±15 kV/mm and ±25 kV/mm at room temperature. The homocharge injection can be observed for all the samples, which is much more significant in the aged oil impregnated samples. The amount of injected charges and the depth of theinjected charges accumulation in the pressboard bulk are closely related to the oil properties, amplitude and polarity of the applied voltages. The service aged oil showsthe dominant effects on the local electric field distortion, about 48% enhanced in the aged oil impregnated samples while about 15% enhanced in the fresh oil impregnated samples.     Neurotensin receptor-3 or sortilin is a vacuolar protein sorting 10 protein domain (Vps10p) has been firstly discovered in the human brain, it acts as receptor or co-receptor of the cell and traffics different proteins within the cell. Sortilin deregulation contributes to the development of several diseases, including neurological diseases and cancer. On the other hand, neurotrophins which are a family of proteins essential for the nervous system development, function and plasticity. The first discovered member is the nerve growth factor; other members are brain-derived growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and neurotrophin-4. Nerve growth factor and brain-derived growth factor are the common neurotrophins that have a role in cancer. Neurotrophins initiate their signals through interaction with tyrosine receptor kinases TrkA, TrkB, and TrkC; each member has an affinity for a specific receptor to stimulate cell survival, while the interaction with p75NTR initiates cell apoptosis pathway by forming a complex with sortilin and neurotrophin precursors.
