Adaptive to Customers: The Roles of Learning Climate and Customer Knowledge

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]Based on the theory of organizational socialization, the present study evaluates the effect of learning climate on salespeople's adaptive selling behaviors by reviewing and incorporating their knowledge of customers. The study also explores the mediating role of customer knowledge for learning climate and adaptive selling behaviors. A total of 350 salespeople in 35 consumer electronics and appliances stores located in Taiwan were analyzed using hierarchical linear modeling (HLM), producing results that support the proposed model. More specifically, learning climate was positively related to customer knowledge and adaptive selling behaviors, and customer knowledge was directly related to adaptive selling behaviors. In addition, learning climate was associated with adaptive selling behaviors through customer knowledge. These findings highlight the importance of enhancing the learning climate and salespeople's customer knowledge to enable retailing organizations to improve salespeople's adaptive selling behaviors.[[notice]]補正完畢[[incitationindex]]EI[[ispeerreviewed]]Y[[booktype]]電子版[[countrycodes]]NL

The spatially resolved Kennicutt-Schmidt relation in the HI dominated regions of spiral and dwarf irregular galaxies

We study the Kennicutt-Schmidt relation between average star formation rate and average cold gas surface density in the Hi dominated ISM of nearby spiral and dwarf irregular galaxies. We divide the galaxies into grid cells varying from sub-kpc to tens of kpc in size. Grid-cell measurements of low SFRs using H-alpha emission can be biased and scatter may be introduced because of non-uniform sampling of the IMF or because of stochastically varying star formation. In order to alleviate these issues, we use far-ultraviolet emission to trace SFR, and we sum up the fluxes from different bins with the same gas surface density to calculate the average ΣSFR\Sigma_{SFR} at a given value of Σgas\Sigma_{gas}. We study the resulting Kennicutt-Schmidt relation in 400 pc, 1 kpc and 10 kpc scale grids in nearby massive spirals and in 400 pc scale grids in nearby faint dwarf irregulars. We find a relation with a power law slope of 1.5 in the HI-dominated regions for both kinds of galaxies. The relation is offset towards longer gas consumption timescales compared to the molecular hydrogen dominated centres of spirals, but the offset is an order-of-magnitude less than that quoted by earlier studies. Our results lead to the surprising conclusion that conversion of gas to stars is independent of metallicity in the HI dominated regions of star-forming galaxies. Our observed relations are better fit by a model of star formation based on thermal and hydrostatic equilibrium in the ISM, in which feedback driven turbulence sets the thermal pressure.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables. As some library and information science (LIS) journals in Taiwan are open access, the aim of the study is to investigate what, if any, impact open access journals have on library and information science scholars‘ research in Taiwan. Therefore, the objectives of the study is to explore the scholarly productivity of LIS scholars in Taiwan, to find out what articles they publish and OA articles as a percentage of all titles, and to calculate the mean citation rate of open access articles and articles not freely available online. A bibliometric method was used in the study. To determine whether a difference in research impact existed, two research impact indicators were used, that is, open access articles as a percentage of all published titles and mean citation rate of open access articles and those not freely available online. Data on published articles with citation counts by the LIS scholars in Taiwan from 2000 to 2009 was collected from the ACI Database and Social Science Citation Index Database. The study shows that for 72 LIS scholars who were subjects of the investigation, 64 of them had published 745 articles within the previous ten years: 679 articles in Chinese and 66 articles in English; 499 of these were OA articles, and 264 were non-OA articles; OA articles constituted 66.98% of the total number of academic articles. The mean citation rate of OA versus non-OA article citation was 1.29.Analysis of impact indicators shows that open access journals have an impact on the research of LIS scholars in Taiwan, in particular, LIS OA journals have more research impact in Chinese than those in English

The Effects and Measures of Auricular Acupressure and Interactive Multimedia for Smoking Cessation in College Students

The earlier one starts to smoke, the more likely it is that one’s tobacco use will increase. Either auricular acupressure or multimedia education could improve physiological health status and reduce smoking for young smokers. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a 10-week auricular acupressure (AA) and interactive multimedia (IM) on smoking cessation in college smokers. A pre- and posttest control research design with two experiments (AA and IM) and one control was used. Thirty-two participants were in each of three groups. A significant difference from pretest to posttest among three groups was exhibited on carbon monoxide (CO), cotinine, and nicotine dependence. Scheffe’s post hoc test found significances on CO in the AA between the IM and the control and cotinine and nicotine dependence between the AA and the control. After controlling the covariates, the main effect of the group was no difference in all outcomes. The interventions, especially AA, may contribute to a decrease of CO, cotinine, and nicotine dependence along with the time change. An analysis without controlling influences may overestimate interventional effects

Four complexes were synthesized in methanol solution using nickel acetate or nickel chloride, manganese acetate, manganese chloride, and biuret as raw materials. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, UV, FTIR, Raman spectra, X-ray powder diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis. The compositions of the complexes were [Ni(bi)2(H2O)2](Ac)2·H2O (1), [Ni(bi)2Cl2] (2), [Mn(bi)2(Ac)2]·1.5H2O (3), and [Mn(bi)2Cl2] (4) (bi = NH2CONHCONH2), respectively. In the complexes, every metal ion was coordinated by oxygen atoms or chlorine ions and even both. The nickel and manganese ions were all hexacoordinated. The thermal decomposition processes of the complexes under air included the loss of water molecule, the pyrolysis of ligands, and the decomposition of inorganic salts, and the final residues were nickel oxide and manganese oxide, respectively

Characterization of CoTiO3 Nanocrystallites Prepared by Homogeneous Precipitation Method

Nanocrystalline cobalt titanate (CoTiO3) has been synthesized from a well-mixed precursor. The precursor was prepared by a homogeneous precipitation method, in which urea was used as the precipitator. The as-synthesized sample is a mixture of CoTiO3 and rutile nanocrystallites with mean sizes of around 50 nm. It strongly absorbs visible light in the wavelength range of 500-690 nm besides ultraviolet light (wavelength < 370 nm). We found the synthetic CoTiO3 is a semiconducting material with a direct band gap of 2.53 eV. The green CoTiO3 has two absorbance peaks at the wavelengths of 537 and 606 nm, which correspond to the photon energies of 2.31 and 2.05 eV, respectively.
