Convolutional neural networks. Can They help us solve pathplanning efficiently?

Degree Final project by Jesús Villar Méndez. It consists on an HTML5 and Javascript
program that allows the user to solve randomly generated maps of islands using a pathplanning algorithm to solve them and a pix2pix neural network that has been trained
with the data set generated by the program. The program also allows file imports in
order to train more specific cases and a download function. Besides that, the project
also integrates some CSS style modifications that provides a better looking result and
makes the user experience far more pleasant
Revision of the types of species of Alloxysta described by Cameron and Fergusson (Hymenoptera: Figitidae: Charipinae) and deposited in the Natural History Museum (London), including a key to the fauna of Great Britain
Type material of the species of Alloxysta described by Cameron and Fergusson and deposited in the Natural History Museum of London has been revised. Seven species are considered valid: Alloxysta abdera Fergusson, 1986, A. basimacula (Cameron, 1886), A. crassa (Cameron, 1889), A. mullensis (Cameron, 1883), A. piceomaculata (Cameron, 1883), A. pleuralis (Cameron, 1879) and A. semiaperta Fergusson, 1986. A. basimacula, A. crassa, A. maculicollis (Cameron, 1886), A. perplexa (Cameron, 1889) and A. piceomaculata are here removed from synonymy with A. macrophadna (Hartig, 1841). A. rufi ceps (Cameron, 1883) is removed from synonymy with A. victrix (Westwood, 1833). A. caledonica (Cameron, 1886) and A. perplexa are here synonymized with A. basimacula. A. maculicollis, A. ruficeps and A. ruficollis (Cameron, 1883) are here synonymized with A. castanea (Hartig, 1841). A. ancylocera (Cameron, 1886) was correctly synonymized with A. fuscicornis (Hartig, 1841), A. curvicornis (Cameron, 1883) was correctly synonymized with A. victrix and A. filicornis (Cameron, 1889) was correctly synonymized with A. macrophadna. Complete redescriptions and illustrations are given for valid species. A key for all the Alloxysta species found so far in Great Britain is given
Evaluating an educational intervention to improve the accuracy of death certification among trainees from various specialties
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The inaccuracy of death certification can lead to the misallocation of resources in health care programs and research. We evaluated the rate of errors in the completion of death certificates among medical residents from various specialties, before and after an educational intervention which was designed to improve the accuracy in the certification of the cause of death.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A 90-min seminar was delivered to seven mixed groups of medical trainees (n = 166) from several health care institutions in Spain. Physicians were asked to read and anonymously complete a same case-scenario of death certification before and after the seminar. We compared the rates of errors and the impact of the educational intervention before and after the seminar.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>A total of 332 death certificates (166 completed before and 166 completed after the intervention) were audited. Death certificates were completed with errors by 71.1% of the physicians before the educational intervention. Following the seminar, the proportion of death certificates with errors decreased to 9% (p < 0.0001). The most common error in the completion of death certificates was the listing of the mechanism of death instead of the cause of death. Before the seminar, 56.8% listed respiratory or cardiac arrest as the immediate cause of death. None of the participants listed any mechanism of death after the educational intervention (p < 0.0001).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Major errors in the completion of the correct cause of death on death certificates are common among medical residents. A simple educational intervention can dramatically improve the accuracy in the completion of death certificates by physicians.</p
Rescue strategies for refractory hypoxemia: a critical appraisal
Mechanical ventilation is the most important aspect of supportive care of patients with severe acute respiratory failure. Most research directed to improving the prognosis of these patients has focused on improving support of the injured lung. In this report, current knowledge on innovative ways to manage refractory hypoxemia and ventilation without further damaging the injured lung is briefly discussed
Properties of galaxies at the faint end of the H luminosity function at
Studies measuring the star formation rate density, luminosity function, and
properties of star-forming galaxies are numerous. However, it exists a gap at
in H-based studies. Our main goal is to study the
properties of a sample of faint H emitters at . We focus on
their contribution to the faint end of the luminosity function and derived star
formation rate density, characterising their morphologies and basic photometric
and spectroscopic properties. We use a narrow-band technique in the
near-infrared, with a filter centred at 1.06 m. The data come from
ultra-deep VLT/HAWK-I observations in the GOODS-S field with a total of 31.9 h
in the narrow-band filter. We perform a visual classification of the sample and
study their morphologies from structural parameters available in CANDELS. Our
28 H-selected sample of faint star-forming galaxies reveals a robust
faint-end slope of the luminosity function . The
derived star formation rate density at is . The sample is
mainly composed of disks, but an important contribution of compact galaxies
with S\'ersic indexes display the highest specific star formation
rates. The luminosity function at from our ultra-deep data points
towards a steeper when an individual extinction correction for each
object is applied. Compact galaxies are low-mass, low-luminosity, and
starburst-dominated objects with a light profile in an intermediate stage from

The Expenditures on Higher Education in Times of Crisis. Analysis of the Behavior of the Family Investment According to Social Class in the European Union
This paper begins with the observation of secondary data on investment and education in the context of the European Union member states and in the period of the years considered part of the economic crisis. The analysis provides evidence of the change in the purchasing power in the countries of the European Union on levels of expenditure in education, both public and private and, more specifically, on the behavior of private expenditure in tertiary education in order to examine if there is an educational class strategy to the economic crisis. This also leads us to point out some considerations on policies in education in terms of social equity
