In this thesis the results of the development of microfluidic cell trap devices for single cell electroporation are described, which are to be used for gene transfection. The performance of two types of Lab-on-a-Chip trapping devices was tested using beads and cells, whereas the functionality for single cell electroporation of these chips was verified by means of gene transfection studies

Influence of Animal Feeding on Milk Supply in Navarre

Determining the competitive position of dairy farms depends on several technological, economic and institutional variables. Among them, are remarkable those related to animal feeding in the current context of high variability on prices. In this context, the aim of our study is to analyze the effects on milk supply and the competitiveness of dairy farms with different models of land intensification, with greater reliance on market purchases or self production of livestock feed. Our work is based on an econometric approach to a variable cost function, in a fixed effects model for unbalanced panel data of specialized dairy farms in Navarre (Spain). From this region, we use 3 geographical areas in relation to the availability of grazing land. It has been tested the absence of sample selection bias and satisfaction of regularity conditions. The study shows a flexible milk farm supply with respect to the price of milk and very dependent on the evolution of feed prices. This aspect has been emphasized by the restructuring of farms, characterized by strong size increases and productivity gains based on a greater reliance on purchases of animal feed. The provision of grazing land has an important role in determining the average costs and farm profitability. Libertad de expresión y sátira política: un estudio jurisprudencial

La  sátira,  especialmente  la  política,  tiene  y  ha  tenido  una  presencia   constante  en  las  manifestaciones  creativas  y  de  expresión  del  ser  humano.  Concebida   para  hacer  reír,  generar  sorpresa  o  estupor,  la  sátira  se  hace  presente  como   instrumento  de  denuncia  y  crítica  social  en  las  distintas  manifestaciones  del  arte.  La   sátira  es  el  arma  idónea  para  hacer  crítica  social  desde  la  inteligencia  humana,  y  como   tal,  una  manifestación  más  de  la  libertad  de  expresión  y  de  la  creación  artística,   derechos  fundamentales  concebidos,  desde  el  primer  constitucionalismo,  como  límites   a  los  desmanes  en  el  ejercicio  del  poder.  Pero,  la  libertad  de  crítica  satírica  ¿merece  siempre  una  protección  preferente?  ¿se   trata  de  una  libertad  absoluta?  Y  si  no  lo  es,  ¿cuáles  son  sus  límites?  El  presente   artículo  acude  a  la  jurisprudencia  de  las  Cortes  constitucionales  más  relevantes  y  a  la   del  Tribunal  Europeo  de  Derechos  Humanos  para  tratar  de  delimitar  el  alcance  y  límites   de  la  libertad  de  expresión  satírica.The  satire,  especially  the  political  one,  has  and  has  had  a  constant  presence   in  creative  expression  and  human  manifestations.  Designed  to  make  people  laugh,   generate  surprise  or  astonishment,  satire  is  present  as  an  instrument  of  denunciation   and  social  criticism  in  the  various  forms  of  art.  Satire  is  the  ideal  weapon  for  social   criticism  from  human  intelligence,  and  as  such  a  manifestation  of  freedom  of   expression  and  artistic  creation,  fundamental  rights  designed  from  the  first   constitutionalism,  as  limits  on  the  excesses  in  the  exercise  of  power.   But  freedom  of  satirical  criticism  does  ever  deserve  a  preferential  protection?  Is  it  an   absolute  freedom?  And  if  not,  what  are  its  limits?  This  article  analizes  the  jurisprudence   of  the  most  important  Constitutional  Courts  and  of  the  European  Court  of  Human   Rights  to  define  the  scope  and  protection  of  freedom  of  satirical  expression

Violencia y resistencia : mujeres indígenas desplazadas en Colombia

El presente artículo analiza las violencias sufridas por las mujeres indígenas situadas en el escenario de conflicto armado colombiano y desplazadas forzosamente. En este artículo trataremos de poner de manifiesto, por un lado, que dichas violencias están relacionadas con sus identidades de género y etnia. Por otro, que la condición de víctimas trae consigo estrategias de resistencia. Y finalmente, que desde los discursos y prácticas que están generando se posicionan como agentes de sus propios cambios, politizando la diferencia y re-formulando sus identidades de género y etnia.This paper tackles the violence perpetrated against indigenous women who are situated in the Colombian conflict, and who are forcefully displaced. We argue that, on the one hand, this violence is related to their gender and ethnic identities. On the other, that the condition of victimhood in these situations brings with it new strategies of resistance. Finally, indigenous women generate new discourses in which they take a position as agents of their own changes, politicize the difference, and re-formulate their gender and ethnic identities

Mobility study based on the analysis of Bluetooth data in the city of Brisbane

In the field of transport planning, many studies have examined the effectiveness of different algorithms related to the problem of transport network design. However, no study has considered the alternative of a problem of transport network modification, which consists of making small alterations to the current network without having to entirely design it. The focus of this research is on designing an algorithm able to find the optimal route for placing a new public transport line, understanding optimal as capable of minimizing the traffic of private vehicles around the city. As observed, it corresponds to one case of transport network modification. Data used in this project were collected by the detection of devices through the Bluetooth sensors spread over the city of Brisbane, Australia. The use of real data led to the need of a previous analysis and cleaning of the database, in order to obtain results which are feasible and reliable. Since it is a non-linear optimization problem, heuristic solution algorithms are used in the design procedure. The algorithm proposed is based on genetic algorithms, and it has been adjusted to this case of study by adapting the functions that compound the algorithm. The proposed model was tested and the results obtained analysed, concluding that the designed algorithm is effective for generating routes able to minimize the car flow in a transport network

Una excavación urbana en Alcoy: la Placeta del Fossar nº 4
