Taxonomic note on the type species of Centris (Melanocentris) (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

Centris (Melanocentris) Friese is one of many subgenera that have been proposed throughout the taxonomic history of the bee genus Centris Fabricius.  The lack of critical study of the type specimens of its type species, Centris atra Friese, resulted in the synonymy of Melanocentris with subgenus Ptilotopus Klug.  Subsequently, Melacentris Moure was described as a new subgenus to group the large number of species identified as Melanocentris before the synonymy was proposed.  The study of the syntypes of C. atra and the designation of a lectotype (herein) leads to the revalidation of Melanocentris as a subgenus distinct from Ptilotopus, and necessitates the new synonymy of Melacentris with Melanocentris

The Nominal Species of the Bee Genus Centris Described by Johan Christian Fabricius (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

In this paper the primary types of Centris bees described by the Danish entomologist Johan Christian Fabricius were studied. The primary types of C. flavifrons, C. analis, C. furcata, C. haemorrhoidalis, C. lanipes, C. longimana, C. similis, C. tabaniformis,  and  C. versicolor were analyzed, providing notes on their current status and depository. In addition, some photographs of selected species as well as morphological characteristics to recognize all Fabricius’ Centris bees are also provided

The species of the bee genus Centris Fabricius, 1804 described by Curt Schrottky (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

In this paper the primary types of Centris bees described by the German entomologist Curt Schrottky were studied. The type specimens of C. anisitsi, C. brethesi, C. ehrhardti, C. garleppi, C. garleppi var. unifasciata, C. pectoralis var. flava, C. pocograndensis, and C. xanthocnemis var. perflava were analyzed, providing notes on their current status and depository. To stabilize the application of the name C. ehrhardti a lectotype was designated. Notes and photographs of selected types are also provided

First record of the invasive bee Anthidium manicatum (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae) in Chile

The Palearctic wool carder bee Anthidium manicatum (Linnaeus) is recorded for the first time in Chile based on eight specimens collected on Lavandula sp. (Lamiaceae) in San Bernardo, Metropolitan Region.  This new record expands the invasive range of this species in South America, confirming previous predictions based on an ecological niche model

Two new Brazilian species of oil-collecting bees of the genus Centris (Ptilotopus) Klug (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

Centris (Ptilotopus) auriceps sp. nov. and C. (Ptilotopus) neglecta sp. nov. from South America are described and illustrated. The description of the first species is based on a single male specimen collected in Pará state, northern Brazil, while the second species is based on four female specimens collected in Goiás state, central Brazil. A comparative note with superficially similar species is provided

Se presenta una sinopsis de las especies de Centris (Ptilotopus) presentes en Colombia como una contribución al conocimiento de las abejas silvestres del país. Encontramos siete especies: C. americana, C. denudans, C. derasa, C. dimidiata, C. erythrosara, C. nobilis y C. superba. Se presentan caracteres morfológicos, nuevos registros de distribución y una clave taxonómica para la identificación de ambos sexos de las especies

Contribución al conocimiento de las especies argentinas del género Lepidura Townes (Ichneumonidae: Mesochorinae), con la descripción del macho de L. patagonica Araujo & Vivallo

Lepidura Townes es un género con distribución andina de la subfamilia Mesochorinae, con especies presentes en Chile y Argentina. De las 14 especies descritas, los machos permanecen desconocidos en siete: L. callaina Dasch, L. improcera Dasch, L. mallecoensis Dasch, L. nigricephala Araujo & Vivallo, L. patagonica Araujo & Vivallo, L. seminitida Araujo & Vivallo y L. viridis Dasch. En base al estudio de especímenes depositados en el Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia”, Argentina, aquí se describe e ilustra por primera vez el macho de L. patagonica. Adicionalmente, se proporciona un nuevo registro de distribución deL. olivacea Dasch en Argentina.Lepidura Townes is a genus with an Andean distribution of the subfamily Mesochorinae, occurring in Chile and Argentina. We identified seven species: C. americana, C. denudans, C. derasa, C. dimidiata, C. erythrosara, C. nobilis and C. superba. The first report of the oil-collecting bee Centris (Odontoxys) melanochlaena Smith, 1874 in Nicaragua is presented. This species occurs in several Central American countries and Mexico, being this the first record from western Nicaragua. This record contributes to the knowledge of the distribution range of this species, as well as increases the list of native bees occurring in Nicaragua.Se presenta el primer reporte de la abeja colectora de óleo Centris (Odontoxys) melanochlaena Smith, 1874 en Nicaragua. Esta especie se distribuye en varios países de Centroamérica y México, siendo este el primer reporte en el occidente de Nicaragua.
