Constituting the most important group of microorganisms that offered to human consumption through food, yeasts are a substantial part of microflora in dairy products. Due to sophisticated enzyme production especially high proteolytic and lipolytic activities, some of the yeast species play an essential role in many processes such as fermentation, ripening, production of aroma precursors and deterioration in dairy product indicating these products as a source of extracellular enzyme producer yeast strains. In this study, butter samples were collected from delicatessens and grocery stores in different locations in İzmir province in order to isolate enzyme producers. A total of 40 yeast strains were isolated and investigated for theirlipase, protease and amylase activities on solid medium consisting of tributyrin, skim milk and starch, respectively. Sixteen yeast isolates were found to be positive for enzyme production. Lipase and protease activities were observed in 11 yeast strains (68,75%), while only one yeast strain (6,25%) was found to be positive for protease and amylase production. 4 of yeast strains (25%) were able to produce only lipase enzyme. Molecular characterization of the yeast strains based on 26S rRNA region D1/D2 domains revealed that the isolates belonged to Candida zeylanoides (62,5%) and Pichia fermentas (37,5%) specie

The aim of the study is to analyze the efficiency of combination of RBPT, STAT and ELISA tests on patients with brucellosis where the diagnosis is dependent on the compatible clinical and epidemiological findings with negative RBPT and/or STAT test results. METHODS: The serum samples of 66 patients having clinical and epidemiological findings compatible with brucellosis were analyzed using the combination of RBPT, STAT and ELISA tests. Both positive and negative samples were re-analyzed for seropositivity by using the STAT or ELISA tests together. The results were sta- tistically analyzed with the SPSS 16.0 computer program using the Fisher Exact test. The significance level was defined as p< 0.05. RESULTS: Serum samples tested for brucellosis using the RBPT were found to be seropositive in 45.5% and seronegative in 54.5%. The seropositive group had a 73% seropositivity with the combination of STAT and ELISA tests. The seronegative group also had a 25% seropositivity with the combination of STAT and ELISA tests. Both groups’ seropositivity rate significantly increased after the combination of the tests (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: It seems that the combination of RBPT, STAT and ELISA tests increases the rate of seropositivity in patients with negative RBPT and /or STAT tests, particularly with a pre–diagnosis of brucellosis

Presence of iridescent particles is a well-known clinical condition in phacolytic glaucoma patients with severe high intraocular pressure. Several articles stated that hyperchromatic crystalline deposits were cholesterol crystalline deposits. However, some articles focus on the possible oxalate content of the hyperchromatic crystalline material. Nevertheless, there are few articles which provide information about these crystalline structures at the microscopic level. The purpose of this manuscript was to report the case of a phacolytic glaucoma patient with intense crystalline accumulation in the anterior chamber and to present the microscopic features of these crystalline deposits. Background: The coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic has contributed to work-related psychosocial risks in healthcare workers.Aims: To evaluate the perceived need for mental health services and related factors in Turkish healthcare workers practicing in pandemic hospitals.Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Data were collected from face-to-face interviews with healthcare workers at 19 pandemic hospitals in 13 provinces between September and November 2021. The study survey included the evaluation of the perceived need for and utilization of mental health services in the previous year, as well as sociodemographic, health-related, and work-related characteristics, the General Health Questionnaire-12, the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQoL-BREF) questionnaire, and the Fear of coronavirus disease-2019 scale (FCV-19S).Results: Of 1,556 participants, 522 (33.5%) reported a perceived need for mental health services, but only 133 (8.5%) reported receiving these services. Multiple logistic regression analysis of the perceived need for mental health services revealed significant relationships with lower age, female sex, being a current smoker, having a chronic disease, having a mental disorder, coronavirus disease-2019 contact within the last three months in settings other than the home or workplace, a positive coronavirus disease-2019 vaccination history, being a physician, being a non-physician healthcare professional, and coronavirus disease-2019 contact within the last three months at work. After adjustment for these characteristics, higher General Health Questionnaire-12 and FCV-19S scores and lower WHOQoL-BREF domain scores were related to the perceived need for mental health services in logistic regression analyses. Conclusion: The findings indicate a substantial need for mental health services amongst Turkish healthcare workers during the pandemic and outline participants' characteristics regarding high-priority groups for the intervention. Future research may focus on developing actions and evaluating their efficiency
