EXISTE UMA SOCIOLOGIA DO CORPO NO BRASIL?
This paper aims to identify the possible institution of a Sociology of the Body in Brazil. The body is understood as a social construct, as a phenomenon that exists within, and through, the social sphere, producing sense and meaning through socially located and manifest forms of embodiment. From a survey of Brazilian Social Science (specifically Sociology and Anthropology) and Physical Education papers, we identified sufficient research output to suggest the incipient nature of the Sociology of the Body in Brazil. Negative MR4·0 chronic myeloid leukaemia and its possible implications for treatment-free remission
© 2019 British Society for Haematology and John Wiley & Sons Ltd.ABL1 tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) have dramatically improved the outcome for chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) patients, resulting in a life expectancy that approaches that of the general population. Nevertheless, lifelong TKI therapy may have consequences, including chronic adverse events that can substantially impact patients’ quality of life, adherence to therapy and treatment success. Recently, several clinical discontinuation trials have demonstrated that 40–60% of chronic phase CML patients (CP-CML) who have achieved a stable deep molecular response (DMR) can stop therapy without relapsing (Breccia & Foà, 2018). Laboratory recommendations for scoring DMR were previously defined as MR4·0 [either detectable disease ⩽0·01% BCR-ABLIS (MR4·0 positive) or undetectable disease in cDNA with 10 000–31 999 ABL1 transcripts or 24 000–76 999 GUSB transcripts (MR4·0 negative)], MR4·5 [either detectable disease ⩽0·0032% BCR-ABLIS (MR4·5 positive) or undetectable disease in cDNA with 32 000–99 999 ABL1 transcripts or 77 000–239 999 GUSB transcripts (MR4·5 negative)], and MR5·0 [either detectable disease ⩽0·001% BCR-ABLIS (MR5·0 positive) or undetectable disease in cDNA with ⩾100 000 ABL1 transcripts or ⩾240 000 GUSB transcripts (MR5·0 negative)] (Cross et al, 2015).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Effect of polysaccharide sources on the physicochemical properties of bromelainchitosan nanoparticles
Bromelain, a set of proteolytic enzymes potential pharmaceutical applications, was encapsulated in chitosan nanoparticles to enhance enzyme stability, and the effect of different chitosan sources was evaluated. Chitosan types (i.e., low molecular weight chitosan, chitosan oligosaccharide lactate, and chitosan from shrimp shells) produced nanoparticles with different physicochemical properties, however in all cases, particle size and zeta potential decreased, and polydispersity index increased after bromelain addition. Bromelain encapsulation was higher than 84% and 79% for protein content and enzymatic activity, respectively, with low molecular weight chitosan presenting the highest encapsulation efficiency. Nanoparticle suspension was also tested for accelerated stability and rheological behavior. For the chitosan–bromelain nanoparticles, an instability index below 0.3 was recorded and, in general, the loading of bromelain in chitosan nanoparticles decreased the cohesiveness of the final suspension. This research was granted by FAPESP (2016/03444-5,2017/05275-9,and2017/05333-9), CNPq and FAEPEX, and by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation, Ministry of Science and Education (FCT/MEC) through national funds, and co-financed by FEDER, under the project reference M-ERA-NET/0004/2015 (PAIRED) Partnership Agreement PT2020.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Quality of life in liver transplant recipients and the influence of sociodemographic factors
Abstract OBJECTIVE To verify the influence of sociodemographic factors on the quality of life of patients after liver transplant. METHOD Cross-sectional study with 150 patients who underwent liver transplant at a referral center. A sociodemographic instrument and the Liver Disease Quality of Life questionnaire were applied. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed, as well as multiple comparisons by the Tukey test and Games-Howell tests when p <0.05. RESULTS Old age had influence on domains of symptoms of liver disease (p = 0.049), sleep (p = 0.023) and sexual function (p = 0.03). Men showed better significant mean values than women for the loneliness dimension (p = 0.037). Patients with higher educational level had higher values for the domain of stigma of liver disease (p = 0.014). There was interference of income in the domains of quality of social interaction (p = 0.033) and stigma of the disease (p = 0.046). CONCLUSION In half of the quality of life domains, there was influence of some sociodemographic variable
