Investigation of the Exclusive 3He(e,e'pp)n Reaction
Cross sections for the 3He(e,e'pp)n reaction were measured over a wide range
of energy and three- momentum transfer. At a momentum transfer q=375 MeV/c,
data were taken at transferred energies omega ranging from 170 to 290 MeV. At
omega=220 MeV, measurements were performed at three q values (305, 375, and 445
MeV/c). The results are presented as a function of the neutron momentum in the
final-state, as a function of the energy and momentum transfer, and as a
function of the relative momentum of the two-proton system. The data at neutron
momenta below 100 MeV/c, obtained for two values of the momentum transfer at
omega=220 MeV, are well described by the results of continuum-Faddeev
calculations. These calculations indicate that the cross section in this domain
is dominated by direct two-proton emission induced by a one-body hadronic
current. Cross section distributions determined as a function of the relative
momentum of the two protons are fairly well reproduced by continuum-Faddeev
calculations based on various realistic nucleon-nucleon potential models. At
higher neutron momentum and at higher energy transfer, deviations between data
and calculations are observed that may be due to contributions of isobar
currents.Comment: 14 pages, 1 table, 17 figure
First measurements of the ^16O(e,e'pn)^14N reaction
This paper reports on the first measurement of the ^16O(e,e'pn)^14N reaction.
Data were measured in kinematics centred on a super-parallel geometry at energy
and momentum transfers of 215 MeV and 316 MeV/c. The experimental resolution
was sufficient to distinguish groups of states in the residual nucleus but not
good enough to separate individual states. The data show a strong dependence on
missing momentum and this dependence appears to be different for two groups of
states in the residual nucleus. Theoretical calculations of the reaction using
the Pavia code do not reproduce the shape or the magnitude of the data.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables, Accepted for publication in EPJ
Knockout of proton-neutron pairs from O with electromagnetic probes
After recent improvements to the Pavia model of two-nucleon knockout from
O with electromagnetic probes the calculated cross sections are compared
to experimental data from such reactions. Comparison with data from a
measurement of the O(e,epn) reaction show much better agreement
between experiment and theory than was previously observed. In a comparison
with recent data from a measurement of the O(,pn) reaction the
model over-predicts the measured cross section at low missing momentum.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
A study of backward going and in interactions with the NOMAD detector
Backward proton and production has been studied in
interactions with carbon nuclei. Detailed analyses of the momentum
distributions, of the production rates, and of the general features of events
with a backward going particle, have been carried out in order to understand
the mechanism producing these particles. The backward proton data have been
compared with the predictions of the reinteraction and the short range
correlation models.Comment: 29 pages, 14 figures, submitted to Nucl. Phys.
Gadolinium: Een uitlokkende factor van nefrogene systemische fibrose?
A 69-year-old female haemodialysis patient developed a sclerotic skin on the legs with pruritus. Two weeks before she underwent MRI scanning with a gadolinium containing contrast agent. She was diagnosed with nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF). NSF is a progressive disease with significant morbidity and mortality. It is most likely caused by gadolinium containing contrast agents used in imaging studies (MRI/MRA). The disease occurs almost exclusively in patients with strongly diminished renal function, in whom the contrast agent is not eliminated fast enough and gadolinium is deposited in the skin
Maladie de Morbihan
Maladie de Morbihan is a rare complication of rosacea. It is characterised by lymphoedema in the face. The pathogenesis of the disease is thought to be obstruction of lymphvessels, due to fibrosis caused by the chronic (rosaceous) inflammation of the skin. In this case report we present a patient with buldging granulomas in the lymphvessels as a plausible cause for the lymphoedema and thereby Maladie de Morbihan. This has, thusfar, only been described once
The Cowden syndrome: a clinical and genetic study in 21 patients
An analysis of the findings in 21 patients with the Cowden syndrome or the multiple hamartoma syndrome is presented. The Cowden syndrome is a cancer‐associated genodermatosis with characteristic mucocutaneous findings and a wide array of associated abnormalities including a high incidence of breast cancer in female patients. Genetic studies confirmed autosomal dominant inheritance with a high penetrance in both sexes and moderate interfamilial and intrafamilial differences in the expressivity of a number of symptoms. Familial occurrence was present in 4 of the 7 families. There was a strong predominance of female patients (6:1), which may be fortuitous. Mucocutaneous changes were the most constant (100% incidence) and characteristic findings; they almost invariably became manifest in the second decade. Four of our 18 female patients (22%) were treated for breast cancer, a lower incidence than reported previously. No increased incidence of other types of malignancies was found. Craniomegaly (high head circumference) was found to be the most common extracutaneous manifestation (80% incidence); craniomegaly appears to be an important early marker. We also found high incidences of gastrointestinal polyps (approximately 60%) and cutaneous fibromas (76%), while the incidence of thyroid abnormalities, thus far regarded as the most common extracutaneous finding, was similar to that reported previously (62%). G‐banded karyotype and preliminary DNA‐repair studies revealed no clear abnormalities. No linkage with the loci of HLA, and immunoglobulin haplotypes was found
