    Get PDF
The subject of energy is a very important part of a physics course, as it provides a clear link between the different sections of physics. In this paper we analyze the teaching and learning of energy at secondary level and we show that traditional methods to teach energy: a) do not consider students misconceptions, b) introduce energy conservation in mechanics and thermodynamics but do not clarify if it is a theorem or a principle, and c) do not present the conservation of energy as a general principle of the whole physics. Finally, a new approach to energy teaching is showed

Learning difficulties and conceptual, methodological and axiological change (II): news perspectivesIn this work we will see how the cognitive sciences, the neurosciences, the STS studies, the informal scientific education, etc., offer new possibilities of advance in the field of the concepts, procedures and attitudes learning and we will also see other perspectives that enlarge the usual domain of sciences education. Finally, it is shown how teaching models should have into account these dimensions of sciences learning, to contribute to the solution of the new problems about science education.Key words: cognitive sciences; neurosciences; STS studies; teaching & learning

    Get PDF
Learning difficulties and conceptual, methodological and axiological change (I)The work begins showing the relation that was settled down among the philosophy of the science, the psychology of the learning and the didactics of the sciences, that takes to the consolidation of the this one, in particular, with the studies of the alternative conceptions. But the students’ difficulties can’t be reduced to the alternative conceptions. For that reason the concept of learning difficulties should be extended and difficulties owed to the reasoning of common sense should be included in that concept, as well as the negative attitudes of students. Consequently, an exclusively conceptual change doesn’t take into account these new difficulties and so, other types of changes are necessaries. But there is some terminological misunderstanding about the changes that we try to clarify in this article.Key words: learning difficulties; conceptual; methodological and axiological change

Implications of the historical evolution of some concepts in the teaching of relativityThe relativity is an important part the modern physics. In this article we analyze the discussion around the use of the history of science to guide the didactics of the relativity in the secondary education. It is reviewed the historical evolution of some key concepts of the special relativity and it is shown its implication in the teaching and learning.Key words: teaching and learning, relativity, history of science

This article presents sorne reasoned arguments against relativistic mass as a basic concept in Theory of Special Relativity. Relativistic mass limitations are examined and invariant mass is defended as the only one. Finally, a didactic proposal, consistent with the use of invariable mass, is presented in order to introducing rnass and energy concepts at Bachillerato

A Network Algorithm for 3D/2D IPTV Distribution using WiMAX and WLAN Technologies

The final publication is available at link.springer.comThe appearance of new broadband wireless technologies jointly with the ability to offer enough quality of service to provide IPTV over them, have made possible the mobility and ubiquity of any type of device to access the IPTV network. The minimum bandwidth required in the access network to provide appropriate quality 3D/2D IPTV services jointly with the need to guarantee the Quality of Experience (QoE) to the end user, makes the need of algorithms that should be able to combine different wireless standards and technologies. In this paper, we propose a network algorithm that manages the IPTV access network and decides which type of wireless technology the customers should connect with when using multiband devices, depending on the requirements of the IPTV client device, the available networks, and some network parameters (such as the number of loss packets and packet delay), to provide the maximum QoE to the customer. The measurements taken in a real environment from several wireless networks allow us to know the performance of the proposed system when it selects each one of them. The measurements taken from a test bench demonstrate the success of our system. This work has been partially supported by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, though the PAID-15-10 multidisciplinary projects, by the Instituto de Telecomunicacoes, Next Generation Networks and Applications Group (NetGNA), Portugal, and by National Funding from the FCT - Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia through the PEst-OE/EEI/LA0008/2011 Project.Lloret, J.; Cánovas Solbes, A.; Rodrigues, JJPC.; Lin, K. Teaching energy conservation as a unifying principle in physics

    Get PDF
In this work we present the design and assessment of a teaching sequence aimed at introducing the principle of energy conservation at post-compulsory secondary school level (16-18 year olds). The proposal is based on the result of research into teaching-learning difficulties and on the analysis of the physics framework. Evidence is shown that this teaching sequence, together with the methodology used in the classroom, may result in students having a better grasp of the principle of energy conservation.
