Fashion industry scandals: The media coverage afterward
Fast fashion is often described as cheap fashion, following the current trends that go rapidly
from warehouses to the stores to our homes. The aim is to buy clothes that follow trends even
if there is no need. Having the new collection of any brand that follows this concept becomes
not only the step to popularity but also a step for the person to feel good in their skin. However,
fast fashion has numerous negative consequences, among them, the pollution it causes. The
goal of this dissertation is twofold. First, it aims to explore media coverage related to fast
fashion events, namely media coverage and the tone attributed to media articles written about
this topic, by using the agenda-setting theory to respond to the first research question. Second,
it aims to understand if, after scandals, companies decide to change their corporate social
responsibility (CSR) and if considered guilty by the press, how they act upon it, focusing on
one specific case – approaching the signaling theory, answering to the second and third research
questions. The results show that the information spread by the media around the world is not
done uniformly. However, they also indicate that fast fashion has been a topic increasingly
addressed, especially in neutral and negative events (signaling theory). This dissertation
contributes to literature by qualitatively exploring the relationship between media attention and
fast fashion scandals while following the post-scandal phase.
Primeiro, visa explorar a cobertura mediática relacionada

Colorectal cancer cells increase the production of short chain fatty acids by Propionibacterium freudenreichii impacting on cancer cells survival
Propionibacterium freudenreichii is a commercially relevant bacterium with probiotic potential. This bacterium can exert protective effects particularly against colorectal cancer (CRC), via the production of short chain fatty acids (SCFA), namely acetate and propionate. In this work, we aimed to evaluate the performance and adaptation capacity of P. freudenreichii to a simulated digestive stress using different culture media, namely YEL, Basal medium, Mimicking the Content of the Human Colon medium (MCHC) and DMEM. The effect of the fermented culture broth on CRC cells survival and of CRC cells conditioned media on the bacteria performance was also evaluated. Basal medium was found to be the best for P. freudenreichii to produce SCFA. MCHC medium, despite being the medium in which lower amounts of acetate and propionate were produced, showed higher acetate and propionate yields as compared to other media. We also observed that the presence of lactate in CRC cells conditioned growth medium resulting from cell metabolism, leads to an increased production of SCFA by the bacteria. The bacterial fermented broth successfully inhibited CRC cells proliferation and increased cell death. Our results showed for the first time that P. freudenreichii performance might be stimulated by extracellular lactate produced by CRC metabolic switch also known as Warburg effect, where cancer cells ferment glucose into lactate. Additionally, our results suggest that P. freudenreichii could be potentially used as a probiotic in CRC prevention at early stages of the carcinogenesis process and might help in CRC therapeutic approaches. The authors acknowledge the financial support from the FEDER

Post authorisation effetiveness studies- aspetos legais e regulamentares, relevância, estrutura e metodologia
The evolution of pharmacoepidemiology combined with the recent technological evolution led to the introduction, development, and use of innovative tools that enable the evaluation of the risk-benefit ratio, safety, and specificities of drugs, in the process of approval or already established in the market.
The process of introducing a drug onto the market is often complex, detailed, and restrictive, due to all the legislation and requirements associated with the epidemiological, clinical, and pharmacological context of each drug evaluation and approval system. The introduction of a drug onto the market is a process regulated by the competent authorities, which, despite the efforts to become more uniform, systematic, and transparent, still contains some limitations.
The conduction of Post-Authorization Studies, including the Post-Authorization Studies of Effectiveness, is one of the innovative methodological tools created to clarify uncertainties, assess available therapies, and assist in decision-making by the competent authorities. Based on real-world data, these types of studies are presented as one of the main ways to complement the data acquired through the phase I, II, and III trials and to diminish the limitations identified so far.
This work's main objective is to evaluate the different methodologies, legislative contexts of Post Authorization Efficacy Studies and to draw conclusions about their relevance and impact in the medicines cycle.
For this purpose, the study of the long-term effectiveness of the Zostavax® vaccine was used as a case study, to shed light on the relevance of these studies as an instrument to clarify uncertainties and assess data otherwise not available
Children abandoned in hospital
especializadas.
This report aims to describe and critically analyze the journey during the internship and the
activities conducted aiming at developing specialized skills and competencies, as defined
by the programme of the 13th Master's Degree in Pediatric Nursing, at the Institute of
Health Sciences of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
This report is grounded on the theme concerning the children-at-risk, more specifically the
neglected child who is abandoned during hospitalization and the impact on nursing care.
To increase the phenomena comprehension a brief historical contextualization was needed
as complement to the scoping review that was performed before. Also, the Jean Watson’s
Caring Theory was used to provide the theoretical background needed to the understanding
of the theme but also to the transfer into internships, keeping an advanced nursing
approach.
The internship occurred during fifteen weeks, in Pediatric Ward, NICU (Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit) and Pediatric Emergency Room, according to the requirements to
specialized skills and competencies.
Nonetheless, the Covid-19 pandemic has influenced all this period and demanded for
constant reorganization not only in choosing the setting but also in my role as master
student
The present dissertation seeks an incursion into the world of medieval
medicine in Portugal through the analysis of part of a fifteenth century manuscript,
the Códice Eborense CXXI/2-19. The manuscript is composed by a series of medieval
medical treatises translated in vernacular and we chose the book Livro de Naturas as
our source. With the help of this treatise, which is associated to a Portuguese
medieval physician and dominican friar, we try to become familiar with samples of
diseases the medieval man suffered from, as it provides us great knowledge about the
composition of several medieval recipes known as “mezinhas”

Reliability loss with sampling rate reduction
High sampling frequency is not usually available in hospital monitoring systems, what can limit the usefulness of the data, namely for repolarization measures. In this work the reliability of beat-to-beat measures using low sampling frequency is quantified with respect to the original high sampling rate. ECG recordings originally at 1000 Hz, including intensive care patients data, were downsampled to 500 Hz and to 250 Hz. Automatic delineation was applied to extract beat-to-beat intervals. The reliability was measured considering concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC); the Information-based measure of disagreement (IBMD) was used for agreement quantification. High reliability and low disagreement were generally found. Using the conventional interpretation excellent consistency was found at 250 HZ for more than 68%, 50%, 50% and 58% of the cases for RR, RT, QT and QTc, respectively. Results indicate that at 250 Hz RR, RT, QT and QTc measures are still reliable compared with the values at 1000 Hz
