Hacia el reconocimiento del español de Guinea Ecuatorial

En esta contribución se trata el estatus del español de Guinea Ecuatorial en el conjunto de las variedades de la lengua española. Partiendo de investigaciones y publicaciones previas, en los primeros apartados se resumen posibles razones que pueden explicar el amplio desconocimiento y las valoraciones negativas del español de Guinea Ecuatorial en el mundo hispanohablante. Se exponen motivos sociohistóricos, políticos, geográficos y lingüísticos, y se repasan (y refutan) diferentes prejuicios y calificaciones desfavorables acerca del español ecuatoguineano, que han contribuido a su posición marginal en la dialectología española. A continuación, se subraya la importancia del español de Guinea Ecuatorial para la investigación sobre las variedades hispanas, se resumen sus rasgos lingüísticos definitorios, que permiten considerarlo como dialecto propio, y se señala su relevancia para los estudios afrohispánicos. Based on previous research and publications, the first paragraphs discuss possible reasons that may explain the widespread ignorance about and the negative attitude towards the Spanish of Equatorial Guinea in the Spanish-speaking world. Some socio-historical, political, geographical and linguistic reasons will be evaluated, and different prejudices and unfavorable valuations on the Equatoguinean Spanish, which have contributed to its marginal position in the Spanish dialectology, will be reviewed (and refuted). Further, we will emphasize the importance of the Spanish of Equatorial Guinea for the investigation about the varieties of Spanish, summarize its linguistic features, which allow us to consider it as an own dialect, and point out its relevance to the Afro-Hispanic studies. The article finishes with someconclusions that highlight the recent advances in the process towards the recognition of the Spanish of Equatorial Guinea

Language contacts in modern Judeo-Spanish: Notes on the concessive and concessive conditional clauses

Since the beginning of the Sephardic diaspora in the Ottoman Empire, Judeo-Spanish has been in contact with different languages, both romance and others. The lexical borrowings from these languages are a characteristic element of Judeo-Spanish, especially the Hebraisms of the classical period (until the beginning of the 19 th century) and the Gallicisms of the modern period (from the middle of the 19 th century onward). The results of these language contacts have seldom been analyzed from a syntactical point of view, a fact that reflects the general lack of detailed studies about Judeo-Spanish syntax. The aim of this paper is to summarize the results of language contacts that can be observed in the concessive and concessive conditional clauses in modern Judeo-Spanish texts, published between 1880 and 1930. First, we see an increase and a diversification of the concessive conjunctions due to the contacts with Western European languages, especially Italian. Second, a linguistic innovation in the concessive conditional clauses reflects the fundamental changes in the language contacts of Judeo-Spanish between the 18 th century and the modern period, as well as the modernization of Judeo-Spanish that characterizes its transformation during the last decades of the 19 th and the beginning of the 20th centuries

De castizar a disparar o ¿cómo hablan los guineoecuatorianos el español? Terminología metalingüística y reflexiones teórico-ideológicas a partir de un corpus de entrevistas sociolingüísticas

Despite the increasing interest in Equatorial Guinea observed in the academic field, it continues to have a quite limited representation and a rather marginal status in Hispanic linguistic studies. In Spanish lexicography, Equatorial Guinea has received little attention too, despite the undoubted existence of unique words and meanings which characterise the Equatoguinean variety of Spanish. In this article, we offer a critical approach to the eccentric position that the Equatoguinean lexicon occupies in traditional Hispanic linguistics. To do so, we base on a corpus of 24 sociolinguistic interviews conducted in Madrid with people of Equatoguinean origin. In special, we study a selection of metalinguistic terms used by the interviewees that refer to how Equatoguineans speak Spanish: the verbs castizar, inculcar, disparar and chapurrear, as well as the nouns disparate(s) and guineo / guíneo. In addition, we include an excursus on the appearance of the linguistic concepts lengua, idioma and dialecto. All the terms studied are exemplified by illustrative excerpts from the interviews. The main interest of the study lies in the combination of the lexical-semantic analysis of the terms mentioned with a subsequent theoretical-ideological interpretation of the results. Starting from a series of concrete words, this multiple approach allows us to observe various challenges which characterise traditional Hispanic dialectology and which are also reflected in lexicology. In particular, we draw attention to the problems faced when studying more eccentric varieties of the language on the basis of analytical guidelines, theories and ideologies built around varieties considered more “standard” and “normative” than others.A pesar del creciente interés por Guinea Ecuatorial que se observa en el ámbito académico, en los estudios de lingüística hispánica sigue teniendo una representación bastante limitada y un estatus más bien marginal. También en la lexicografía española, Guinea Ecuatorial ha recibido poca atención, pese a la existencia indudable de voces y acepciones propias que caracterizan la variedad guineoecuatoriana del español. En este artículo, ofrecemos un acercamiento crítico a la posición excéntrica que ocupa el léxico guineoecuatoriano en la lingüística hispánica tradicional. Para ello, nos basamos en un corpus de 24 entrevistas sociolingüísticas que hemos realizado en Madrid con personas de origen guineoecuatoriano. En concreto, estudiamos una selección de términos metalingüísticos empleados por las personas entrevistadas que hacen referencia a cómo los guineoecuatorianos hablan el español: los verbos castizar, inculcar, disparar y chapurrear, y los sustantivos disparate(s) y guineo / guíneo. Además, incluimos un excurso sobre la aparición de los conceptos lingüísticos lengua, idioma y dialecto. Todos los términos estudiados se ejemplifican mediante extractos ilustrativos de las entrevistas. El principal interés del estudio reside en la combinación del análisis léxico-semántico de los términos mencionados con una posterior interpretación teórico-ideológica de los resultados. Este acercamiento múltiple nos permite observar, a partir de una serie de vocablos concretos, varios desafíos que caracterizan la dialectología hispánica tradicional y que se reflejan, asimismo, en la lexicología. Equatoguineans in Madrid: attitudes toward their own Spanish and the Spanish of Madrid

Hasta el día de hoy, el español de Guinea Ecuatorial es una variedad lingüística poco considerada en estudios sobre historia, dialectología y sociolingüística del español. De modo similar, y a diferencia de otros grupos hispanohablantes, los inmigrantes guineoecuatorianos en España constituyen un colectivo poco visible, que hasta ahora no se ha visto representado en investigaciones sociolingüísticas sobre la población inmigrante en la sociedad española. El presente trabajo tiene como propósito mejorar la visibilidad de los guineoecuatorianos y de su situación lingüística en Madrid a través de una primera aproximación a las valoraciones que hacen del español madrileño y del español hablado en su país de origen. Los datos se extraen de diez entrevistas, realizadas en 2017 en Madrid con inmigrantes procedentes de Guinea Ecuatorial. Los resultados se pondrán en relación con el contexto histórico-político y sociolingüístico actual en el que ocurre el contacto entre las dos variedades del español.Equatoguineans in Madrid: attitudes toward their own Spanish and the Spanish of Madrid. Until today, the Spanish of Equatorial Guinea is a linguistic variety that has been ignored in many studies on history, dialectology and sociolinguistics of the Spanish language. In a similar way, and in contrast with other Spanish speaking groups, the Equatoguinean immigrants in Spain constitute a hardly visible group, which so far has not been considered in sociolinguistic investigations on the immigrant population in the Spanish society. This paper aims at improving the visibility of the Equatoguineans and their sociolinguistic situation in Madrid through a first analysis of their attitudes toward the Spanish of Madrid and the Spanish spoken in their country of origin. The data is drawn from ten interviews that were conducted in 2017 in Madrid with immigrants from Equatorial Guinea. The results will be connected with the historical, political and sociolinguistic context in which the contact between these two varieties of Spanish takes place

Acerca de la expresión de la condicionalidad y de la concesividad en judeoespañol moderno escrito

Conditionality and concessivity are two linguistic categories that are closely related. So far, they have hardly been studied in Judeo-Spanish. This article helps closing this research gap. As its main objective, the paper offers a synthesis of the linguistic mechanisms of conditional and concessive expression in Sephardic texts from 1880 to 1930. The considered linguistic mechanisms do not only include syntactic aspects but also semantic, pragmatic and contextual ones. Next to the prototypical conditional and concessive clauses, two further, peripheral categories will be presented: the pseudo-conditionals and the concessive conditionals. For the history of Judeo-Spanish, the mentioned decades are characterized by processes of expanding and modernizing the language. This development is primarily influenced by the contact with French and Italian and can not only be observed in the lexicon but also in syntactic structures such as the conditional and concessive clauses.La condicionalidad y la concesividad constituyen dos categorías lingüísticas estrechamente relacionadas, que hasta el momento apenas se han estudiado en judeoespañol. A esta laguna desea contribuir el presente trabajo, cuyo objetivo principal es ofrecer una síntesis acerca de los mecanismos de expresión condicional y concesiva en textos sefardíes de los años 1880 a 1930. El estudio toma en consideración tanto aspectos sintáctico-formales como semántico-pragmáticos y contextuales. Aparte de las oraciones condicionales y concesivas prototípicas, asimismo se presentan dos categorías periféricas: las oraciones pseudocondicionales y las condicionales concesivas. Para la historia del judeoespañol, las décadas señaladas se caracterizan por profundos procesos de elaboración lingüística con el fin de ampliar y modernizar la lengua. Dicha elaboración ante todo se nutrió de los contactos con el francés y el italiano y, aunque donde más se hace notar es en el léxico, también halla su reflejo en la sintaxis, así por ejemplo, en las construcciones condicionales y concesivas
