Sparsity of p-divisible unramified liftings for subvarieties of abelian varieties with trivial stabilizer

By means of the theory of strongly semistable sheaves and of the theory of the Greenberg transform, we generalize to higher dimensions a result on the sparsity of p-divisible unramified liftings which played a crucial role in Raynaud's proof of the Manin-Mumford conjecture for curves. We also give a bound for the number of irreducible components of the first critical scheme of subvarieties of an abelian variety which are complete intersections.Comment: 19 page

Density fluctuations in the intermediate glass-former glycerol: a Brillouin light scattering study

Brillouin scattering has been used to measure the dynamic structure factor of glycerol as a function of temperature from the high temperature liquid to the glassy state. Our investigation aims at understanding the number and the nature of the relaxation processes active in this prototype glass forming system in the high frequency region. The associated character of glycerol is reflected by a rather simple relaxations pattern, while the contributions coming from intra-molecular channels are negligible in the GHz frequency region. The temperature behavior of the characteristic frequency and lifetime of the longitudinal acoustic modes is analyzed, suggesting that a phenomenological model which only includes the structural (α\alpha) process and the unrelaxed viscosity is able to catch the leading contributions to the dynamics of the density fluctuations. This ansatz is also supported by a combined analysis of light and inelastic x-ray scattering spectra. The temperature dependence of the characteristic time of the α\alpha-process, τα\tau_\alpha, obtained by a full-spectrum analysis conforms to the α\alpha-scale universality, i.e. the values τα\tau_\alpha revealed by different experimental techniques are proportional the ones to the others. The non-erogodicity parameter smoothly decreases on increasing the temperature, and no signature of the cusp-like behavior predicted by the idealized mode coupling theory and observed in other glass-formers is found in glycerol.Comment: RevTeX4, 14 pages, 9 EPS figure

L’art. 51 della Costituzione e l’accesso delle donne ai pubblici uffici e al lavoro nel settore pubblico = Article. 51 of the Constitution and women's access to public offices and work in the public sector. WP C.S.D.L.E. “Massimo D’Antona”.IT – 406/2019

The origin of art.51 Italian Constitution, establishing the equality between men and women in the access to public offices, is very interesting because of the exclusion of the women existing in the past. The historical analysis show how difficult was pass this article in the Constituent Assembly, particularly with reference to the access of women to the magistracy because of the bias against their capacity. Focusing the following historical carrying out of the principle, the essay point out many other difficulties in the pursuing this aim

Main specifications of CFD codes for WUIVIEW activities

    Get PDF
CFD simulations will be the core activity of the WUVIEW performance based fire safety analysis. The purpose of this document is to provide WUIVIEW partners with a general overview of the CFD codes to be used in the Action. The general simulation framework is described, particularly highlighting data inputs and scenario description requirements, to be developed in subsequent WUIVIEW WPs. This TN provides the technical foundations and main specifications of the databases to be designed within the WUIVIEW working program (ongoing action by UPC).Postprint (updated version

WUI state of the art and regulatory needs in Europe

    Get PDF
The document summarizes the state of the art of the regulationsrelevant to WUI in Europe, providing an organized set of references to the specific regulatory documents. It is focused on three main relevant topics: i) fuel-reduced fringes; ii) Building codes and standards; iii)Wildland-Industrial Interface. Current regulations are analysed and compared, leading to the identification of important needs and limitations of the current European regulatory frameworkPreprin

Early-Middle Pleistocene benthic turnover and oxygen isotope stratigraphy from the Central Mediterranean (Valle di Manche, Crotone Basin, Italy): data and trends

    Get PDF
Ostracod faunal turnover and oxygen isotope data (foraminifera) along the Valle di Manche (VdM) section are herein compiled. Specifically, the material reported in this work includes quantitative palaeoecological data and patterns of ostracod fauna framed within a high-resolution oxygen isotope stratigraphy (δ18O) from Uvigerina peregrina. In addition, the multivariate ostracod faunal stratigraphic trend (nMDS axis-1 sample score) is calibrated using bathymetric distributions of extant molluscs sampled from the same stratigraphic intervals along the VdM section. Data and analyses support the research article “Dynamics of benthic marine communities across the Early-Middle Pleistocene boundary in the Mediterranean region (Valle di Manche, Southern Italy): biotic and stratigraphic implications” Rossi et al. Impact load behaviour of Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) hemp fibre composite laminates

    Get PDF
13 pages, 23 figures.Aim of this work is to determine experimentally some important mechanical characteristics of RTM hemp plain weave fabric/epoxy laminates. Equipment and test methods are described and critically discussed. Main subjects of this work are: RTM process improvement, preliminary tensile and flexural tests and impact performance. The latter is analyzed with particular attention, also comparing data with other experimental results. Attention is devoted both to the process, which strongly influences the mechanical performance of natural long fibres reinforced composites and to the low-velocity impact behaviour. This is a very important requirement for future aeronautical applications, in that composite structures should retain sufficient residual compression properties (CAI: Compression After Impact) after a Barely Visible Impact Damage (B.V.I.D).Publicad

On the origin of the λ\lambda-transition in liquid Sulphur

Developing a novel experimental technique, we applied photon correlation spectroscopy using infrared radiation in liquid Sulphur around TλT_\lambda, i.e. in the temperature range where an abrupt increase in viscosity by four orders of magnitude is observed upon heating within few degrees. This allowed us - overcoming photo-induced and absorption effects at visible wavelengths - to reveal a chain relaxation process with characteristic time in the ms range. These results do rehabilitate the validity of the Maxwell relation in Sulphur from an apparent failure, allowing rationalizing the mechanical and thermodynamic behavior of this system within a viscoelastic scenario.Comment: 5 pages, 4 eps figures, accepted in Phys.
