WESTERN AND ISLAMIC CONCEPTS ABOUT ANIMAL RIGHTS (A COMPARATIVE STUDY)

This paper explores the contrasting perspectives on animal rights in Western and Islamic traditions. The Western viewpoint often emphasizes the ethical treatment of animals based on notions of sentience, empathy, and ecological sustainability. In contrast, Islamic teachings approach animal rights through a religious and ethical framework, with emphasis on compassion, stewardship, and moderation in resource utilization. By analyzing these two distinct viewpoints, the paper contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of global perspectives on animal rights and encourages dialogue for more humane treatment of animals worldwide. The Quranic injunctions against causing unnecessary harm align with the principles of animal welfare, urging Muslims to provide for and protect animals under their care. However, differences emerge in the philosophical justifications and practical implications of animal rights. The Western discourse tends to emphasize the intrinsic value of animals' sentience, while the Islamic framework underscores the ethical responsibilities of humans as stewards of creation

Incivility Within and Beyond Classrooms: Exploring the Perceptions of Targets, Instigators, and Observers

This study aimed at understanding the perceptions of female students who had experienced or witnessed incivility by faculty, and instigated incivility in or out of the classroom and how it affected them. Through the application of a phenomenological and qualitative approach, data were collected from eight (8) female business administration students from public sector universities of Quetta, Pakistan. The findings of the study revealed that female students experienced and witnessed faculty incivility within and beyond the classrooms, which included harassment, character assassination, and humiliation characterized as intense behaviors of faculty. These encounters of faculty incivility resulted in psychological distress like depression, interrupted sleeping patterns, and fear. Furthermore, the findings concerning instigated incivility exhibited that those female students who misbehaved with their instructors were distressed and wanted to quit their studies. The results of this study would be helpful for the university administration to develop policies to combat incivility in educational institutions

ANALYSIS OF HEPATITIS AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN OF LAHORE

Introduction: Hepatitis B is one of the major global health infectious diseases affecting the liver. It is estimated that, globally, over 2 billion people have been infected with Hepatitis B virus and an estimated 240 million people are chronic carriers of the virus. Hepatitis C infection is one of the major health issue worldwide caused by hepatitis C virus. Objectives of the study: The main objective of the study is to analyze the hepatitis infection among pregnant women of Pakistan. Material and methods: This study was conducted at Government Lady Aitchison Hospital, Lahore during January 2018 to May 2018. A sample size of 100 individuals was targeted. A specific questionnaire was developed to determine viral hepatitis perception. This instrument was composed of two topics: demographic characteristics and viral hepatitis perception. Sociodemographic data included gender, age, education, and monthly family income. Results: Independent factors associated with insufficient reduced HBV knowledge include women outside the healthcare sector, lower education level, and no previous HBV testing. The majority of respondents could provide correct responses about the common aspects of HBV infection, including screening, blood-borne and perinatal transmissions, prevention by vaccination, and sequelae of HBV infection. Conclusion: It is concluded that knowledge and awareness of HBV among pregnant women in the Pakistan is low. Generalized across the country, this could have the potential to hamper effective HBV prevention and control in Pakistan

Spontaneous Abortions in Women of Lahore belonging to low-socioeconomic status

Objective: Assessment of abortion frequency in women of Karachi’s low socio-economic statusMaterial and Methods: A cross-sectional research was carried out on a group of 300 females. The participants of the sample group were the females from low socio-economic class of Lahore’s different hospital such as Mayo Hospital, Services Hospital, General Hospital, Surgimed Hospital, Fatima Memorial Hospital, and Ganga Ram Hospital for six months period commencing from March 2018 to August 2018. A self-administered survey form/questionnaire was circulated and after the informed oral consent from the females it was filled out. An experimental study was done for the assessment of the questionnaire’s validity. SPSS version 20 was used for the data analysis with confidence interval 95%, 5% as margin of error and value of p 0.05 was regarded significant.Results: An interview was conducted of 300 females through the questionnaire. The females’ median age was 25-40 years. Monthly income of 65.1% family was below Rs 10,000/- and the income of 82 females was 11,000 to 17,000. 173 females (57.66 %) with vaginal bleeding signifying  the risk of abortion visited the doctor  (p value 0.037), Ultra Sound revealed the abnormality of aborted baby of 174 females (58 %, p value 0.040), during the first trimester of pregnancy 121 females (40.33%) had infections (p value 0.029),during the first trimester of pregnancy, 92 females (30.6%) had used antibiotic capsule for infection (p value 0.040), 71 females (23.6%) had trauma (p value 0.003), 172 females (57.33%) were having cervical incompetence (p value 0.021) and during the pregnancy the females who had lifted the heavy stuff were 61.2% (p value 0.059).Conclusion: The research has concluded that the rate of abortion risk in females of low socio-economic class is high and the awareness level is unsatisfactory regarding risk and causing elements of spontaneous abortion. In order to avoid undesired results of pregnancy, more efforts are required to assist both the young and adult females of low socio-economic class. Preventive measures are critically required to be taken in order to save the health of females and children of low socio-economic status.Key Words: Awareness, Cervical Incompetence, infection, Spontaneous Abortion, Traum

Role of Gum Chewing After Small Gut Anastomosis

This study was performed to access the effectiveness of gum chewing on gut motility in early postoperative period after small gut anastomosis in patients operated for reversal of ileostomy or ileocolostomy. Methods: This prospective, randomized trial was undertaken at Surgical Unit-I, Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi Medical University, Rawalpindi from March 2016 to March 2018. 90 patients were randomly divided into two equal groups. All patients underwent small gut anastomosis after reversal of ileostomy or ileocolostomy. In group A (gum chewing group), patients were advised to chew gum, whereas group B (control group) patients did not received any gum for chewing and continued standard post-operative care. Both groups were kept NPO till 2nd post-operative day. After surgery, all patients were observed for onset of bowel sounds, time after surgery when flatus and stool were passed, time required for return of appetite and discharge from hospital. Patient satisfaction with postoperative course, incidence of anastomotic leak, wound infection and mortality was also recorded in both groups. Results : Statistically, group A and group B were similar in age, gender and type of procedure. There was significant difference between both groups for onset of bowel sounds, passage of first flatus, complaints of nausea and vomiting, appetite, duration of hospital stay and patient’s satisfaction level (P < 0.05). In Group A, 35 patients were satisfied whereas in group B, only 5 patients were happy with their postoperative course (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between groups for incidence of anastomotic leak, wound infection and mortality. Conclusion: It is safe and cost effective to advise gum chewing in patients undergoing small gut anastomosis for reducing duration of postoperative ileus and improving level of patient satisfaction about their postoperative course. Quality of Life of Hearing-Impaired Young Adults Using Hearing Aid

Objective:The assessment of the quality of life of hearing-impaired young adults with the use of hearing aid.Study Design: Descriptive studyPlace and Duration of Study: This study was carried out from 01.01.2018 to 30.06.2018 at the ENT Department, Fatima Memorial Hospital College of Medicine & Dentistry, Lahore.Materials and Methods:The study was carried out on the 50 people selected from the “Hamza Foundation Academy for the Deaf” with “severe degree” hearing loss, all over the “age of 18 -34 years” (young adults).With the use of hearing aid all the questions were answered by the patients. There were 16 questions in the questionnaire relating to general life quality and other elements such as phycological, physical, environmental and social relations. All the objective of the study was collected through questionnaire.Results: This study has revealed that 3(6%) patients has poor life quality, 28(56%) have moderate life quality and 19(38%) patients have good life quality after the use of hearing aid.Conclusion:The current study has revealed that hearing aid usage is clearly connected with the significant improvement in emotional, social, physical and psychologicalwell-being of a patientsuffering from heavy hearing loss. The great Arabic scholar named Khalil Bin Ahmad founded it. In Urdu Language it has come via Arabic. So far as the knowledge of prosody in Urdu is concerned, it has got its foundations in Arabic language. Some prosodic characteristics are common and others are distinct between them. In this brief article, the researcher has tried to highlight and bring out the similarities and differences between Urdu and Arabic.</p

mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} Distinguished scholars of Arabic are generally convinced that Al-Kamel, written by Al-Mubarrad, is one of the most authentic and original sources of Arabic language and literature. Out of the four sources of Arabic language and literature, they consider this work the most valuable. In this work Al-Mubarrad has explained the rules and regulations of Arabic and has provided the readers with illustrations from the Arabic verses. In this paper the researcher, after studying the prosody of the verses of this work, describes the meter with their scansion. He also illustrates Zehafat (زحافات) and Elal (علل) to illustrate different theoretical and technical aspects of the language and prosody of Arabic.</p
