    Pseudo-label Generation for Agricultural Robotics Applications

    In the context of table grape cultivation there is rising interest in robotic solutions for harvesting, pruning, precision spraying and other agronomic tasks. Perception algorithms at the core of these systems require large amounts of labelled data, which in this context is often not available.In this work, we propose a semi-supervised solution to reduce the data needed to get state-of-the-art detection and segmentation of fruits in orchards. We present the case of table grape vineyards in southern Lazio (Italy) since grapes are a difficult fruit to segment due to occlusion, color and general illumination conditions. We consider the concrete scenario where the source labelled data is wine grape, while the target data is table grape, with considerable covariate shift. Starting from a simple video input, our method generates first bounding box labels, leveraging the structure from motion information, then segmentation masks, using the same weakly generated bounding box labels and a refining step based on Grabcut.This system is able to produce labels that considerably reduce the covariate shift from source to target data and that requires very limited data acquisition effort. Comparisons with State-of-the-art supervised solutions show how our methods are able to train new models that achieve high performances with few labelled images, with very simple labelling

    Management of self-inflicted orchiectomy in psychiatric patient. Case report and non-systematic review of the literature.

    INTRODUCTION: Self-inflicted orchidectomy and auto-castration, also known as "Eshmun complex" is a rare phenomenon. The aim of our study it to present the management of a patient who performed a self orchiectomy and propose a non-systematic review of literature about self-orchiectomy. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A 27-years old male Patient with psychiatric disorder was admitted to our ward to have been cutted his scrotum with scissors and cut away his left testicle causing active bleeding from the left spermatic artery. The patient underwent emergency surgery with clamping of the spermatic cord and hemostasis of the wound. RESULTS: After surgery the clinical condition of the patient remained good during whole hospitalization. Urgent psychiatric evaluation was performed in order to administer proper therapy for acute management. To best of our knowledge, only 11 cases of self-orchidectomy are reported in literature and all of them except 1 case, underwent surgical exploration. CONCLUSIONS: Self-orchidectomy is an extremely rare phenomenon, often associated with psychiatric disorders, compounded by the use of drugs. In our opinion, emergency surgery should be the first choice of treatment, offering diagnostic and hemostatic purpose in a single act, aimed to prevent acute and postacute complications

    Temporal Comparative Analysis of Industrial Symbiosis in a Business Network: Opportunities of Circular Economy

    The objective of this work is to perform a temporal comparative analysis in a network of companies in the furniture sector, in Santa Catarina, southern Brazil, presenting drivers through circular economy modeling. The study was performed applying the model proposed by Saraceni et al. (2017) in a network of Furniture companies in Concórdia, Brazil. The model diagnoses the presence of industrial symbiosis practices in five domains variables involving Technical, Economic, Political, Information and Organizational Factors, influencing three spheres: by-product exchange, service sharing, and managerial cooperation. The study addressed the positive relationship aspects of the circular economy as guidelines for improving the industrial symbiosis of the network. The results of data collection in 2019 were compared with the results of the application made in 2014. The comparison revealed a significant advance from 2014 to 2019 towards Industrial Symbiosis, highlighting that corrective actions and circular economy strategies may lead this business network to be the first Industrial Symbiosis case in Brazil in the next few years, meanwhile fostering the ecological network’s process to the country

    Similar levels of efficacy of two different maintenance doses of adalimumab on clinical severity and quality of life of patients with hidradenitis suppurativa

    Adalimumab is the only biologic agent approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) patients (i.e., with Hurley II or III), which is recommended in two different maintenance doses (i.e., 40 mg weekly or 80 mg every two weeks). We conducted a prospective multicentric study to measure outcomes related to the severity of disease and quality of life (QoL) of patients affected by moderate-to-severe HS, treated with adalimumab at a maintenance dosing of 40 mg or 80 mg. Assessments were performed at baseline (T0) and after 32 weeks of treatment (T32). We enrolled 85 moderate-to-severe HS Italian patients, 43 men (50.6%) and 42 women, aged between 16 and 62 years (median 31 years, interquartile range 24.4-43.8). Statistically significant improvements were observed for clinical status (with a mean reduction of 7.1 points for the International Hidradenitis Suppurativa Severity Score System (IHS4)), pain levels (3.1 mean decrease in VAS), and QoL (3.4 mean improvement in DLQI score). Patients with no comorbidities, and those with higher levels of perceived pain showed significantly greater improvement in QoL than their counterpart from T0 to T32. As for the proportion of patients who at follow-up reached the minimal clinical important difference (MCID) in QoL, significantly higher proportions of success were observed for age (patients in the 29-39 category), pain (patients with higher reported pain), and Hurley stage III. While both treatment regimen groups (i.e., 40 vs. 80 mg) improved significantly, no statistical differences were observed when comparing the two treatment dosages

    The Comparative Toxicogenomics Database: update 2011

    The Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD) is a public resource that promotes understanding about the interaction of environmental chemicals with gene products, and their effects on human health. Biocurators at CTD manually curate a triad of chemical–gene, chemical–disease and gene–disease relationships from the literature. These core data are then integrated to construct chemical–gene–disease networks and to predict many novel relationships using different types of associated data. Since 2009, we dramatically increased the content of CTD to 1.4 million chemical–gene–disease data points and added many features, statistical analyses and analytical tools, including GeneComps and ChemComps (to find comparable genes and chemicals that share toxicogenomic profiles), enriched Gene Ontology terms associated with chemicals, statistically ranked chemical–disease inferences, Venn diagram tools to discover overlapping and unique attributes of any set of chemicals, genes or disease, and enhanced gene pathway data content, among other features. Together, this wealth of expanded chemical–gene–disease data continues to help users generate testable hypotheses about the molecular mechanisms of environmental diseases.     Allogeneic stem cell transplant in patients with acute myeloid leukemia and karnofsky performance status score less than or equal to 80% : A study from the acute leukemia working party of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT)

    Limited data are currently available on the outcome of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) undergoing allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) with a reduced performance status. We herein present the results of a registry study on 2,936 AML patients undergoing allo-SCT in first remission (CR1) with a Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) score less than or equal to 80%. Two-year leukemia-free survival (LFS), overall survival (OS) and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)-free, and relapse-free survival (GRFS) rates were 54%, 59%, and 41%, respectively.
