    Recovering S1S^1-invariant metrics on S2S^2 from the equivariant spectrum

    We prove an inverse spectral result for S1S^1-invariant metrics on S2S^2 based on the so-called asymptotic equivariant spectrum. This is roughly the spectrum together with large weights of the S1S^1 action on the eigenspaces. Our result generalizes an inverse spectral result of the first and last named authors, together with Victor Guillemin, concerning S1S^1-invariant metrics on S2S^2 which are invariant under the antipodal map. We use higher order terms in the asymptotic expansion of a natural spectral measure associated with the Laplacian and the S1S^1 action.Comment: 16 pages; minor revisions throughout following comments from referee

    South Texas journalism: A case study of historical agenda-setting, 1861-1865

    In a span of two decades, agenda-setting has been a topic of interest in the communication field. Despite this interest, agenda-setting studies lack attempts to make the concept of agenda-setting useful in an historical context. This content analysis was designed to determine what agenda South Texas newspapers set with the Civil War coverage between January 1861 and May 1865. The process of agenda-setting is described by quantity and kind of war coverage. The findings of this thesis lend support to the research question that South Texas newspapers did make the Civil War part of their agenda. This thesis indicates that 39 percent of South Texas newspapers expressed an interest in covering the Civil War

    Abstrak Penelitian yang berjudul Penerapan Pembelajaran IPA Terpadu Tipe Shared dengan Model Pembelajaran Kooperatif Tipe Student Team Achievement Division (Pembagian Pencapaian Tim Siswa) pada Tema  Senter Plastik yang dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 1 Baureno bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan IPA Terpadu Tipe Shared dengan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD pada tema Senter Plastik terhadap keterlaksanaan RPP, aktivitas siswa, aktivitas guru, hasil belajar, dan respon siswa. Penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian pre eksperimental design ini menggunakan satu kelas yaitu kelas VIII A sebagai sampel. Data yang diperoleh berupa keterlaksanaan RPP, aktivitas siswa, aktivitas guru,dan respon siswa. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh didapatkan hasil belajar siswa yang dianalisis menggunakan uji normalitas dan uji t. Dari hasil uji normalitas diperoleh Lo hitung sebesar 0.1419 lebih kecil daripada Ltabel  sebesar  0.152.  Perhitungan ini diperoleh dari nilai pre test dan dapat dikatakan bahwa sampel berdistribusi normal. Dari hasil uji t diperoleh t hitung sebesar 17.6803 lebih besar daripada t tabel  sebesar  1.692 dengan  taraf signifikansi α = 0.05 dan n = 34.  Perhitungan ini diperoleh dari nilai pre test dan post test. Dan dapat dikatakan bahwa perbedaan pre test dan post test adalah signifikan. Ketuntasan hasil belajar siswa dengan menerapkan IPA Terpadu tema Senter Plastik di SMP Negeri 1 Baureno mencapai 94.12%.  Dari hasil pengamatan diperoleh Keterlaksanaan RPP terlaksana 100%. Aktivitas Siswa yang paling dominan dalam pembelajaran yaitu aktivitas mengerjakan LKS dalam kelompok belajar. Aktivitas guru yang paling dominan dalam pembelajaran yaitu aktivitas membimbing siswa mendapatkan informasi melalui diskusi dan percobaan. Dari hasil angket diperoleh dari 10 pernyataan mendapatkan kategori amat baik dan baik. Secara keseluruhan siswa merasa lebih mudah memahami materi IPA Terpadu dengan persentase mencapai 94.12% Kata kunci : IPA Terpadu Tipe Shared dengan Model Pembelajaran Kooperatif Tipe STAD Tema  Senter Plastik Abstract The tittle’s  research is Implementation of the Integrated Science Study Shared Learning with Cooperative Learning Model Type of Student Team Achievement Division (Division of Student Achievement Team) on the theme Flash light Plastic implemented in SMP Negeri 1 Baureno aims to describe the application of Integrated Science Shared Type type STAD cooperative model on a theme Plastic flashlight to implementation lesson plans, student activities, teacher activities, learning outcomes, and student responses. Pre-experimental research design using one class ie class VIII A as a sample. Data obtained in the form of student learning outcomes from students' test results. Implementation lesson plans, student activities, activities of teachers, Student responses. Based on data obtained obtained student learning outcomes were analyzed using normality test and t test. From the test results obtained by Lo count normality of 0.1419 is smaller than Ltabel of 0152. This calculation is derived from the value of pre-test and it can be said that the sample is normally distributed. From the results obtained by t test t count equal to 17.6803 bigger than t table for 1692 with a significance level α = 0.05 and n = 34. This calculation is derived from the value of pre test and post test. And it can be said that the difference in pre-test and post-test is significant. Mastery of student learning outcomes by implementing IPA Integrated theme Flashlight Plastic in SMP Negeri 1 Baureno reached 94.12%. From the observations obtained implementation lesson plans implemented 100%. Students are the most dominant activity in the learning activity worksheets work in study groups. The most dominant activity of teachers in learning activities that guide students to get the information through discussion and experimentation. From the results of the questionnaire obtained from 10 statements get very good and good categories. Overall the students were delighted with the integrated science reached 94.12%.     A comprehensive study of the effect of meteorological conditions on fruit abscission and metamitron thinning efficacy in Malus domestica Borkh

Universidade de LisboaMetamitron is an apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) fruit thinner that acts by reducing the photosynthetic capacity of trees. Thinning is a common practice among apple growers however, the effect of meteorological conditions, per si, and after metamitron spraying, is far from elucidated. In order to investigate the triggered physiological and biochemical processes, trials with shading nets (SN) during 5 days and high nighttime temperature (HNT) during 5 nights, along with high humidity (HH) for 3 h prior spraying were set in three locations, within 3 years. Lower irradiance caused a momentaneous photosynthetic decrease that led to reduced levels of leaf sucrose and sorbitol and consequent increases in fruit abscission rates. HNT pathway is a slight increment in the respiratory mechanisms, but mainly in the whole tree metabolic activity, finally resulting in a shortage in sucrose and sorbitol levels, reducing fruit growth and promoting higher abscission rates. Metamitron acts through a photosynthetic inhibition, including reductions in RuBisCO total activity, translating in less CH production. In addition, it stimulates vegetative growth, consuming CH and slowing down fruit growth rate, and finally enhancing of abscission. The combined treatments resulted in the strongest thinning efficacy, through a suppression of the CH production caused by metamitron in combination with low radiation and or through enhanced expenditure cause by HNT, frequently over-thinning. The effect of HH may enhance fruit drop under humid climates and in younger trees, more susceptible to variations in CH content. This work shows meteorological conditions, namely cloudy days, periods of HNT and increased humidity levels, may affect metamitron thinning efficacy and must be considered in order to decide which rate to apply to achieve an optimum crop loadN/

    Female Land Rights and Rural Household Incomes in Brazil, Paraguay and Peru

    This paper explores the determinants of female land rights and their impact on household income levels among owner-operated farms in Brazil, Paraguay and Peru. Previous studies in Latin America suggest that the gender of the household head is not a significant predictor of household income, not unsurprising given the ambiguities with which self-declared headship is associated. We hypothesize that female land rights, by increasing women's options, are a positive determinant of household income, but given the disadvantages that they face as farmers, that their land rights will more likely impact upon off-farm rather than farm income. Regression analysis indicates that female land rights are positively related to off-farm income in Peru and Paraguay, but significantly so only in the case of dual-headed households in Peru where the bargaining power thesis is operative.     Ethnomathematics is a form of mathematics based on culture. Through the application of ethnomathematics in education, especially mathematics education, it is hoped that later students can better know and understand our own culture and educators can also more easily instill cultural values ​​themselves in students, so that cultural values ​​that should be part of the nation's character can be embedded early on in students. One of them is by using the traditional game of Congklak. One of the games that can be used in learning mathematics is the traditional game of congklak which is considered suitable in the material of two-dimentional figure where in it’s section there are several shapes of two-dimentional figure, such as circles and rectangles. The game is not only used as a learning medium, but students can get to know more about the traditional game of congklak and so that the traditional game of congklak can continue to be preserved. Schools have a variety of learning media, but not all of these media contain elements of Indonesian culture, especially for mathematics. The researcher also uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach and a descriptive method using the ADDIE teaching material development model to explain the results of the research that has been done. The application of this media is said to have positive results from the field results obtained by researchers and from the results of interviews conducted afterwards. The use of this media can in fact be applied to learning media in the classroom because it’s use is easy and fun for students

    Exemplifying mathematics teacher’s specialised knowledge in university teaching practices

    International audienceExtant research on the teachers’ knowledge includes limited studies focusing on teachers at university level. In this work, based on the Mathematics Teacher’s Specialised Knowledge (MTSK) model and through an instrumental case study, knowledge of a lecturer in a real analysis course for prospective mathematics teachers is analyzed. We exemplified lecturer knowledge in different subdomains of the MTSK model. These results contribute to the understanding and characterization of the components of mathematics teacher’s specialised knowledge at the university level
