The aim was to investigate the effects of short-term isokinetic training on muscle performance in young individuals. Eleven healthy males subjects underwent to short-term training, consisting of 3 sessions (4 sets, 10 repetitions of concentric isokinetic exercise at 120º.s-1; 2-minute interval between sets). Data reproducibility from two sessions was evaluated by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland and Altman test. Training assessments were made pre and post the 2nd and 3rd sessions (1 set, 3 repetitions of concentric knee extension at 60º.s-1, 120º.s-1 and 180º.s-1). An ANOVA for repeated measures and Tukey post-hoc test was applied to determine differences between tests. The ICC ranged from 0.97 to 0.98 for all velocities. There was an increase in peak torque at 60º.s-1 (P=0,03) and 120º.s-1 (P=0,01) after 2 training sessions. Two sessions of isokinetic exercise were sufficient to induce strength increases at the training velocity (120º.s-1) and the slower contraction velocity (60º.s-1) in young individuals

This article considers the customer’s trust and commitment variables in attaining the much desired brand loyalty. In this sense, the present study proposed to validate a theoric model composed of three pillars - trust, commitment and brand loyalty, which would be useful for companies with a focus on brand equity. This study was one of the first in the Brazilian academic context to utilize the aforementioned pillars in analyzing a brand with more than three decades of history in the Brazilian music entertainment sector, this being the Rock in Rio Festival. By means of the Facebook Advertisements, 725 online questionnaires were responded by participants in the 2017 edition of the Rock in Rio. In addition, three hypotheses which initially were established became five 5 hypotheses during the statistical analysis process, 4 of which were supported. According to the empirical results obtained, the relationship between the trust/service expectation X commitment, trust/service expectation X loyalty, trust/service recovery X loyalty and commitment X loyalty constructs presented satisfactory results. Therefore, the use of the said constructs in the test model yielded for commitment an R2 of 57.7% and for loyalty an R2 of 83.1%, each of which respectively is positive. The findings of this work were established on content analysis and statistical procedures based on multivariate techniques.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze glucose transporter 1 expression patterns in malignant tumors of various cell types and evaluate their diagnostic value by immunohistochemistry. INTRODUCTION: Glucose is the major source of energy for cells, and glucose transporter 1 is the most common glucose transporter in humans. Glucose transporter 1 is aberrantly expressed in several tumor types. Studies have implicated glucose transporter 1 expression as a prognostic and diagnostic marker in tumors, primarily in conjunction with positron emission tomography scan data. METHODS: Immunohistochemistry for glucose transporter 1 was performed in tissue microarray slides, comprising 1955 samples of malignant neoplasm from different cell types. RESULTS: Sarcomas, lymphomas, melanomas and hepatoblastomas did not express glucose transporter 1. Fortyseven per cent of prostate adenocarcinomas were positive, as were 29% of thyroid, 10% of gastric and 5% of breast adenocarcinomas. Thirty-six per cent of squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck were positive, as were 42% of uterine cervix squamous cell carcinomas. Glioblastomas and retinoblastomas showed membranous glucose transporter 1 staining in 18.6% and 9.4% of all cases, respectively. Squamous cell carcinomas displayed membranous expression, whereas adenocarcinomas showed cytoplasmic glucose transporter 1 expression. CONCLUSION: Glucose transporter 1 showed variable expression in various tumor types. Its absence in sarcomas, melanomas, hepatoblastomas and lymphomas suggests that other glucose transporters mediate the glycolytic pathway in these tumors. The data suggest that glucose transporter 1 is a valuable immunohistochemical marker that can be used to identify patients for evaluation by positron emission tomography scan. The function of cytoplasmic glucose transporter 1 in adenocarcinomas must be further examined

The Parkinson's disease-associated GPR37 receptor interacts with striatal adenosine A2A receptor controlling its cell surface expression and function in vivo

G protein-coupled receptor 37 (GPR37) is an orphan receptor associated to Parkinson's disease (PD) neuropathology. Here, we identified GPR37 as an inhibitor of adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) cell surface expression and function in vivo. In addition, we showed that GPR37 and A2AR do oligomerize in the striatum. Thus, a close proximity of GPR37 and A2AR at the postsynaptic level of striatal synapses was observed by double-labelling post-embedding immunogold detection. Indeed, the direct receptor-receptor interaction was further substantiated by proximity ligation in situ assay. Interestingly, GPR37 deletion promoted striatal A2AR cell surface expression that correlated well with an increased A2AR agonist-mediated cAMP accumulation, both in primary striatal neurons and nerve terminals. Furthermore, GPR37−/− mice showed enhanced A2AR agonist-induced catalepsy and an increased response to A2AR antagonist-mediated locomotor activity. Overall, these results revealed a key role for GPR37 controlling A2AR biology in the striatum, which may be relevant for PD management

A simple flow system with multiple pulse amperometric detection using a single working electrode is proposed for simultaneous determination of ascorbic (AA) and acetylsalicylic (AAS) acids in pharmaceutical formulations. The procedure is based on application of two potential pulses: 0.90 V/50 ms: oxidation and determination of AA without the interference of AAS; 1.35 V/50 ms: oxidation of both compounds and quantification of AAS by current subtraction using a correction factor. Sampling rate was estimated as 125 injections per hour and the limits of detection were 0.17 and 0.16 µmol L-1 for AA and AAS, respectively. Results for commercial samples agreed with those obtained using HPLC
