Orthopedic face mask has been introduced for more than 100 years ago, however, it is primarily indicated for growingpatients. Its effectiveness in adult patients is still questionable. It is thought that in non growing adults the degree oforthopedic movement is minimal, whether dental movement i s more prominent. In addition, there is still controversial, whether patients’ compliance or the existent skeletal growth determines the treatment success. The objective of this studywas to propose a new concept for adult orthopedics face mask therapy ba sed on functional and biological mechanismsinvolved in dentofacial remodeling . Conventional face mask therapy only depended on duration, magnitude andunidirectional elastic forces. In the reviewed case report, the inspiration for a new concept was evolv ed from themultidirectional forces which were resulted from continuous functional movements (i.e. chewing and speaking) duringwearing face mask. These movements may lead to stimulate additional orthopedic or skeletal movements in adult patient. The expla nation of this phenomenon could be explained not only by clinical result, but also with the biologicalmechanism of bone remodeling. In conclusion, regarding to the successful treatment result and its logical biologicalexplanation, this new concept to inc rease the effectiveness of adult orthopedic face mask therapy is likely

HIV/AIDS cases growth progressively. Oral Candidiasis frequently found in the tract of pathogenesis HIV infection, these condition due to immunocompromised condition among HIV/AIDS patient and one higher complications insidence in oral. Until now, type of cell and receptor of oral mucosa as particularly target of HIV has not been well understood. Secretory Aspartyl Proteinase (SAP) is hydrolytic enzyme secreted by C. albicans which might destruct protein in the site of infection. This enzyme coding by SAP gene and contribute to C. albicans virulency. The aim of this research is to found the expression of SAP3 as the predictor of HIV severity. 30 HIV patients divided into two groups, one group with ARV therapeutic indication (15 patients) and the other group without ARV therapeutic indication. The cotton swab has been done in buccal mucous and dorsum of tongue. The detection would be done by PCR. The result is showed in non-ARV, revealed the presence of SAP3 gene in all samples, but SAP3 gene was not found in all HIV/AIDS samples with ARV. SAP3 could be used as indicator of HIV/AIDS severity, since it was an oral infecton marker related with the degree of host immunodeficiency and C. albicans virulence level

Background: The high prevalence of early childhood caries still becomes a major health problem. It is because children prefer to consume sweet foods, which are also cariogenic. The oral mucosa is a mirror of general health or any systemic disease which usually shows visible symptoms in the oral cavity. Dental caries in children is often related to the socioeconomic characteristics of the parents. Some references suggest that there is a relationship between the socioeconomic status with the incidence of caries. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of socioeconomic characteristics of the parents with the risk prediction of early childhood caries by using cariogram approach to the elementary school students in Wonosobo. Method: The research is an observational analytic study with cross-sectional approach survey method. The research sampling uses proportional random sampling with 201 respondents of fifth graders. The socioeconomic status is measured through questionnaires, while the risk prediction of early childhood caries is measured by using cariogram. The research data analysis uses Spearman rank. Result: The results of the study show that the socioeconomic characteristics of the respondents’ parents mostly belong in the middle category as many as 145 respondents (72.1%), lower category as many as 31 respondents (15.4%) and in the upper category as many as 25 respondents (12.4%). Prediction of the respondents avoiding early childhood caries is 55%, while the prediction of the respondents being risked of having early childhood caries is 45%. The results of data analysis show that the relationship between the socioeconomic characteristics of the respondents’ parents and the risk of having early childhood caries for the respondents is p<0.05. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the socioeconomic characteristics of the respondents’ parents with the early childhood caries, which shows that the higher the socioeconomic status of the parents, the lower the risk of the respondents from having early childhood caries

ABSTRACT Green tea and its polyphenols have been studied extensively as cancer chemopreventive agents in recent years. However, the mechanisms of action are still not clearly understood. Some researchers suggest that immune system plays important role to destroy cancer cells. Because of that reason, the present study was designed to analyse the effects of oral administration standardized green tea water extract on increasing of IFN-y blood concentration and to elucidate possible mechanismsinvolved in the inhibitory action of the cancer development. Two groups (male and female) of 5 rats have given p.o. administration 1.25%of standardizedgreen tea water extract and got 300 mg of (-)-epigal/ocatechingal/ate (EGCG)/kg body weight, while two groups others (male and female) were used as control. We found that IFN-y blood concentration on male and female Wistar rat are significantly increase with 13.11% and 17.59%, respectively (p::,0.05)by ELISA method, whereas control had no increase. These results indicate that standardized green tea water extract has possibility to prevent and suppress cancer development through enhancing IFN-r expressionand other immunosurveil/ ancecomponent.
