Problematizar a educação matemática a partir do discurso sobre o insucesso

    Get PDF

Ethnomathematics in non-formal educational settings: the urban boundaries project

    Get PDF
The push to marry off local and school knowledge has been a growing concern within educational sciences, particularly in mathematics education where a field of studies by the name of ethnomathematics has been producing research around the uses people do of mathematics outside school’s walls. Notwithstanding the good will of educational agents in bringing to schools local knowledges, criticisms have been made on the sometimes naive way in which such a bridge is theorized and implemented. After a brief description of these criticisms, we present the Urban Boundaries Project as an attempt to avoid the inconsistencies of schooling, and the promotion of a non-scholarized ethnomathematics

Development of advanced monitoring and control tools for rAAV production in the insect cell system

"Since the first publication introducing the concept in 1972, gene therapy has had a series of success stories and setbacks. However, the recent rise of awareness, public interest, promising results in clinical trials and recent market approvals indicate that gene therapy has come to stay. Currently there is a growing interest from the biopharmaceutical industry in gene and cell therapy, mostly using viral vectors. (...)

Dynamical properties of nuclear and stellar matter and the symmetry energy

The effects of density dependence of the symmetry energy on the collective modes and dynamical instabilities of cold and warm nuclear and stellar matter are studied in the framework of relativistic mean-field hadron models. The existence of the collective isovector and possibly an isoscalar collective mode above saturation density is discussed. It is shown that soft equations of state do not allow for a high density isoscalar collective mode, however, if the symmetry energy is hard enough an isovector mode will not disappear at high densities. The crust-core transition density and pressure are obtained as a function of temperature for β\beta-equilibrium matter with and without neutrino trapping. An estimation of the size of the clusters formed in the non-homogeneous phase as well as the corresponding growth rates and distillation effect is made. It is shown that cluster sizes increase with temperature, that the distillation effect close to the inner edge of the crust-core transition is very sensitive to the symmetry energy, and that, within a dynamical instability calculation, the pasta phase exists in warm compact stars up to 10 - 12 MeV.Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures. Four reliquary busts from the former monastery of Madre de Deus: Study and conservation

    Get PDF
This article describes the conservation and restoration treatments as well as the historical and analytical study carried out on four reliquary busts from the former Monastery of Madre de Deus, in Lisbon, currently the National Azulejo Museum. These reliquaries belong to a collection composed of forty-five reliquary busts, which represent a unique and practically intact set and has dated busts from the late 16th century until late 17th century. The analytical results obtained suggest that the four busts were produced according to the art treatises of the time and the identified materials meet the materials that would be used in that period.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Communitarian mathematics education: walking into boundaries

    Get PDF
In this article, we outline some of the challenges involved in the construction of a communitarian mathematics education within the realms of the Urban Boundaries Project. The Urban Boundaries Project has been innovative in the way it congregates the critical development of basic needs of three distinct communities with an Ethnomathematics Posture (MESQUITA; RESTIVO; D’AMBROSIO, 2011), where concepts such as critical participation, ethnomathematics, violence, and urban boundaries, are discussed through political philosophy. This posture allows us to share the local history of the empowerment, autonomy, and wisdom of the three communities’ situationality involved in the project, i.e., their knowledge of their political space. The local history is shared through the systematization of some content collected with critical ethnographical registration. To put it in Lacanian terms, we seek to symbolize a set of life-world experiences that have been historically neglected in mathematics education research, as well as in educational sciences more generally. As a result, this paper instigates the exploration of “disturbing” choices in the mathematical education culture

    Get PDF
