A linear optimization based method for data privacy in statistical tabular data

National Statistical Agencies routinely disseminate large amounts of data. Prior to dissemination these data have to be protected to avoid releasing confidential information. Controlled tabular adjustment (CTA) is one of the available methods for this purpose. CTA formulates an optimization problem that looks for the safe table which is closest to the original one. The standard CTA approach results in a mixed integer linear optimization (MILO) problem, which is very challenging for current technology. In this work we present a much less costly variant of CTA that formulates a multiobjective linear optimization (LO) problem, where binary variables are pre-fixed, and the resulting continuous problem is solved by lexicographic optimization. Extensive computational results are reported using both commercial (CPLEX and XPRESS) and open source (Clp) solvers, with either simplex or interior-point methods, on a set of real instances. Most instances were successfully solved with the LO-CTA variant in less than one hour, while many of them are computationally very expensive with the MILO-CTA formulation. Nouvelles exemplaires du timbres amphoriques sur Dressel 20 dans le territoire du Conventus Hispalensis: Villar Tesoro, Azanaque et La Catria

El presente trabajo está dedicado a profundizar entorno a las relaciones económicas y sociales establecidas entre las diversas provincias del Imperio Romano. Con el fin de conocer el rol que jugó la provincia Baetica dentro de la administración romana, y de las políticas económicas aquí desempeñadas, es necesario un mayor conocimiento de la producción alimentaria en la región. Para ello, el hallazgo de los contenedores ánforicos fabricados a lo largo del Guadalquivir y el Genil nos permite profundizar entorno a la producción y exportación de alimentos por todo el Imperio. Una visita de los lugares de Villar Tesoro, Azanaque-Castillejo y La Catria durante el pasado mes de diciembre de 2015 nos permite dar a conocer nuevos materialesCe travail est dédié à l’étude des relations économiques et sociales entre les différentes provinces de l’Empire Romain. Afin de connaître le rôle joué par la province Baetica dans l’administration romaine, et les politiques économiques mises en place, est nécessaire une meilleure compréhension de la production de denrées alimentaires dans la région. Pour ce faire, la découverte de conteneurs amphores fait le long du fleuve Guadalquivir et fleuve Genil, nous permet d’approfondir la production et l’exportation de la nourriture dans tout l’empire. Une visite des sites de Villar Trésor, Azanaque-Castillejo et Le Catria pendant le dernière mois de décembre de 2015, nous permet de montrer des nouveaux matériaux céramiques avec inscriptions. Onze sont des nouvelles inscriptions, neuf des timbres sur amphores type Dressel 20 et deux sont des graphites restants. Un des graffiti est sur une Dressel 20 et l’autre sur une bassin

Una vez más, dentro de la serie Oxford University Press dedicada a los estudios sobre economía romana, se publica un nuevo trabajo resultado de la reunión organizada por la Oxford Roman Economy Project con la ayuda del Wolfson College. El libro lo forman por un total de dieciséis trabajos. Estos se insertan en cuatro grandes capítulos temáticos sobre los que se debatió en el workshop 'Beyond Marginality: Craftsmen, Traders and the Socio-Economic History of Roman Urban Communities' celebrado el pasado 21-23 Julio de 2011 en Oxford, y financiado por la European Science Foundation. Gems in Ancient Rome: Pliny's Vision

Greco-Roman culture classified a great variety of gems. Authors such as Theophrastus, Plutarch and Pliny the Elder dealt with the subject. To now which gems were most highly valued in ancient Rome, it is essential to consult book 37 of Pliny the Elder. Book 37 of Pliny's Natural History is one of the few accounts on precious stones, gems and amber that collects information from various sources of antiquity, which in many cases have survived only thanks to Pliny's transcription. He catalogued the most prestigious gems, and discussed their origin, their exploitation techniques, their properties and their etymology. This corpus collects a total of 240 different variants of gems, of which, in 93 cases, its place of origin is known. In order to know to what extent the words of Pliny reflect the reality of the Roman market, we have analyzed as examples ten catalogs of modern collections of gems from various places and compared them with Pliny's comments. This analysis confirms the fact that the urban Roman elites valued precious stones extracted from the territories beyond the Roman Empire, especially those of the East. The ten catalogues contain more than 4000 different gems and glasses. It compares the information in Pliny's book on gems with ten current catalogs of various museums, adding more than 4000 analyzed copies. Both of these sources similar results and therefore confirms the interest of the Romans for these productions
