Maurer-Cartan Equations and Black Hole Superpotentials in N =8 Supergravity
We retrieve the non-BPS extremal black hole superpotential of N=8, d=4
supergravity by using the Maurer-Cartan equations of the symmetric space
E_7(7)/SU(8). This superpotential was recently obtained with different 3- and
4-dimensional techniques. The present derivation is independent on the
reduction to d=3.Comment: 1+22 page
A Lucky Mistake: The Splenic Glands of Marcello Malpighi
PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW: More than 50% of all gynaecological cancers can be classified as rare tumours (defined as an annual incidence of <6 per 100,000) and such tumours represent an important challenge for clinicians.
RECENT FINDINGS: Rare cancers account for more than one fifth of all new cancer diagnoses, more than any of the single common cancers alone. Reviewing the RARECAREnet database, some of the tumours occur infrequently, whilst others because of their natural history have a high prevalence, and therefore appear to be more common, although their incidence is also rare. Harmonization of medical practice, guidelines and novel trials are needed to identify rare tumours and facilitate the development of new treatments. Ovarian tumours are the focus of this review, but we comment on other rare gynaecological tumours, as the diagnosis and treatment challenges faced are similar.
FUTURE: This requires European collaboration, international partnerships, harmonization of treatment and collaboration to overcome the regulatory barriers to conduct international trials. Whilst randomized trials can be done in many tumour types, there are some for which conducting even single arm studies may be challenging. For these tumours alternative study designs, robust collection of data through national registries and audits could lead to improvements in the treatment of rare tumours. In addition, concentring the care of patients with rare tumours into a limited number of centres will help to build expertise, facilitate trials and improve outcomes
Dualities Near the Horizon
In 4-dimensional supergravity theories, covariant under symplectic
electric-magnetic duality rotations, a significant role is played by the
symplectic matrix M({\phi}), related to the coupling of scalars {\phi} to
vector field-strengths. In particular, this matrix enters the twisted
self-duality condition for 2-form field strengths in the symplectic formulation
of generalized Maxwell equations in the presence of scalar fields. In this
investigation, we compute several properties of this matrix in relation to the
attractor mechanism of extremal (asymptotically flat) black holes. At the
attractor points with no flat directions (as in the N = 2 BPS case), this
matrix enjoys a universal form in terms of the dyonic charge vector Q and the
invariants of the corresponding symplectic representation RQ of the duality
group G, whenever the scalar manifold is a symmetric space with G simple and
non-degenerate of type E7. At attractors with flat directions, M still depends
on flat directions, but not MQ, defining the so-called Freudenthal dual of Q
itself. This allows for a universal expression of the symplectic vector field
strengths in terms of Q, in the near-horizon Bertotti-Robinson black hole
geometry.Comment: 1+31 pages, 1 Table; v2 : completely reorganized (and shortened)

Tecnicismos jurídicos en un código del Fuero Juzgo
This article contains a list of juridical technicalities proceeding from a half
XIIIth century Fuero Juzgo manuscript in old Leonese.
Many therms survive actually, others were substituted by new voices. Their
abundance and exact use seem to us the main features to underline, as well as
their diffusion and linguistic reality in the XIIIth century.
Such kind of linguistic studies in Hispano-romance -about lexical technicalities- are
in our opinion not enough diffused as the interest of the subject would
require
Strategie tematiche e strutturali nello Spill
The use of certain themes in the opera (such as misoginy) and the way they are reinterpreted,
and the very organization of the text, show that the intention of the author is to offer a
detailed exemplum and counter-exemplum. From this perspective, the apparent incongruity
between the condemnation of female wickness and the narration of the story of the Virgin is
removed. Roig offers the reader a spill, in which he reflects an anti-model (perverse, sinful
woman), opposed to the Model (Maria), which constitutes the real Spill. The dichotomy mala
mulier / bona mulier (?bad woman / good woman?) is now re-expressed in violent, scabrous
terms that break the bounds of corporeal baseness, and is reconstructed by overturning the
canons of the pseudo-biographical love genre. With the decline of the courtly ideal of mediaeval
origin, this dualism weakens and the unpleasant side bursts through in a form that is now
secular, urbane, down-to-earth, disenchanted, even attracted to the most sordid aspects of
daily life
Pyrite Analysis of an Ordovician Phosphate Rock Core from Southern Indiana
poster abstractUnderstanding the depositional environments that preserve phosphate-rich rock is becoming progressively more important in light of the increasing scarcity of phosphorus. Phosphorus is the primary constituent in one of the most common types of fertilizer, and it is also used in industries ranging from semiconductor production to flame retardant clothing. Phosphate beds are currently accumulating along select active and passive coastal margins through oceanic upwelling. Upwelling occurs when cold deep phosphorus-rich waters flow to the surface from wind-driven circulation. The nutrient-rich waters increase phytoplankton productivity creating an oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) with available dissolved iron. Southern Indiana is home to a deposit of phosphate rock that formed in a drastically different environment. Throughout much of the Ordovician (488.3-443.7 Mya), Indiana was partially submerged by a shallow (~10m-150m deep) tropical inland sea. The area was situated approximately 20o south of the equator in a position that would be similar to modern-day Brazil, as a member of the ancient landmass called Laurentia. The oxygen concentrations of the inland sea control phosphatization and the materialization of other minerals, including pyrite (FeS2). Pyrite formation is fundamental to geochemical proxies used to determine seawater and sediment traits in ancient environments. It can be formed through a variety of pathways including direct precipitation, solid monosulfide conversion, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) reaction, and iron loss preceding oxidation. The distinct mechanisms driving pyrite formation can be determined through the isotopic signature and the abundance of sulfide released through chromium reducible sulfur (CRS) methods. This study seeks to better understand the ancient water column and pore water characteristics of Ordovician Indiana. We present pyrite concentration isotope data and total phosphorous data to better understand the environmental conditions under which these sediments formed. Identifying these characteristics will add significantly to existing knowledge on phosphate accumulation independent of the oceanic upwelling model.

We analyzed the cases of assimilation produced by the ignition of the consonants -n and -r, at the end of the word, with the prepositions en, con y por (per) with the liquid side l- in articles and pronouns in old lions language. The data come from the linguistic analysis of the Fuero Juzgo, mid-thirteenth century, (escurialense Z. III. 21), from the western area of the province of León. This phenomenon is especially widespread in the western part of León
