Parallel to the widespread of information technology today, the workload and responsibilities of the teachers are becoming very demanding and challenging. Hence, there are reports on the declining of their quality of work and commitment towards their organization that resulted in absenteeism and early retirement. This study aims at identifying the relationship between quality of work life and commitment towards the organization among the secondary school teachers in the Kota Setar district in Kedah Darul Aman. In measuring the level of commitment towards the organization among the teachers, some improvements were made to the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) by Mowday, et. al. (1975) so as to fit the selected respondents. Items on quality of work life were designed based on the eight criteria suggested by Walton (1973). This research also studies the differences in demographic factors such as sex, age and tenure on commitment towards the organization. A pilot study was conducted to test the reliability and validity of the instrument. For the study, the administrators of the respective fifteen secondary schools in the Kota Setar district randomly selected three hundred and forty teachers. The questionnaire used consists of forty-three items, which is then divided into three parts. The statistical analyses used in the study are t-Test, Oneway ANOVA, Pearson Correlation and Multiple Regression. The results of the study indicate that there was a significant relationship between quality of work life and commitment towards the organization. The study also found that the eighth criterion of the independent variable is the most influential factor on commitment towards the organization. The result of the t-Test and One-way ANOVA portrays that the differences in the demographic factors were not significant. The correlation test shows that six out of the eight criteria of quality of work life are positively significant to commitment towards the organization

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of administrators' collective efficacy and emotional intelligence competencies and teachers professional collaboration on teachers' job satisfaction. Survey instruments were distributed to the respondents comprising of administrators (N=444) and teachers (N=1,426) of the Technical Secondary Schools in Malaysia. Four measures were used; Administrators' Collective Efficacy Scale (ACES), Emotional Competency Inventory-Version 2 (ECI-V2), Teacher Professional Collaboration Questionnaire (TPCQ) and Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). Data analysis started with evaluating data normality and psychometric integrity of the instruments using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Several statistical analyses were employed to assess the hypotheses. Analyses include t-tests, bivariate correlation analysis, and stepwise and hierarchical regression analyses. Finally, path analysis was used to support earlier findings on the direct and indirect relationships of all the variables. Since there was significant difference between the administrators and the teachers' perceptions pertaining to the seven variables studied, data were analysed separately. Teachers' data only act as a support to the findings based on administrators' data. It was found that there were significant relationships between all the constructs studied. However, only teachers' professional collaboration, administrators' collective efficacy and emotional intelligence competency for relationship management (social skills) were predictors of teachers' job satisfaction. Administrators' collective efficacy and relationship management partially mediate the relationship between teachers' professional collaboration and teachers' job satisfaction. Several recommendations and implications were drawn from the study

At the heart of software requirements elicitation lies the communication between customer and developer. There are several valuable components of communication such as medium, sender, receiver, and messages, which relates to the input and output from both parties. Most of these messages are delivered through incompletely, inconsistently or inaccurately defined communication medium. This study has been done to look into the communication content of the current communication practices between developer and customer in Malaysia. The results of this study revealed some important notes on the practices of communication content during software requirements elicitation process in Malaysia

The lack of understanding and confusion on the basic rules of plural nouns faced by the pupils has greatly affected their ability to write correct spelling of the plural forms of the nouns. A research was conducted on 4 selected participants from Year 4 B of SK Z who obviously showed difficulties in applying appropriate spelling rules to form correct plural forms of the nouns.Hence, this action research was conducted to develop the pupils’ ability to spell the countable plural forms of the nouns correctly. A plural form chart named ‘Make It Plural’ Chart was used as the intervention to address this issue. Four lessons using the intervention with different focused in spelling rules of the plural nouns (‘-s’, ‘-es’, ‘-ies’ ‘-ves’) were implemented throughout this research in order to assist the pupils in improving their ability to spell the countable plural forms of the nouns correctly. The data for this study was collected through observation, the result of worksheets’ scores and the result of the pre-test and post-test. The results of the findings from three different sources showed that the use of ‘Make It Plural’ (M.I.P) Chart has significantly improved the participants’ ability to spell the countable plural forms of the nouns correctly.Discussion of the findings, reflection and suggestion for further research was highlighted in the last section of this article in order to develop more quality and comprehensive teaching and learning session in the future

    Get PDF
The predominant culture of Sabah consists of a motley of cultures, each of which has been brought in by the different ethnic groups from their indigenous cultures. The total population of Sabah consists of more than thirty different ethnicities and races, and the number of languages and dialects go over eighty. Hence the cultural tourism in Sabah would have varied criteria that can be looked into. The aim of this paper is to use the scoring model in operational research to rank these decision criteria according to highest scores. The preferability of tourist visiting these hot spots is done by ranking their preferability based on a weightage. Highly scored attraction factors would attract more tourists to visit cultural spots in Kota Kinabalu. Therefore, these would help operational managers in the tourism industry to focus on promoting and marketing this sector

Model Selection (MS) is known to produce uncertainty into model-building process. Besides that, the process of MS is complex and time consuming. Therefore, Model Averaging (MA) had been proposed as an alternative to overcome the issues. This research will provide guidelines of obtaining best model by using two modelling approach which are Model Selection (MS) and Model Averaging (MA) and compares the performance of both methods. Corrected Akaike Information Criteria (AICc) and Bayesian Information Criteria (BIC) were applied in the model-building using MS to help determine the best model. In MA process, model selection criteria are needed to compute the weights of each possible models. Two model selection criteria (AICcand BIC) were compared to observe which will produce model with a better performance. For guidelines illustration, data of Upper Gastrointestinal Bleed (UGIB) were explored to identify influential factors which leads to the mortality of patients. At the end of the study, best model using MA shown to have a better performance andAICc is proven to be a better model selection criterion approach in MA. In conclusion, the most significant factors for mortality of UGIB patients were identified to be shock score, comorbidity and rebleed

Architectural designs contribute as one of the main factors that should be considered in minimizing negative impacts in planning and structural development in buildings such as in mosques. In this paper, the ergonomics perspective is revisited which hence focuses on the conditional factors involving organisational, psychological, social and population as a whole. This paper tries to highlight the functional and architectural integration with ecstatic elements in the form of decorative and ornamental outlay as well as incorporating the building structure such as wall, domes and gates. This paper further focuses the mathematical aspects of the architectural designs such as polar equations and the golden ratio. These designs are modelled into mathematical equations of various forms, while the golden ratio in mosque is verified using two techniques namely, the geometric construction and the numerical method. The exemplary designs are taken from the Sabah Bandaraya Mosque in Likas, Kota Kinabalu and the Sarawak State Mosque in Kuching, while the Universiti Malaysia Sabah Mosque is used for the Golden Ratio. Results show that Islamic architectural buildings and designs have long had mathematical concepts and techniques underlying its foundation, hence, a modelling approach is needed to rejuvenate these Islamic designs

The Islamic Financial Institutions (IFIs) in Brunei Darussalam have experienced a significant growth and become new players in the banking industry. The State continues to offer new Islamic innovative banking products and services in order to gain acceptance from the public and increase market shares of the industry. Strategically, the State aims to be the global player in Islamic banking activities and this is evidenced through the mergers of their two large Islamic Financial Institutions namely, the Islamic Brunei Bank Berhad (IBB) and Islamic Development Bank Berhad (IDB) to form Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD). Though the merger has successfully increased BIBD’s total assets, branches and ATMs, BIBD in particular or the Ministry of Finance in general lacks the Islamic Financial Criminology (IFC) guidelines for Islamic Financial Crime prevention on Islamic products and services offered by IFIs in the State. Similarly, in Brunei and Malaysia the power to prevent Islamic financial criminology practices is vested within the Civil Court and not within the Syari’ah jurisdiction. Conflicts arise when the judgment of Civil Court on matters pertaining to Islamic financial criminology are based on conventional practices. Thus, this paper aims to examine the background of Islamic financial criminology crime prevention in the banking system in Brunei Darussalam and suggests improvement to support the development of an Islamic financial system in the State
