A Conceptual UX-aware Model of Requirements

User eXperience (UX) is becoming increasingly important for success of software products. Yet, many companies still face various challenges in their work with UX. Part of these challenges relate to inadequate knowledge and awareness of UX and that current UX models are commonly not practical nor well integrated into existing Software Engineering (SE) models and concepts. Therefore, we present a conceptual UX-aware model of requirements for software development practitioners. This layered model shows the interrelation between UX and functional and quality requirements. The model is developed based on current models of UX and software quality characteristics. Through the model we highlight the main differences between various requirement types in particular essentially subjective and accidentally subjective quality requirements. We also present the result of an initial validation of the model through interviews with 12 practitioners and researchers. Our results show that the model can raise practitioners' knowledge and awareness of UX in particular in relation to requirement and testing activities. Safety-Critical Systems and Agile Development: A Mapping Study

In the last decades, agile methods had a huge impact on how software is developed. In many cases, this has led to significant benefits, such as quality and speed of software deliveries to customers. However, safety-critical systems have widely been dismissed from benefiting from agile methods. Products that include safety critical aspects are therefore faced with a situation in which the development of safety-critical parts can significantly limit the potential speed-up through agile methods, for the full product, but also in the non-safety critical parts. For such products, the ability to develop safety-critical software in an agile way will generate a competitive advantage. In order to enable future research in this important area, we present in this paper a mapping of the current state of practice based on {a mixed method approach}. Starting from a workshop with experts from six large Swedish product development companies we develop a lens for our analysis. The Role of Events in Actor Network Analysis of IT-Based Change

While Actor Network Theory (ANT) has been successfully adopted to study organizational changes enabled by information technology (IT), Walsham suggests that, in such studies, data easily become highly complex and that it can be difficult for the researcher to make sense of data and structure them into a coherent presentation. This paper reviews the role played by events in structuring and presenting successfully published cases of ANT analyses. We identify a gap between the role played by events in the general literature on organizational change and the specific roles that events play in published cases of ANT analyses of IT-based change. We discuss, in consequence, how events can be used to help researchers adopt ANT to study IT-based change

THE ROLE OF CONTEXT IN MANAGING INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES

Contemporary organizations are increasingly dependent on information infrastructures to deliver their services. However, information infrastructures are highly complex and dynamic, which lead to considerable management challenges. This research aims to contribute to our understanding of these challenges through an in-depth investigation of a team responsible for information infrastructure services at a large business and technology service company. The complexity and dynamics faced by the team emphasizes the important role of context in managing its information infrastructure services and underlying technology platform. To investigate the team’s practice we therefore adopt contextualist inquiry in combination with a pluralist approach based on four complementary theoretical lenses; technological frames of references, risk management, control versus drift, and dynamic capabilities. As contributions, this research has the dual goal to improve the teams’ practices while at the same time providing new theoretical insights about the role of context in management of information infrastructure services

Organizational Hindrances to the Retention of Older Healthcare Workers

The Swedish healthcare sector is currently experiencing recruitment difficulties combined with increasing demand for healthcare services. This study accordingly seeks knowledge of the obstacles to and opportunities for retaining older employees in the Swedish healthcare sector. Results of interviews with line managers and human resource (HR) partners indicate that the informants have positive attitudes toward older healthcare workers in general, particularly acknowledging their contributions based on long experience and skill. However, line managers’ high workload, the absence of age-management strategies, and universal HR policies not conducive to older workers’ individual needs are considered obstacles to retention on an organizational level. To retain older healthcare workers and maintain their ability and motivation, the healthcare sector and especially HR strategies need to be more proactive in addressing these issues, and formalized policies are required in order to benefit from the potential labor reserve that older employees constitute

Ectopic Brain Tissue in Laboratory Rats

Ectopic brain tissue was detected in 11 days old rats. The anomaly was found medial and caudal of the scapula on the right chest wall appearing as a glandlike structure. Animals with ectopic brain tissue were found to have a lower relative brainweight indicating a development error in which neuroectodermal cells had been ”pinched off” and displayed early in embryonic development. Several etiological possibilities are discussed, i.e. genetic background, virusinfections, chemicals, toxinsand environmental factors. A correlation between a situation with the parameters of high temperature and low humidity versus an increased frequency of the anomaly seemed possible. As the microbiological status of the animals, food quality and most environmental factors were not known it was stated, however, that the patogenesis of the ectopic brain tissue is still unknown

Child Rights, Classroom and School Management : Change Projects from the International Training Programme Batch 19 - 2013b

Lund University has offered the Sida-financed International Training Programmeon Child Rights, Classroom and School Management since 2003. The programmetargets those in a position from which they can initiate processes ofchange in the education sector in their countries. During the programme all participating teams initiate a change project in their respective countries aiming atthe realization of the intention of the Child Rights Convention in policy as wellas in practice.
