Necro-spaces and Violent Homicides in Mexico

This article focuses on the spatial autocorrelation of homicidal violence and the presence of groups that have the capacity to exercise sovereignty. These actors possess necro-power and operate sometimes within, sometimes outside the framework of the law. They are sometimes in opposition to one another, while at other times they operate in a coordinated fashion. Their presence gives form to what we shall call necro-spaces: places where different actors (hitmen, dealers, the police or the military) spread death and destruction, in indefinite confrontations with no foreseeable victor. The methodology of our analysis of the spatial autocorrelation of homicidal violence at the municipal level in the years 2005, 2010 and 2015 enabled us to connect the spatial relationships among the homicides with descriptions of the groups that build regimes of violence in those spaces

Untreated subclinical hypothyroidism can have multiple effects on the health and quality of life of the patient; therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the presence of subclinical hypothyroidism, thyroid hormone levels, and overweight in patients attending the Blood Care laboratory in Ambato during the period 2023. A non-experimental retrospective study with a quantitative and cross-sectional methodological approach was conducted, with a descriptive and correlational scope. A sample of 50 patients who met the inclusion criteria, consisting of adults with obesity and of legal age, attending the Blood Care laboratory, was selected. Data were collected from the laboratory logs and processed using the Excel statistical program. The results showed a trend towards a slight increase in the proportion of patients with slightly elevated TSH levels in the overweight and obesity type I groups, although no significant differences were found in thyroid hormone levels between patients with and without overweight. The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism was 12%, highlighting the importance of considering this condition in clinical diagnosis and management. Additionally, a predominance of women with overweight or obesity was observed among patients with subclinical hypothyroidism. Therefore, this study provided valuable insight into the relationship between subclinical hypothyroidism, thyroid hormone levels, and overweight in patients, emphasizing the importance of regularly assessing thyroid function in patients with overweight or obesity.

The objective was to evaluate the effect of different doses of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and periods of application on fruit length and width of muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) cv. Edisto 47. Plants were sprayed with IAA and NAA at 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg L-1 each at 7, 14 and 21 days after flowering (DAS). A split split plot design was used with three replications. Main plots were the application period, the sub plots were the IAA and NAA doses and the sub sub plots were IAA and NAA. IAA did not affect on fruit length of muskmelon when it was applied at different doses and periods. NAA decreased fruit length when it was applied at 100, 150 and 200 mg L-1 at 7 DAS. IAA decreased fruitwidth in comparison with NAA when both were applied at 14 DAS. The widest muskmelon fruits were obtained with the application of NAA (50 and 100 mg L-1) and length of fruit is not significantly affected by AIA doses different and times application. The application of 100 mg L-1 NAA, 7 dff decreased the length of fruit.Key words: IAA, foliar application, NAA, muskmelon, growth regulato

The Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement are guiding the world towards inclusivesustainability for all beings on Earth. Colombia is a biodiverse country by nature and, for this reason cannotrefuse to participate actively in environmental, social, and economic commitments, which required prioritiesidentification and executing resilient actions due to climate change and also, the reduction of greenhousegases in its industrial processes. The construction sector has been one of the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, its reactivation is one of the solutions for the economic development in whatever nation. However, several processes and activities that the sector has traditionally developed for years must be reconsidered and, in this moment technological tools exist to improve them. Galactic angular momentum in the IllustrisTNG simulation -- I. Connection to morphology, halo spin, and black hole mass

    Get PDF
We use the TNG100 simulation of the IllustrisTNG project to investigate the stellar specific angular momenta (jj_{\ast}) of \sim12~000 central galaxies at z=0z=0 in a full cosmological context, with stellar masses (MM_{\ast}) ranging from 10910^{9} to 1012M10^{12} \, {\rm M}_{\odot}. We find that the jj_{\ast}--MM_{\ast} relations for early-type and late-type galaxies in IllustrisTNG are in good overall agreement with observations, and that these galaxy types typically `retain' \sim10--20 and \sim50--60 per cent of their host haloes' specific angular momenta, respectively, with some dependence on the methodology used to measure galaxy morphology. We present results for \textit{kinematic} as well as \textit{visual-like} morphological measurements of the simulated galaxies. Next, we explore the scatter in the jj_{\ast}--MM_{\ast} relation with respect to the spin of the dark matter halo and the mass of the supermassive black hole (BH) at the galactic centre. We find that galaxies residing in faster-spinning haloes, as well as those hosting less massive BHs, tend to have a higher specific angular momentum. We also find that, at fixed galaxy or halo mass, halo spin and BH mass are anticorrelated with each other, probably as a consequence of more efficient gas flow toward the galactic centre in slowly rotating systems. Finally, we show that halo spin plays an important role in determining galaxy sizes -- larger discs form at the centres of faster-rotating haloes -- although the trend breaks down for massive galaxies with M1011MM_{\ast} \gtrsim 10^{11} \, {\rm M}_{\odot}, roughly the mass scale at which a galaxy's stellar mass becomes dominated by accreted stars.Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures. ObjectiveTo assess the efficacy and safety of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with BMN 110 (elosulfase alfa) in patients with Morquio A syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis IVA).MethodsPatients with Morquio A aged ≥5 years (N = 176) were randomised (1:1:1) to receive elosulfase alfa 2.0 mg/kg/every other week (qow), elosulfase alfa 2.0 mg/kg/week (weekly) or placebo for 24 weeks in this phase 3, double-blind, randomised study. The primary efficacy measure was 6-min walk test (6MWT) distance. Secondary efficacy measures were 3-min stair climb test (3MSCT) followed by change in urine keratan sulfate (KS). Various exploratory measures included respiratory function tests. Patient safety was also evaluated.ResultsAt week 24, the estimated mean effect on the 6MWT versus placebo was 22.5 m (95 % CI 4.0, 40.9; P = 0.017) for weekly and 0.5 m (95 % CI -17.8, 18.9; P = 0.954) for qow. The estimated mean effect on 3MSCT was 1.1 stairs/min (95 % CI -2.1, 4.4; P = 0.494) for weekly and -0.5 stairs/min (95 % CI -3.7, 2.8; P = 0.778) for qow. Normalised urine KS was reduced at 24 weeks in both regimens. In the weekly dose group, 22.4 % of patients had adverse events leading to an infusion interruption/discontinuation requiring medical intervention (only 1.3 % of all infusions in this group) over 6 months. No adverse events led to permanent treatment discontinuation.ConclusionsElosulfase alfa improved endurance as measured by the 6MWT in the weekly but not qow dose group, did not improve endurance on the 3MSCT, reduced urine KS, and had an acceptable safety profile
