Conflict Between Hizb Ut-Tahrir And Islamic Civil Society In Indonesia:A Countermovement Approach

    Get PDF
In a social movement study, countermovement emerges when certain movement is considered to bring threat to the status quo or the current political and social condition. Social movement seeks for changing the existing situation while the countermovement pursues to keep it. As a result, the conflict between two becomes inevitable, where both will compete to win over the other. The existence of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Indonesia (HTI) for years is responded by some Islamic groups especially Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and its allies, as threat to the Indonesian life due to the idea brought by HTI. It becomes the root of conflict between HTI and other Islamic groups in Indonesia. This article aims to explain the conflict between HTI and other Islamic groups by elaborating the effort of the Islamic groups to counter the HTI narratives and mobilization by using countermovement approach in social movement studies. This article is a case study research and using mainly secondary data to analyze the issue. This article found that Nahdlatul Ulama as the main countermovement played significant role to counter Hizb ut-Tahrir`s religious and political narratives as well as its political mobilization

The purpose of this paper is to explain the nature of the Mahallah Leadership Programme (McLead) as a means to inculcate the leadership values to the student leaders at International Islamic University, Malaysia. The analysis was done based on the progrmme which was conducted at Akademi Pembangunan Belia, Batu Gajah Perak on February 6 to 8, 2015. About 192 Mahallah representative committees from all Gombak Mahallat participated in the programme. However, only 162 participants gave their feedbacks for the programme. Several analyses were conducted based on their feedback to the programme. The results shows that there are three major reasons why the students are interested to be members of MRC; opportunity to conduct programme; ability to polish their leadership skills and lastly to develop their potential as leaders at higher levels. In another analysis the students also expressed their satisfactions with the conduct of the programme. Lastly the analysis also identified the major skills acquired by the students throughout the activities of the programme

This Business Plan is specifically designed on the purpose of obtaining a loan for developing a new venture in our area. To support our proposal, we had to do many researches regarding what we really want to implement on. In this case, we are to build on a project of electrical device and innovation. We selling a wireless switch which can replace any manual switch on the wall to remote switch (wireless). This Business Plan do contain lots of information on our entire plan that are the administrative plan, marketing plan, operational plan as well as the financial plan. It also consists wholly of data and information that has been collected and then analyzed with the proposed project in mind. Designing a Business Plan does bring hopes that we can actually get working on this project by receiving the source of capital that we are eager for. We had really stated on all necessities in the Business Plan just to have the attention of our evaluators. We do have the willingness to personally present or furnish any additional materials to facilitate better understanding of the proposed project

Current dietetic practices in the management of gestational diabetes mellitus: a survey of Malaysian dietitians

The role of the dietitian in the management of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is highly recognised. However, consensuses on dietetic approaches for the management of GDM in Malaysia are scarce. This study aimed to examine the current dietetic practices in the management of GDM and to compare nutrient recommendations provided by dietitians to those of several established international guidelines. A survey was conducted among dietitians who were working in government affiliated hospitals across Malaysia. Of 148 questionnaires posted to dietitians, a total of 101 were returned representing an overall response rate of 68%. The majority of the dietitians (80%) reported that they see women with GDM in their daily practices with more than half (53%) having counselled 5 to 9 women per day during the previous 3 months. Flexible carbohydrate exchanges (82%) was the most common recommendation on carbohydrate intake followed by advice regarding small frequent meals spread over the day (62%) and portion control by using the plate method (54%). Only 11% dietitians incorporated the use of the glycaemic index as a measure of carbohydrate intake into their intervention. While recommendations regarding protein intake were consistent with established guidelines, the amount of carbohydrate recommended by the dietitians was higher than that in established guidelines. Although consistency was seen in key components of nutrition intervention, there were differences in the delivery of nutrient recommendations particularly in regard to dietary carbohydrate intake indicating a need for consensus on dietetic practice guidelines for the management of GDM

Simulation of the ground heat exchanger under malaysian environment based on different thermal conductivity of soil and pipe materials

Energy is a major global issue that is essential to the advancement of technology and humanity. Renewable energy is becoming increasingly important as primary energy consumption rises year after year. Renewable energy from geothermal sources, namely ground heat exchangers (GHE), has a lot of potential for use in building applications. Over the past few decades, extensive research has been conducted and GHE technology is well known. The main idea behind GHE is to use the ground as an endless thermal reservoir for fluid medium cooling and heating. Air is used as a fluid medium of work in the GHE system. The air cools in the summer and heats in the winter due to the temperature differential between the air and the ground. In this study, a simulation was conducted to examine the effects of pipe materials and soil thermal conductivity on the performance of the GHE. According to the findings of the study, the materials of the pipe does not have a significant impact on the overall performance of the GHE. As a result, low-cost pipe materials with low thermal conductivity can be used in GHE configurations. The study also showed that the thermal conductivity of soil should be between 1.5 and 10W/m.K for optimal ground heat exchanger performance. In addition, the length of the pipe was reduced from 25 to 14m, thereby decreasing the land area

A review on factors to be incorporated in water quality study

    Get PDF
Water quality issues had been the main concern in worldwide as water resource keeps being polluted. River acts as the main source of drinking water, habitat for aquatic life, agriculture and industry. Poor in water quality led to the increase n water treatment expenses, water scarcity and affect health. River pollution is caused by industrial discharge, sewage and wastewater, chemical fertilizers and pesticides and mining activities. This paper aims to review and comments on factors to be incorporated in water quality study. Water quality index and pollutants are found to be the critical factors. USA, Canada, Iraq, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia used different parameters in calculating WQI. The parameters being considered in the WQI are then classified the river according to their classes and usage. Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia has highlighted three main pollutants in water quality study which are Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Ammoniacal Nitrogen (NH3 N) and Suspended Solid (SS) due to their great influence on WQI calculation. However, standard treated water quality in Malaysia is still based on Environmental Quality Act, 1974 which is nearly 50 years ago. Emerging pollutants which are mainly organic compounds present as pharmaceuticals and personal care products are found in water resources nowadays and the treatment should be improvised along time. Some modification of class on usage of water as irrigation should be considered and the relevant of considering two oxygen demands in calculating WQI (BOD and COD)

This study found that higher level of education towards academic programmes in promoting the learning of values accounts for higher level of employability. It was also found that the satisfactory level on the effort to promote the learning of positive values accounts for the level of satisfaction towards academic programmes. The two findings show the significant role of learnt values in predicting graduates' employability and their satisfactory level with the academic programme. The study was based on the cohort of graduates from IIUM's 21st convocation ceremony
